I was having a nice quiet dinner alone recently when I happened to witness an awkward scene happening at the table next to mine. There was a lady celebrating her promotion at work while her man was sitting there practically pouting about her new salary.
Apparently, she had joined the six-figure club, which displeased him because he was not already in it. I didn’t even KNOW this woman and I wanted to tell her to RUN from that guy. What kind of man gets visibly upset when the woman he supposedly loves succeeds? Like, who does that??
Putting my hypercritical judgment aside, I have to wonder why Ms. Six-Figure was disclosing her exact salary to a guy she was only dating? Do you ever tell people you are dating how much you make?
I know some people prefer that men have the “power” in a relationship, but does it matter if a woman makes more money than her man? Does that change the dynamic of the relationship? Should it change the dynamic?
Happy Friday!

If it was the man celebrating his new 6 figure salary, would there be these many comments about it being inappropriate? Men celebrate their successes all the time. Women should be able to do so without anyone pouting or criticizing. We don’t know how long they had been dating – it could be two months or 10 years. We don’t know enough to draw judgment.

Absolutely never, ever reveal this sort of information to anyone!!!!! No one outside of your spouse has the right to know this.
Additionally, this sort of info paints a mighty big target on your back … saying come use me now!

Me personally I could care less because you have to be comfortable with yourself and self confidence in making the same income. I would not share that information until I knew we are totally committed in a relationship. However, most men would have a problem with that and just means you need to step your game up.

She was evidently expecting him to pay for the dinner. Women want equal opportunities, but won’t pay equally on dates with men.
I would have probably been upset and annoyed at her bragging about her great finances at the “I’m richer than you are!” supper when she won’t share the bill, too.

Whether a woman I am dating or married to makes more than me doesn’t matter. I’m still the man regardless. If we’re dating god for her. If we’re married good for US. People forget income goes up and down. Tables can turn and life can turn on a dime and she loses her job and takes a cut and he’s making more. It’s not a contest or fight with whom you’re in love of life with. It’s two people working together to make it period.

Honestly…there are just some men that do not like their woman making more money than him. I agree with the person who said that there are men who would lie and say they have no problem with it but truthfully they are burning up inside. For the people that says she doesn’t know the woman’s personality doesn’t mean you know her either.
could be insecure

Am very fortunate to have parents whose highest priority in marraige is to respect each other. Kinda spoiled me..am too fussy I guess.
Have one particular person/relationship in mind here. Mutual attraction me being male, her a six-figure gal for sure. Me, I work with my hands. Modest income. Stll we have great chemistry….except for her disrespect for men, probably resulting from fam background or divorce. She’s the complete package, but I the skeptic am to accept her like she is and not try ot change her. Couldn’t live with the demeaning and just know that my low salary would ammo for arguments she must win.
Ok, may be not understanding what love is…a complete acceptance without expectations for the other to change. I should be the one to change my expectations…got it. However, our insecurities intertwine and didn’t want to pay such a high emotional price and time investment to reach peace. Sometimes it really is apparent that money can be the root of all sorts of evil, one being having the upper hand on the purse strings and used as a weapon to mask over personal insecurities and an unwillingness to see the other as an equal.
Just my two cents worth from my little place in the universe.

According to black enterprise magazine the average net worth of a black woman is…..$100. Some may make it but not saving or investing. Mall purchases and large car notes aren’t investments,
