Dating: Other people’s opinion
A lot of us are taking home dates for the holidays..some for the first time. You may want to prepare yourself (and your date!) for the onslaught of opinions from parents, distant relatives, and/or close friends.
They may have opinions about the way your date is dressed, their manners, or even the way they treat you when everyone is around. When you are surrounded by people that love you, they tend to be a bit opinionated, a tad judgmental about the people that you date. The key is how you handle all those well-intentioned comments and opinions.
What is the best way to handle a situation where your family is putting your date through the wringer? Do you abandon them and let them fend for themselves? Do you run interference and serve as a buffer to protect them from awkward conversations?
Have you ever taken a date home for the holidays and it turned into a disaster?
Would you break up with someone if they didn’t fare well with the “meet the family” introductions?

My bday is the 26th! I hate when it falls on Thanksgiving. I was bummed cause my 30th was on T-giving day. Hard to do anything special. Luckily, this year, my friends did it right early…

on the day I’m leaving work early and kids and I are doing the Japanese Hibachi thing for dinner. They love those places and well I like them too. That following weekend I am going San Francisco.

dani – you are one of those month-long celebrators? I have a cousin whose bday is next week (20th). I talked to her the other day and she was telling me about having gone out for her bday. Disco, I was messing with my DIL last week, because when they left Hawaii he said he was tired of the threat of hurricanes, and earthquakes (they never had one) only to move to NJ, (they’ve had 2 hurricanes and one earthquake in a little over a year) (LOL)

We (My SIL’s and I) used to do the month long b-day celebration. (All of our birthdays are in the same week. June 20th, 23rd, 26th and 28th) But nowadays, I’m doing good to go out and tie one on for ONE night, let alone 30 nights!

comon, i’ll be in panama catching up with friends and fam & showing s/o my childhood stomping grounds. it’s also my mama’s b-day, so we’ll spend some much-needed mother/daughter time.
my mum is 79 this year!
disco, i am now in week 3 of living alone (for the first time EVER) and have discovered the joy of not having to close doors. bedroom & bathroom doors can stay wide open during any “activity” without a care in the world.

Disco- Yes and my oldest daughters is starting to be the same way. Using my line but it is my birthday month! Last year I had friends come to town and we went on the Sat before Thanksgiving. Then I went to my parents for the holiday and had them making gumbo/seafood boil for me and the same group of friends. We are all from same place. Then the next week it was my Bday.

I am going to Charleston to his family house for Thanksgiving~ it will be interesting. Mama told me to stay in my lane and talk less and listen and observe……I will listen to her too and enjoy cordially as well~ This is my 1st holiday with a mate’s family since my marriage and college. #interesting #chuckle

brat – yep. but the number one joy of living alone (to me anyway) is knowing stuff will be where you left it. knowing if you had something good in the fridge it will still be there when you get home. ooooh it would burn me up to have my mouth all set for something only to find the offspring beat me to it. I definitely don’t mind living alone (most of the time). lol.

brat – the one thing it took me a while to get used to when living alone was that the in-house maid service was gone. lol. there were a time or two I came home and my breakfast dishes or whatever were still unwashed. I was kind of perturbed because if the offspring were still home he would have handled that. oh well. guess it’s a small price to pay.

Disco, for me it was having to cut the grass but as you say, oh well, and the #1 joy of living alone (don’t want to get ex started) is being able to do it anywhere in the house and get loud as you want too (LOL)

Dani – I used to celebrate my birthday for a whole month, but the past three years have been bad. That is why my friends wanted to do a big party for me. I just happened that the 9th was the best date for the venue and the band. We decided that I’ll just have to keep celebrating! I’m going to Charleston for the weekend after Turkey Day…that will be my big hurrah for myself.

dani – well come back on a really slow day and hook a sister up. shoot, ain’t really much popping off right now. whatcha using? generally I mix up my own concoctions primarily using shea butter and coconut oil and whatever I might have on hand. all summer I stopped using any products at all with the exception of a spray bottle with water and conditioner. now that winter’s here I’m going to have to get with a program because my hair is getting dryer.
CC – hush. all I said was I don’t recall getting a vest. maybe leggs was out and the substitute vest dispenser forgot me. lol. still, I guess it matters not this late in the game.
