What makes a man attractive?

I am always astounded by the totally ridiculous reasons women dump guys. I’ve heard things like, “He breathed too loudly” or “He owned too many dogs.” You just can’t predict the random things that turn women off. We are complex creatures, what can I say!

While we may vary on what makes a man unattractive, most women can agree on what makes a man attractive and irresistible. When a man has “that thing” or that sex appeal oozing from his pores, we all take notice.

I think a lot of men believe it’s their money or power, or even their status that draws women to them. That’s not necessarily true. Although those things have been known to attract a certain type of woman, smart women know it’s about a man’s character.

I always like to poll my coupled up friends and find out what it was that made them fall for their partner. I’d say a lot of the answers surprised their significant other! They had no idea there was something so specific and small that got their mate’s attention in the beginning.

I wonder if we really know what draws people to us? What makes a man attractive? What makes a woman stand out? Do you think you know what it is that brings all the boys/girls to the yard..besides your milkshake? (Shout out to Kelis)

Would you be surprised to learn what makes you attractive to other people?

Gooooooood morning!!

What makes a man attractive? Being a man of his word. A man of honor. A man that handles his business.

Let me tell you, boy oh boy did I get the BIGGEST laugh off reading yesterday’s posts. I gotta say y’all got a “bwah ha ha ha ha” and a LOL’d out of me, whew buddy…lol Now, y’all know I beckoned a couple of coworkers before heading out of the office to meet friends for dinner and showed them. They wanted to know what got me to laughing so. We all had a good laugh really. Naturally I had to explain cause they didn’t get it at first. Even they had a big giggle….lol One thing is for sure, I can always depend on a good laugh. Thanks miscreants!!!

Alright, got a long day and breakfast and a cab in the next hour. Got a team meeting with my new portfolio bright and early! I’m certain I’m gonna crash and burn eventually. Since Saturday, I’ve been operating off about 3 or 4 hours of sleep nightly.

Toddles aaaaaaand…….winning!!! Y’all have a FANTAB day!

One more, I was so honored and moved yesterday. I know at least six times, after being introduced the person’s expression changed to “oooh you’re Celisea” followed by being told they’d heard nothing but good things! Awww how nice to hear and a good feeling! Not to mention my host coworker took me to the fifteenth floor where I finally put faces to a team of folks I interacted with post merger during 2004. I was amazed most of them were still in that group. Soooo nice putting names with faces, exchanging contact information and eating dinner with a couple of them that tagged alone last night :)

“Would you be surprised to learn what makes you attractive to other people?” No! Different strokes for different folks.

I agree. Different strokes for different folks. But there are some physicial qualities that men pocess that are usually very desirable.

1) Hair – Women usually like men with a full head of hair. It is a sign of youth and good health.
2) Height – Men who are 5′10″ or taller are more attractive than short men.
3) Weight – No beer bellies
4) Eyes – Women like clear, beautiful eyes. Blue eyes are very popular with women.
5) Voice – Women are attracted to strong, deep voices.
6) Humor – Men who are witty and who have a good sense of humor are more attractive.
7) Smart – Women like brains (insert zombie joke here)
8) Square jaws and well-defined brow ridges – Women love this
9) Trimmed Nails – Women notice this
10) Body posture – Women norice this, too.

Too many Dogs would surely make a clean woman run away…..that’s not surprising. Two dogs is enough for one man.
Money and suave will drop panties,no doubt! Women luv money…All of them. But money alone won’t do it.

If all he has is money and no glib, some(sly) women will dig the gold and get laid elsewhere. Some women do that, absolutely!
What make a woman attractive?
Will chime in later for the rebuttal after we hear from the fairer sex!

Common..I haven’t made the Albertina pitch,yet.

Good morning, all!

In honor of Bluz and Lady’s discussion of National Mental Health Week, I thought I would post the following. Please, if someone you know meets the following criteria, get them help immediately:

Narcissistic personality disorder
Narcissistic personality disorder is a condition in which people have an inflated sense of self-importance and an extreme preoccupation with themselves.

Causes, incidence, and risk factors
The causes of this disorder are unknown. An overly sensitive personality may affect the development of this disorder.

