Do men notice all the glam?

If men ever got a glimpse of our pre-date rituals, they would see all the work that some women put into looking good. It’s shower, shave, hair, outfit preparation…listen, you best believe we are ready to impress!

The irony is that when the men actually see us for the first time, we aren’t all super fabulous! I always joke that society tells us that single chicks don’t get days off. We don’t get to leave the house in sweats and a ponytail because that would mean we’ve given up on finding love! Or something, equally annoying reason women can’t be dressed down. That is when some women get the most attention, though! Explain that?

I don’t know if men notice all the extra trimmings women add on to enhance their beauty. I am not even sure women are only doing it for male attention, either.

If a guy spots someone attractive and she is dressed down, no makeup, looking au naturel, is he disappointed to see all the make up and the glam on date night?

Ladies, are you approached more when you are dressed to the nines or casual and comfortable?

Men, what do you think of makeup, hair, and all the extra things women do to look more attractive? Is there a limit to it? When is it too much?

Happy Friday!

“If a guy spots someone attractive and she is dressed down, no makeup, looking au naturel, is he disappointed to see all the make up and the glam on date night?” Its okay, if it’s not over done. but I would rather you be the person that attracted me in the first place.

“Men, what do you think of makeup, hair, and all the extra things women do to look more attractive? Is there a limit to it? When is it too much?”

makeup-a lil dab will do you, but I prefer women that don’t wear make-up.

Hair-weave, why??

First, why o you feel the need to live by societies standards, second life shouldn’t always be about finding someone!

“Or something, equally annoying reason women can’t be dressed down. That is when some women get the most attention, though! Explain that?”

When I see you dressed down, you’re actually being yourself, comfortable in your own skin. When you feel you have to dress to impress, and that’s really not you, then it’s your representative.

“Men, what do you think of makeup, hair”
A little make up is ok, although there’s nothing like a natural beauty. I know some women wear weaves so they don’t have much work to do on their hair. No offense to any lady or man I don’t care for fake hair. I can only suggest we find who we like and let the rest do what they want to do.
“If a guy spots someone attractive and she is dressed down, no makeup, looking au naturel, is he disappointed”
No! I am not I’d rather she be herself, not faking it trying to impress.

I find this alarming, a woman who is already atrractive put on so much make up she is no longer atrractive. Why does she do that, is it she don’t know where to stop or is it something that’s she’s accustomed to and don’t realize how much make up she just applied?

Morning,

I don’t wear make-up. Have never worn make-up. The only times make-up has been applied? Homecoming. Tenth grade and twelfth grade. Aside from those two times, I have never worn it. I don’t knock other women, but for me, I’m more of a “like to look good in what I’m wearng” type person. The only thing I buy/keep is a lip gloss with a hint of color in it. My ritual for my face is to wash with a clean cloth no soap, just warm water. Just in the last two or three years have I applied a bit of lotion and that’s Oil of Olay. Only because of the dryness I feel after washing.

Off topic: I had the nicest time yesterday but I didn’t get home until after dark. I was soooo tired that I couldn’t sleep. I’m aching this morning with soreness, but I learned a bit about golf :) I didn’t realize there was as much structure as my coworker taught me. He and I was placed on the 8th hole to watch for (when the golfers tee’d off) whether or not the ball was in the green. So, there were 18 holes played, 52 sets of quads…meaning I was standing on the 8th hole UNTIL 5:30!!! Now, for you golfers, if some of what I’m writing don’t sound right, forgive. I ain’t a golfer…lol The weather was beautiful and a nice breeze. The cart chick was bringing beer, snacks and drinks. Lunch was packed so we took with us out on the golf course. Chairs had been placed so we could take a squat…lol There had to have been close to four hundred folks attending the dinner afterwards. A really really nice time. Got me thinking about taking up golf….seriously :)

I’m a jeans and t-shirt girl who does not wear make up often. I don’t like to get all glammed up to meet a guy because I want him to like me for who I am, not my representative. Don’t get me wrong…I’ll get dolled up every once in a while, but I’d much prefer jeans and a comfy top…

Ok Roberta left, well I’m this way a lady can wear as much make up as she likes. If that makes her feel confident I don’t know, what I know is men I talk to say women should keep it light. Women that pack on make up like she’s icing a birthday cake should be advised it’s not neccessary, show your true beauty is all we’re asking.

