Casual dating vs Committed Relationship?

Before you go on a holiday dating spree, perhaps it is worthwhile to figure out what your short-term and long-term goals are. When you approach your dating life, having some sense of what you truly want is a good way to get the results that you want. I know what, you’re saying..that’s a no-brainer, Diva! Well, you would be surprised at the number of single people walking around with nary a clue of what they want.

Generally, you meet people who either want to keep things casual or those who want to ultimately move towards a committed relationship. The casual dating folks will say things like, “I just want to kick-it with somebody cool, and see where things go” Or one of my favorites: “I like just going with the flow.” Keep in mind, these are the same people that will try to have sex with no strings attached.

People who want committed relationships are fine with taking things slow. They feel comfortable with the idea of making room in their lives for somebody special. They don’t stress about giving up freedom or allowing someone to them for who they are.

I believe that casual dating has it’s place and those who want it should clearly state that intention upfront. There is nothing wrong with casual dating if that is what you want. The trick is figuring out when you should be casually dating people and when you are ready to build a relationship with someone.

How do you know when to keep it light, fun and easy with casual dating? When do you know that it is time to take it to another level?

What do you do when you are ready to leave casual and go committed? If the person/people you are seeing don’t want the same thing, what do you do?

Casual dating,Diva,is a way to get your Lay On,so that you don’t go on full blown famine. Insisting on committed relationships maybe impractical, especially when the right men are few or most don’t want to go there.
So what a woman To Do to keep the Long Term Intentions On whilst also being cognizant of the short term Lay needs?

Casual Dating!!

It is better to be true to yourself ladies than permanently carry a frown. Coz truf be told,if you ain’t get laid, your brow will tell. And any little thing a man does,a small to minor transgression by a man will invite a monster tongue lashing!

That’s when you know, here madam has a serious case of ABW occasioned by cobwetaitis!
High blood pressure will kill you ladies! No joke. Tata Tata Tata dead! (that’s high old pressure for u)

All because you want to keep the y unnumbered as if the hymen is still stella and intact. Why lie to urself and self molest?

Hello blog,

I’m new here. I was following this blog all last week. Am I allowed to jump in? H

ello Exiled, you are one funny man. lol Will I have to retype my name each time? I noticed sometimes your name is all capitalized then sometimes not. I wondered if I’d to key in everytime I want to make comments?

I am engaged and the holidays are always a great time for my soon to be family. My fiance and I try to equally divide our time.

I’m getting the hang of this! It seems I won’t have to re-enter my name each time. I guess the site retains my name.

Good Morning, bloggies!

Casual Dating vs Committed Relationship? (in other words Hooking Up vs Serious Dating)

I think that question speaks for itself. If I want to hook up and you want to be committed, incompatible. Same with the other way. People must be on the same page about what they want.

And contrary to popular belief, hooking up does not lead to long term relationships.

Good morning, Cherry! Welcome!

For me, ALL dating is casual until I get to know the person! Casual dating doesn’t always lead to sex. If someone tells me they are looking for a serious relationship, then I’m not the one, If you would like to get to know each other and see where it goes. I’m the one.

S/H – That’s how I’m thinking. I’m not used to this dating, but I want to keep it casual until I know whether or not we should move forward. You don’t know until you get to know each other well, right?

So…the Young One and I hung out Friday night. I took him to a friend’s housewarming party. He had several beers. On the way back to take him to his car, he asked me what we are. I said that we are just dating and seeing what happens. A little bit later, he asked me what I want from him. I told him that I didn’t know yet…I want to keep hanging out and get to know each other better. I like him, but not quite sure about him yet. Taking it easy and just seeing what happens…

Welcome Cherry. Please, do not tell Ex he’s funny. That’s a compliment giving him permission to come in for the kill (lol).

Casual dating is where one starts out until time leads both to think they may want to continue down the path toward a committed relationship. You have to start out casually before you even have the notion that this person is worth an emotional investment. BUT, with casual dating, more than likely no chance for entwining our bodies together. “Casual” is just that, having sex requires that we have moved out of that dating bracket. My mind and intuition, along with your actions, will tell me that. Mere words are a dime a dozen!

