What makes a man attractive?

I am always astounded by the totally ridiculous reasons women dump guys. I’ve heard things like, “He breathed too loudly” or “He owned too many dogs.” You just can’t predict the random things that turn women off. We are complex creatures, what can I say!

While we may vary on what makes a man unattractive, most women can agree on what makes a man attractive and irresistible. When a man has “that thing” or that sex appeal oozing from his pores, we all take notice.

I think a lot of men believe it’s their money or power, or even their status that draws women to them. That’s not necessarily true. Although those things have been known to attract a certain type of woman, smart women know it’s about a man’s character.

I always like to poll my coupled up friends and find out what it was that made them fall for their partner. I’d say a lot of the answers surprised their significant other! They had no idea there was something so specific and small that got their mate’s attention in the beginning.

I wonder if we really know what draws people to us? What makes a man attractive? What makes a woman stand out? Do you think you know what it is that brings all the boys/girls to the yard..besides your milkshake? (Shout out to Kelis)

Would you be surprised to learn what makes you attractive to other people?

@Leggs: Probably not.

I love old B&W movies. Paul Newman starred in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with Elizabeth Taylor, and it’s another favorite. I watch it everytime TCM runs it.

@Leggs: Don’t watch the Halloween Wars show on Food Network. One of the competitions is to carve an evil clown. Some of them make Pennywise look like Bozo. Creeps me out just thinking about it. And yet, I watched (part of) it……

Believe it or not, but I loved Jane Eyre (sp?). It was a very slow movie, but it eventually engulfs you in their strange but committed love for one another. Also loved Wuthering Heights.

And, I know I can’t watch Halloween Wars. Too gruesome.

There are several versions of Jane Eyre. Which one are you referring to? If it’s the one that was on TCM a few months ago, Elizabeth Taylor is also in that one. She plays Jane’s only friend at the boarding school, the one who dies…..

“it” is the only book i had to put down and re-group a couple times before i got through it.
to this day, my daughter has a cherished old, tattered copy of “cujo” she keeps because it was her first bedtime story. LMAO. i didn’t do kiddie books. i snuggled up with my munchkins at bedtime and read them whatever i happened to be reading at the time. usually something from king or dean koontz.

ITL~ If you like the Stand, read Swan Song. Almost the EXACT same story, with different characters. Written at the same time so there could be no stealing of ideas. Stephen King and Robert McCammon were vibing! Excellent books!

On Stephen King, I read everything he wrote up until the gun slinger series.

IT was the first thing I ever read by SKing. It scared, but nearing the end of the book I put it down before finishing because I didn’t want the book to end. I picked it up a few hours later and finished it. He writes and you’re immediately transported into the storyline.

And as strange as SKing looks, not surprised he writes weird stuff like he does.

ahh. we are talking books. I much prefer books to football but I know this blog isn’t about me. lol. I see we are talking about Stephen king. the man is indeed a literary genius. when I was in high school my mother accused me of reading “devil books”. she just doesn’t get Stephen king. I remember the first time I read intensity by dean koontz I actually flipped from the last page to the first and started re-reading it. he hit a lick with the title because it was intense.

CC – I started to type that insomnia was one of my favorites but pulled back when I couldn’t remember why. I haven’t read it in years. all I remember was an old man not sleeping, seeing squiggly lines and talking to non-beings. I don’t recall what was going on. might have to see if the library has the ebook.

My favorite author is Donald Goines. Although I tend to gravitate toward biographical narratives of successful or interesting people, when it comes to urban storytelling he’s the man. His writing style is so raw and intense.

quality time + i did not scare them + i got a little further in my book = WIN! WIN! WIN!

to this day they kinda laugh at what passes for “scary” books and movies cuz they’ve been desensitized.

Meh…

Never been much of a Steven King fan — though Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite movies, so I should check out that novella.

I don’t know, somehow I just can’t get into the more contemporary writers who try to pull of the metaphysical. Nobody does it like Poe. At least not for me…

ok. so some of yous read my first post that three of our five employees are MIA today. well, one of our vendors just popped in the office to pick up a check and let it slip that my maintenance tech is actually at another location doing a personal job for a client of his; not at his assigned property doing the repair work i CONFIRMED with him this morning.

so that officially makes me the ONLY one working in this whole damn company today.
and that officially pisses me off.

Speaking of books, disco, I am so, so very sorry that I never got back to you on “Life On The Colored Line.” I enjoyed the story, especially since it was true, but man those two boys had it rough. To be abandoned they way they were was heart wrenching. When I got to the pics in the book I said dayum, they look every bit white. No mulatto, pure d white. The book also shows how constant encouragement for one child can lead them to a successful life, while constant negative will lead another down the wrong path. The father should be more ashamed of himself than the mother because he was the one the children started out living with.

Ahhhh, Swiss and his Annabel Lee….. :) I agree with you on Poe, though. (Hey….I made a rhyme! Maybe I’m a poet and don’t know it.)

I think my two fave Poe stories are The Telltale Heart and The Cask of Amontillado (sp?)

Fave poem? Hard to say, but Holy Sonnet 10 by John Donne is right up there. “Death, be not proud, though some have called thee mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so” I always thought it was so cool that someone could so eloquently tell death to kiss his a$$.

If I’m feeling more romantic, I’m a Pablo Neruda girl. His poems make me feel some kinda way…..

@Disco..I was just about to mention Nathan McCall. “Make Me Wanna Holler” is a life changing book. I’ve read it several times. I was somewhat disappointed with his subsequent works. Dushawn/disco ~ Nathan McCall is definitely I must read. Coldest Winter Ever was beyond raw. A few years ago, a woman was selling her self published book inside Publix. I bought it. Similar to Coldest Winter Ever but there was such ugly rawness, cussing every 3 words, beyond hoodrat mentality that I had to throw the book away.

Several years ago I read Jim Brown’s autobiography “Out of Bounds”. Jim Brown was that mufukka! He described a wild party he threw in L.A. that lasted about a week. He said he accidentally walked in on Kareem getting served by a few young ladies. Three days later he came back for more…and they were still at it. Jim’s real life was better than most fiction.