When I first met the hubs, he had come to my house to pick something up early in the morning and I was still in bed. When I answered the front door, I had hastily thrown on a robe and run downstairs to answer the door. Years later, he told me that one of the reasons he married me was that he had seen me at my worst and I was still attractive so he could only imagine that I must clean up pretty well.

I don’t do the makeup thing. My face feels like it can’t breathe. No weaves, no color in the hair. I’m pretty conservative.

C~ We have the same ritual in the morning. I recently started to use a little Oil of Olay for the same reason. Here’s one you may not have tried, I use a little Noxema to wash my face while in the shower and it reduces that dry feeling without feeling weighted down by moisturizing lotion.

Also, on the lip gloss thing, I do the same. I love the C. G. Bigelow’s stuff from Bath & Body Works!

Most men I know prefer women with minimal additives. However, some females do need the help. All I ask is that if you choose to wear makeup, study your craft. Read some essence beauty tips; learn about the “smoky eye” application and other subtle techniques. I hate to see a chick whose neck is two shades darker than her face because her foundation is caked up. One more thing, the eye shadow the same color as the weave is not cute….and stop wearing your pajama bottoms in public…and house shoes are made for the house!

I ain’t Hawaiian Tropic, no pin-up, no star. So, don’t expect that and don’t bring that mentality/behavior. Honey, if you’re not 25 then you can expect the little imperfections to start rearing. I like men that are realistic, first about themselves and secondly about their mates/partners. If it’s a model you want, then I suggest you find one….lolololol

Thanks for genetics. I wear my lip gloss sometimes it’s colored sometimes it’s not. But I don’t wear the clown make up, blush and foundation and such. What attracts my attention is happiness. I’m a people watcher. I enjoy hitting the local watering hole and watching people interacting and enjoying themselves. The woman that is talkative, engaging, smiling, has a good aura, and a life loving vibe is the one that intrigues me the most. Morning all! Happy Friday! I am not really a make-up type of person; never have been. I usually wear Mac or Wet n Wild lip gloss, sometimes eye liner, but that is it. Maybe once a year at a formal event I will wear eye shadow & lipstick. I cannot do the pancake face. I have worn weave for the versatility (when I wanted an up do and when I wanted a short cut without cutting my own hair). I am a pretty down to earth kind of person, not high maintenance at all.

Morning All!!

I admit I am a glamour girl! I know how to work it though – I wear makeup artfully and sparingly to work because it gives me a polished, professional look. There was actually a study that came out recently that women who wear tasteful makeup & get their hair styled make 40 to 50 percent more than those that don’t. Hey, don’t shoot the messenger!LOL!!

I love glamming it up for a special occasion as well. As for my hair, like the ladies above get compliments on their skin, I get them on my hair. So whether I wear it long or short or in between, it’s alway my own! I keep it tight – again a polished professional look that does not require a lot of upkeep. A simple bob, a pony tail when it was long, a cute Halle cut, I’ve done it al and get nothing but positive reviews!

Keeping myself up makes me feel good, always has, not just to catch a man. Men don’t know what they want most of the time, so I never have cared what they said. The very ones going on about how they love a woman without makeup & weaves end up chasing just the opposite!LOL!

I LOVE to see my sisters looking good and making an effort. I’d rather see a person try than go around looking tired and dead. Sure, there will always be folks that overdo it! It’s not the majority though.

Hey, I just enjoy being a girl!!

That’s another thing, I use to be into long/lengthy hair. I’ve been wearing my hair sort of short and layered in the top area. I like it! I dunno, the older I get the less I fret or worry about these kinds of things. Don’t get me wrong, I like looking good and feeling good but it’s not the top of the list for me.

I definitely hope the men do the same getting ready for a date. This isn’t to impress, it’s simple hygiene and social skills. Who wants to stink and look unkempt while out on a date.

Speaking of looking or being natural. I was asked out on a date after a water gun fight at a social gathering at a park. He told me that out of all the women screaming don’t shoot me, don’t get my hair and makeup wet, I was one of the few who didn’t seem to care about all that nonsense. He said he liked that about me. Hell, I had a blast (literally). Makeup is cool as long as you don’t apply it looking like a circus clown (sorry Bluz). It doesn’t necessarily hide an insecurity. BUT, if you’re checking your face in the mirror every 15 mins, there is a problem.