Morning All!!

Exiled – Man, what was with that wack to me late Friday about lawyers??? Heck, the law students were not the only ones that thought they were “all that” in college, the dumb-azz athletes, the pre-meds, you name it! Just cause I mentioned hubs at times puts his lawyer hat on and shows me a different way to look at things, we don’t dumb it down to each other & the kids, somehow we think we’re better than everyone?? Would you have felt better if I said hubs used to be a garbage collector so he hates seeing a full trash can in the house?? Man, get outta here!!LOL!!!

On topic – My only contribution to this is I wish more would be honest with themselves when confronted with the casual versus committed decision. Meaning, if someone tells you upfront what they want and it’s different from what you want, don’t just go along with it hoping that person will change their mind. Nip it in the bud before you catch feelings and get them hurt down the line.

We’ve only hung out 3 times and out of those times, we only were alone once. He did warn me that he gets attached quickly…it kind of scares me. I am very hesitant because he does seem to like me a little too much too soon. I’m not used to that. When we were kissing goodbye Fri night, he asked if I wanted to go to his place, but I was tired and I said no. He said ok and then joked that he’s not a very good salesman because he’s not pushy enough. I looked him in the eye and said that with me, I’d prefer him to not be pushy…

Bluz~ IMO there is a certain amount of info you should know about someone before you can call yourself “in a relationship”. Basic info, like:

When is your birthday?
What’s your middle name?
Where were you born/did you grow up?
Are your parents in the area?
How many siblings do you have?
Did you go to college and where?
What are your goals/aspirations and what are you doing to make them a reality?
How many previous relationships have you been in? (Coupled with have you ever been married?)
Do you have kids?

I am always amazed at the basic information people DON’T know about someone they are dating/sleeping with. Don’t make that mistake!

It’s all a new experience for me. My mom asked me if I wanted to invite him to Thanksgiving, but I decided that I’m not ready for all of that. At this point, I don’t know if I want to have a relationship with him. Time will tell. I’m not going to stress myself about it. “How do you know when to keep it light, fun and easy with casual dating? ”

It’s important to be honest so the other person will know what your casual dating expectations are. For example if you are just looking for a travel partner or someone who can fix things around the house(Handy Man)let the other person know what you are looking for. I think people respect honesty whether you are casual dating or not.

Hell, you need to challenge yourself to be with someone who isn’t walking over you and treating you like an insignificant doormat. That’s what you’re used to. On topic: I tend to think most relationships started with “let’s see where things can go”…at least for me, historically that’s what it’s been. Yes, there’s the feel of casual only because we don’t know one another but I’m one not into spinning wheels just for the sake of. I’ve never jumped in all deep, day one. By the same token, I ask that if you’re in it for just “kicking” it, to let me know. I don’t EVER feel like I want to waste my your time and more importantly, mine. But, whatever floats your boat is what every individual should do. Some folks are cool just kicking it and have found that they really like the person. As with anything and as we’ve all said before, just have the talk and make certain there’s a crystal understanding of both parties intents. IMO, that’s the component that makes a world of difference…..being forthcoming in your intentions.

At 29, he is an adult, never mind he dont have a job right now, which is not unusual in this economy. However, u describe him..or it domes accross to me, when u describe him that he is rather..kinda..immmature…ijs

Now to be fair, u sound a tad immature urself for a 33 year old chic..but i give u a slight pass given u have indicated(candidly i must say and unusually so), ur medical condition.

At 33..most chics are waaay more mature than dudes at same age..thats my experience at least..
I dont think a young dude will steady u..rather, a more mature dude could handle u better and even give u some steady hand to rely on, if he is serious about u….

The problem, given again ur situation, is how do u spot a sincere dude versus a dude coming in with red shot eyes, ready for the kill..but intending to let u lie and lick ur wounds after he gooten the guuud stuff…thats the challenge i see…

But i wld suggest u upgradeage wise…..and just..date date date date without getting sucked in..