Symptoms
A person with narcissistic personality disorder may:

•React to criticism with rage, shame, or humiliation

•Take advantage of other people to achieve his or her own goals

•Have excessive feelings of self-importance

•Exaggerate achievements and talents

•Be preoccupied with fantasies of success, power, beauty, intelligence, or ideal love

•Have unreasonable expectations of favorable treatment

•Need constant attention and admiration

•Disregard the feelings of others, and have little ability to feel empathy

•Have obsessive self-interest

•Pursue mainly selfish goals

There is no such thing as a homely millionaire.

To be attractive, the man has to be the same social class, or higher, than the woman. Men can marry down, but women can’t also marry down. Or won’t.

Ditto with height. Women won’t date or marry men who are shorter than they are. They worry more about the snide comments of their girl friends than they do about their own happiness.

A man who commands other men is attractive to women. Brains are not attractive- being the Team Captain is.

Men who rescue women are attractive heroes. Men who need rescuing are unattractive losers. Funny, but they are often the same man at different times in their life. And with different women.

Men with a sense of humor are attractive, unless the woman doesn’t have one. Then he is simply foolish in her eyes. He should find another woman.

The rebel without a cause and without a job, who stands up to and against all authority, is attractive to women. The hard working man who sings in a glee club and has a steady but unremarkable job is not.

Women want the wise, loving and comfortable guy to be their friend, confidant and back-up dating partner. They want the snarly, dope filled loser who treats them like dirt as their boyfriend.

Women confuse obnoxious and boorish for confidence. They also tend to overlook many failings if the bank balance is adequate, so I’d say income level is a draw, especially in the plastic-fantastic city of Atlanta.
The ‘dope-filled loser’ referenced above qualifies as a ‘back-door man,’ not necessarily a boyfriend. He’s the dude who women have on the side – getting the no-strings-attached action, while the actual boyfriend with a decent job, or business of his own, is out of town or otherwise busy all week. Not that men don’t have side-action as well, as there are plenty of women who are only around for the dinners and entertainment, knowing they only have to spread ‘em to keep it going, believing that one day he will tire of his steady girlfriend and call them in from the bullpen.

Sorry to sound so cynical, but it’s more commonplace than folks like to admit. And, people tend to look the other way these days, chalking it up by saying “well, they deserve to be *happy*!!!”

Morals and integrity!? C’mon.

On topic…like ITL, not much because it will be different across the board. As far as looks, I’ve dated bald headed men, and long haired men, short men, tall men…it’s not the looks that matter so much. It’s what is on the inside.

Confidence. All of those other things listed may help to make a man more interesting and attractive but there is nothing that wets the panties like a confident man. I have seen some men that were not wealthy or particularly atractive in my estimation work a room based on their confidence.

What men want most is companionship; what women want most is security. So, what about appearance equates to security for a woman? Youth, health, physical stature, social stature, and whatever looks like an ability to abundantly provide.

You can take the best looking male model in the world and dress him in a fast food uniform and put him behind a cash register, and chicks won’t take much notice — they may see some nice features, but they won’t be interested.

good morning. I must admit I giggled at the attack on bluz’ therapist. shucks, I recalled saying once or twice myself that he/she had a darned good hustle going. me, myself, personally – I’m that person that has always kind of dissed the idea of therapy. lately it’s sounding like therapy is the new thing to do. I’ve got several friends who have been touting their therapy sessions. one goes on and on about how much she loves it and it’s so refreshing. another is in couples therapy with her boyfriend. that surprised me. couples therapy with a husband I kind of understand. a boyfriend? guess they’re being proactive. another was ordered by the court to go to therapy years ago and is still in there. go figure.

Morning All!

Single – SOME women may like a yes man when trying to get what they want out of him, gold diggers and such, but nobody realy RESPECTS a yest man. And from what I gather, respect matters much to men.

As for what I find attractive, some things are obvious, some are not. Sure, confident but not to the point of arrogant. Everyone has their insecurities because they are human, so he’s not going to be sure of everything. Comfortable in his own skin is attractive. Intense is not attractive to me. Calm and easy-going are.

