If someone could find a way to purchase a dating do over, I know a lot of people who would want it. We try to bring our A game, especially on first dates. Sometimes anxiety kicks in and we leave a less then stellar impression.
One of our readers went out with a guy from church this weekend. While they were waiting for valet, her ex-boyfriend approached her and basically embarrassed her. He made a comment about her temper and alluded to her history of property destruction.
In her defense *ahem*, this was a guy she dated in college. She told her date she is not the same girl and tried to downplay it, but she was pretty embarrassed. Should she try to explain the full story to her date or drop it and let it go? Maybe he can see for himself that she is a mature woman now?
Have you ever been embarrassed on a date? How did you handle it?
What would you do if you ran into one of your exes while you were out with someone else? Speaking of, Atlanta is WAY too small sometimes, no?

disco – I recall when I was in high school, my mom got remarried and I didn’t too much care for the dude. Our family had always participated in Halloween and the dressing up deal. This particular year, my sister wanted to be a witch. He told her she could not be a witch. I don’t know what happened inside me but I basically stood up and told her she could be whatever she wanted to be as we always had. Long story short, we ended up getting into it. Started out in the kitchen and somehow ended up in the living room on the floor.

slim – “we” as in you and the new stepdad? if so, that’s deep. you were squabbling for real. lol. it’s actually kind of funny. didn’t like him to begin with. negative feelings were probably just being buried deeper and deeper but you had to draw the line at a Halloween costume being banned.
CC – dang. not the red ranger. are the power rangers even still on tv? how does she even know about them? my niece wanted a tea set last year but hasn’t asked for anything yet for this year. my nephew is in juvie. guess he just wants to go home for Christmas. lol.

disco – Yeah, I hadn’t realized it until the beau pointed it out to me but I guess I have a history of being protective of my sister and mother. That was the same stepdad that at one point, ended up pointing a loaded .44 revolver at my head when I busted in his room for acting crazy. Imagine my little ole self telling some crazy arse dude to, “Go ahead and shoot me if that’s going to make you feel like a man!” I would’ve been blown into smithereens

disco~ Gurl, yes, the Rangers are still on tv. They come on NickToons. Damn cartoon stations! And, apparently, they are having quite the revival because she wanted to be the Gold Ranger, but the costumes were sold out, so I had to sell her on the Red Ranger. Dude, that’s a boy that let’s me put him in dresses occasionally…

Not sure if you guys are still on topic, but I don’t think she needs to go into detail at all. Apparently, she has grown and her ex hasn’t. No need for any of us to go into detail about what we did yesteryear unless it’s information for medical reasons. Many did dumb stuff, it’s almost a rite of passage into adulthood.
I see it’s a slow day here. Let me go an read to catch up.

kimmie – Yeah they have been divorced for quite some time now.
Mrs SC – What did you and stepdad get into it about?
CC – Heyal naw, i’m not friends with him at all….I recall for my grandmother’s 70 bday party, he was there. He tried to act like nothing ever happened between us, wanting to dance with me and stuff. It was so funny seeing how everyone was sitting back waiting to see if anything would pop off. I played it cool though. I didn’t want to distract from the reason we were all there. But the mere touch or sight of him disgust me.

Hello ladies. Hope you all are doing well. I see you Mrs. Sexy Cool. Congrats. How’s life? Still running? I’ve done a few 5k’s and 10k this year. Looking to do two more 10k’s before the year is out, a 15k in January, and a half marathon in March. Pray for my knees. lol

I never had a stepdad; my parents been married 45 years and going strong. I imagine that it has to be awful difficult to blend a family from the kids perspective. It is hard enough from an adult perspective!

I wouldn’t say that we are friends. I still refer to him as my mother’s husband. We got into because he and my mother had been arguing and she went into their bedroom. When she tried to close the door, he blocked it and it snapped back and hit my mom. When I got home that evening, my mom had a big goose egg on her forehead. I asked what happened and when the first words out of her mouth was her husband’s name, I basically lost it.
Thanks, DreamsMat. Life is grand! Yeah…still running. I’ve actually run fewer races this year. A half mary in New Orleans in March, the PRR and the FireFly night run a few weeks back. I’m running on a marathon relay team on Sunday. After that, I may do one or two more races this year and be done.
Good luck on that half. I slacked on my training and hit the wall at mile 9 in the French Quarter. (lol) But…I finished.

Hey there, Comon.
SlimNu ~ I agree with those that say something medically must be going on, as well as a disconnect emotionally. I think disco or Comon said perhaps your coworker should back track to when she first noticed things were going awry sexually and take it from there to see if there are any commonalities that made his sex drive drop to zilch.
On the topic of being embarrassed, never happened to me, but then again, I didn’t date alot.
I remember being in the mall with my then husband and his ex wife was walking toward us. I never met her, but he quickly darted in a store next to us. I didn’t know why he ran so fast. I followed and asked WTH was going on. He started fidgeting. I was like, dude, what’s up? He finally told me his ex was walking by and he didn’t want her to see him because he owed money on a car loan they had together. First time I’m hearing of this loan. I told him to stop being a punk hiding out in a store (I sho did) and let’s finish our shopping. I was pissed that he ran like an 8-yr old from a fight in the school yard. She never saw him, rather I never saw her. A few weeks later a call comes to the house from the car place asking to speak to him and if I would make payments on his behalf. I told the person on the other end if his mother raised a fool and hung up. I never heard from the car place again. To this day I don’t know what happened with that car loan.

I applaude the guy for embarrassing the woman, If the date in question has shady traits I would like to know them. When I see ex’s that have cheated on me, I think that is need to know imformation for the current guy she maybe seeing, I mean who wants to date a cheater or someone who has cheated. Honestly there is no good reason to cheat, period. Women I have dated have “tried” to embarrass me for being a virgin, but I don’t care, I kind of have a chip on my shoulder for being so anyway (I think that’s why some people don’t like me). But Seriously if a person male or female has bad traits, it IS a need to know. I understand people can change but it is good to know those things just so you know what you’re dealing with. If I know about it now, it won’t be such a big deal later, because finding out later can be a very big deal depending on what a person hides.

Rich – that’s so lame. It makes no allowance for any maturity or growth that a person may have done unbeknowst to you.
Besides, if you have your own vetting process in place and trust your own instincts, well………shadiness can’t hide for long.

hi rich. thanks for showing up. a little something else to talk about for a minute. just because certain information is something that someone may need to know doesn’t necessarily mean it’s something that is the ex’s place to share. frankly if I’m dating a new guy and his ex-woman feels compelled to tell me he’s a cheater I’ll see it as making more of an impression about her and her inability to get on with her life. she doesn’t know me and she likely isn’t doing it to benefit me. maybe in her mind she’s blocking and if she blocks everyone he’ll have to come back to her.
leggs – if someone had stolen your books there is a good chance the thief would have been quite angry. they may have come back and left a sternly written note on your door.