Tall order Bluzz, given ur cootie needs a tap on the regular….

But u know,(ask the blog chics for confirmation, they know) at 33, most single chics have have one good BOB on standby that does a damn heck of job pretty “well”…..Under the circumstances ofcourse!

He does have a job…granted, it’s not one that he likes or seems to be great at, but he’s going to stick it out as long as he can and see what happens with it.

As far as dating older…I typically do date older men and they seem to be much more immature. I’ve always liked older men.

To be honest, I’m very mature in many ways…just not so much when it comes to men. That comes from things that have happened to me in the past, but like I’ve said before, I’m working on it all.

Ex-Slow down Cowboy…I mentioned that I would be going last week, and I am giving an entertainment report, close your eyes for sec if you don’t like, Got Dayum FUN POLICE!!

As I was saying before being harrassed by Exiled:
Here is the Skinny:

The Happy Hour begins at 6PM, they have about 6 drinks specials at $5 along with a complimentary buffet, for your musical pleasure, its a neo-soul/r&b mix at a conversational level until about 8ish/8:30pm, which is the time that the live performance begins with an ecletic mix soul/hip-hop and the venue begins to fill dramatically. At the end of the performance, a DJ takes over until closing.

The Crowd is a Professional/Afterwork crowd, I give the age range from 25-50, there is some butt shaking, but since when was butt shaking not part of a good night out. The place does not have a traditional dance floor, so its really just good people and good times, you can make it a meet market, dance a bit, or just watch…If you are not into the full tilt club experience, you always have the option to leave when the DJ gets going, and you didn’t pay for it….I had a blast in the joint!!

This week: El Debarge is the live entertainment.

Nah J-5 ain’t got nuthin on DeBarge. On their episode of Unsung Baby Face was saying that you didn’t mess with them…ANY of them cause they were hood. He said when they would all tour together NObody messed with them b/c they knew what time it was.

That may be true, SassyMe. The level of being troubled probably cannot be weighed. Can only look at both families. Most of the Debarge clan is still struggling, MJ is gone, Tito probably the only sane one, Janet, pretty cool, LaTonya obsessed with her looks and a small framed body, Jermanine’s brain stopped growing and taking in info due to all the tar in his hair just to name a few. Dysfunction is dysfunction.

Comon – I got the recipe for that soup from an old Southern Living Annual cookbook of my moms, dating back to 89/90. It is packed up in storage when I moved last year and I don’t feel like digging going to dig for it. So I will be going off of memory.

After you soak the beans to soften, you cook them in a chicken broth with chopped onion, a bay leaf, thyme, celery, pepper and some dry sherry. You take some of the beans out and puree them and then add them back to the soup to thicken. You then add chopped smoked turkey or ham and that’s it. Some people top it with sour cream or add chopped chiles. I put a little rice in the bottom of the bowl when I serve it sometimes.

True…ain’t it sad. I was watching another show similar to Unsung about Marvin Gaye. Wow I had no clue. His relationship with his father was very strained and when he became the primary bread winner that really had a bad effect on Marvin,Sr. Marvin was very conflicted between his religion and secular music. That house wasn’t a happy house according to his sister Nona.

I knew that they had a fight the day he shot him but the Nona described it, Marvin kicked his dad’s butt for hitting their mom. Dude said he shot to kill because he was afraid and when he was asked if he loved his son, Marvin, Sr. said, “Well I didn’t hate the guy”..

I’ll tell yall what i’ve heard in my family. My granny is one of 12 kids (she’s a twin) Anyway, I heard that the mom was probably cheating or something or found out the dad was cheating (details fuzzy). So long story short, the mom turned the son against the father and the son ended up stabbing his father and killing him. Now my granny was born in 1938 so not sure which brother did this or exactly when it happened but it was a long ass time ago.

The only dysfunction I can think of is Granddaddy had a second family back in the 30’s or 40’s.