What do I find attractive in a man? A man that finds me attractive, all that is me not just the outside. I like those who like me.

My husband is attractive on the outside. What I found irresistable was his calm manner, his intelligence, his ability to not over-analyze some things and just be in the moment. He is not calculating with me and I don’t have to worry that there is some ulterior motive behind things he does or says. He is a decent human being that lives a respectable lifestyle that does not make me uncomfortable. Some might even find it boring. I don’t need constant excitement, danger. He likes to have fun and enjoy himself, and loves a dirty joke. But he’s a grown-up and I like that.

Don’t leave me this way
I can’t survivve, can’t stay alive
without your love,
don’t leave me this waaaaay
Aaaah baby my heart is full of love and desire for you
So come on down and do what you got to do
You started this fire down in my soul
Can’t you see it’s burning I can’t control
Come now and satisfy the need in me
Only your good loving can set me free
Don’t you leave me this way

WD – we (well I should say I so as not to speak for everyone) can’t really answer the question straight because there really is no straight answer. sometimes a person just wants what they want and they may not even be sure why they want it. sometimes there’s just a pull and you can’t quite put your finger on what that pull is. sure we have some idea of which qualities we like and prefer but every now and again something can throw us for a loop.

To be abandoned they way they were was heart wrenching. When I got to the pics in the book I said dayum, they look every bit white. No mulatto, pure d white. The book also shows how constant encouragement for one child can lead them to a successful life, while constant negative will lead another down the wrong path. The father should be more ashamed of himself than the mother because he was the one the children started out living with.

dushawn – I was really feeling coldest winter ever even if it was fiction. they were bout it. that book had me all in crush with midnight. lol. when she did release the book midnight I was disappointed. not that it wasn’t good. it just didn’t take up from “winter”. there’s supposed to be a third book. I never followed up on it though. need to put it on my to read list.

I’m not much of a reader due to ADD, but I try. The book just has to really suck me in.

Dushawn/disco ~ Nathan McCall is definitely I must read. Coldest Winter Ever was beyond raw. A few years ago, a woman was selling her self published book inside Publix. I bought it. Similar to Coldest Winter Ever but there was such ugly rawness, cussing every 3 words, beyond hoodrat mentality that I had to throw the book away.

Now, I’ve read James Baldwin’s Giovanni’s Room 4x. Love James Baldwin writings.

Several years ago I read Jim Brown’s autobiography “Out of Bounds”. Jim Brown was that mufukka! He described a wild party he threw in L.A. that lasted about a week. He said he accidentally walked in on Kareem getting served by a few young ladies. Three days later he came back for more…and they were still at it. Jim’s real life was better than most fiction.

On the subject of kids and books, I remember we were having some wireless issues at the house and I had to hook my laptop to the cable to do some work. My pre-teen daughter kept sweatin me for the computer to do some school report. I finally told her to use the 15 year old, still brand new, dusty encyclopedia Britannicas and some pen and paper like I used to. She said, “ Daddy, I don’t know how to use an encyclopedia.” …But she could put together a helluva Power Point presentation, with sound effects, music and moving pictures and words on each slide….. Technology babies.

dushawn – re technology babies. a friend of mine has a 2 year old and he’s not potty trained yet. she’s always going on and on about how smart he is. he can do this that and the other and apparently the kid is an ipad wiz. I told her none of that matters until he can wipe his own behind.

Speaking about technology babies, Dushawn, have you seen the toddler who has a magazine in front of her and doesn’t know how to turn the pages? She keeps tapping on the cover expecting it to light up or icons appear…then she starts sliding her little stubby fingers across the page. Our kids never had to pull an Encyclopedia Brittannica or a Funk & Wagnalls off the shelf or from under the living room coffee table.

Had to pop out for a few, but I am back. The Giving Tree is by Shel Silverstein and he was my first introduction to poetry. If you want your brats to love poetry, Shel Silverstein is a good place to start.

It’s not poetry. Shel Silverstein generally writes potry, but the Giving Tree is a story about a relationship where one person gives everything that they have and at the end, you wonder if all they have given is appreciated by the recipient. To be a children’s book, there are very stron metaphors in there.