My sister is a pathological liar who desperately needs attention so much that she faked a pregnancy, we gave baby shower, only for her to tell us later on that the baby was but it died a couple of hours later and his organs were donated. She had some mental issues, but never knew what. I also have a cousin who was born a woman, lived many years as a man (how I grew up knowing her), then when I was about 10 or so, I was informed of all of this and she went back to being a woman! There are more stories…I don’t have the time to write them all out!

Comon ~ this isn’t the first baby alarm she has cried. Even sitting here at my desk like I am now, I knew she was lying the day she told me she lost the baby. First, she was pregnant too long. Secondly, hearing her tell me what happened had me taking notes. From the park she was walking through when she went into labor, to the name of the hospital, to the ambulance being called, to sex of the child, her length of stay in the hopital, the whole nine….none of it added up. Yes ma’am, I called the hospital and asked how far they are from this particular park, which ambulance service would be used, any deliveries that day, any deliveries of a boy child that day, my sisters name and a few alias, baby organs being harvested for another infant, etc. Everything she told me, I investigated. Nothing panned out in her favor. NOTHING!

Months later, I confronted her, but there was always something medically wrong with her. I finally gave up, because I knew the truth with every fiber of my being. I can “possibly” understand getting some details wrong, but all of them. Mama says my sister should have known I would put on my investigative hat. I was pissed, to say the least!!

Comon- Actually this is the first time in about 25 years that I am not having a big Thanksgiving. Canceled plans to go to SC, so I’m staying home & cooking a small meal for 3. Started to go completely hog wild & go out to eat but I could hear the gasps in my head. My family & friends have always called me Betty-Martha (Betty Crocker, Martha Stewart).

I came yesterday and a stray cat in my subdivision decided to make yard it’s new home. It came up and started crying at me. I was wondering if anyone knows anybody in the market for an adult cat. I’m not sure if it is male or female.

Dani~ You’re a day late with that one. My daughter just got an “early present from Santa” and we are now the owners of Kobe the Wonder Cat. (Can’t you read the joy in my words?!?)

MsAtl~ Girl, go ahead out and eat! We went to the 1818 Club last year for Thanksgiving and it was awesome! My family stopped doing the home thing about 3 years ago (No one wanted to do all the cleanup) This year we are with the hubs fam so I have to make mac & cheese but we’re going to her house.

Bluz- I have never owned a cat before. I already have an 11 year old cocker spaniel. I told my mom I will buy some food and feed him/her to I find a home. I have a coworker who has 2 cats and just had to put one down. She is in Europe but when she gets back I’m hoping she will say yes.

Comon- It got so bad that I bought my son a birthday cake one year & he was not pleased! I had always made their cakes. I bought the ex a birthday cake one year & he refused to eat it. This is my baby’s last Thanksgiving at home; college in January, so I figured I would make at least a small meal. I’m thinking a roasted chicken, ox tails, mac & cheese, greens, sweet potatoes & store bought desserts.

MsA~ Where do you buy your oxtails? If you are ever in the Gwinnett area, I would highly recommend the Gwinett Internation Farmers Market. They have one of the best selections at the lowest prices. I found them about a year ago (when the price of oxtails sky rocketed!) and I have been going there ever since.

MsAtl

November 21st, 2012
1:45 pm

Uh-oh Slim. Dani has been sprung from work & I am out in 20 minutes.
I used to go Black Friday shopping. We would leave the kids at home with the men and we would go out around 4 am. By that time, we had already scouted the ads and knew what we were buying and where we were going. We stayed away from the malls. Always worked out well. I haven’t gone in a few years since it has gotten out of control. I think the clincher for me was seeing two grown women fighting over a Care Bear and a $5 mixer. Not to mention, how many tvs could one possibly need?
The major thing I need this year is a laptop for my son who is headed to college in January, but I can probably find one online.

SlimNu: Life always happens

November 21st, 2012

MsAtl – So basically i’ll be in here talking to myself huh? You can probably find some good online deals too…This is the season of the sales so Ill keep my fingers crossed for you. What school is your son going to?