There’s a lady in bathroom at work always reapplying her makeup, carrying a huge makeup case. My case consist of eyebrow pencil (a must staple), lip brush and lipstick. Not sure why one needs to reapply foundation throughout the day. That’s too much makeup, and I would think your face would probably tend to crack by day’s end.

I hate to see a younger woman dressing like a “slutt” (fake eyelashes, hair weaves, tatoos, etc.). I hate to see a older mature woman dress like an immature younger woman (clothes, hair, etc.).

My preference is for “natural” hair styles and very litle make-up (lipstick, eye shadow, only). I love “sun dresses” that accent the body (leggs, etc.) and leave plenty to the imagination. I love to see a woman who looks, acts and dresses appropriately.

It just means your preference is to wear clothes…lol I don’t look down at folks that do the “hop nekkid” but I don’t want someone calling me “booghie” in return because I don’t. People’s sense of style can be very entertaining. Last weekend my little man had a football game in Jonesboro. The girls and I were on the side line watching. One of the kids from the opposing team caught a pass and scored. The child’s mother and grandmother rush out the stands screaming “That’s my baby!!” They were jumping up down all excited. The mom had on some black lace, see thru, tights with red panties. The grandma didn’t have on a bra, breast flopping from her chin to her waist. They both had on flip flops and their feet…..whew! Oh my goodness. Me and my daughters looked at each other and just bust out laughing.

That was my question Common. I just got my first and only tat last year (mediun-sized starburst on my shoulder) after much thought and it is not trashy in the slightest. When I wore a weave, it was either a short cut or below shoulder length; no blond waist weave. I keep in mind that I have to project a professional image most of the time.
I believe that a woman can be sexy without showing all of her ASSets; it is more the way she carries herself. I can feel and look good in jeans and sweats as well as a suit, but after wearing a suit all day when I go home, I get comfortable (usually shorts & a tee) to walk around the house.

Common, yes I have seen it and looked to see if someone was setting up a pole. I saw an attorney show up to argue in the Tennessee Supreme court wearing a yellow sundress. -_- I have never gone to court in less than a full suit, but I have often had opposing counsel show up in pants & shirt or skirt & shirt, one in jeans and a flannel shirt. I read a Bar article where judges (I think 9th Circuit) complained that it was hard (no pun intended) to concentrate on what the female attorneys were saying because they wore low cut tops and too-short skirts. I often wear pants suits (unless I am in the COA or the S. Ct) because I have worked too hard not to be taken seriously.

@Comon Cents “Why do tattoos have to be sluttyy?!?”

In my opinion “tattoos” inked on a woman’s body are not attractive. My daughter who is in hers 20’s wanted a tattoo. I told her men will look at you and will think you are a slutt and a easy target because you are a follower not a leader. Just like she does not want to date a young man with dreadlocks, wearing a baseball cap, sneakers and his pants on the ground because he looks like a “thug”. I also told her when she gets older and much more mature she will thank me for telling her the truth no matter how she feels about it at this point in her life. Employers will use this as an excuse not to hire her and a good man with morals, values and standards will not see her as a woman worthy of being his wife because of the decisions she made in her 20’s to adorn her beautiful body with disgusting tattoos.

I wish all men were Real Fathers and would tell their daughters the truth about tattoos and not let them make a mistake that will last a lifetime.

I hope any young woman reading my post will thank twice before they “mark” their bodies with tattoo’s. Learn how to live and conform to society before you are judged for your stupidity.

Most guys consider women in war paint to have self-image problems, else why would they subject themselves to all that, plus the cruel shoes, just to try and impress somebody?

And, no offense to anyone, but in my opinion there is no such thing as a ‘tasteful tattoo’. I would think that the prevalence of tattoos that don’t show when dressed indicates that even people that have them agree with that, else they wouldn’t feel as if they need to hide them.

Once upon a time, tattoos were appropriate for only sailors and bikers. I guess I still think like that.

It’s also good to be a woman. Those shoes are only “cruel” when a woman buys a size that doesn’t fit her. Also, a woman wearing “war paint” doesn’t say she has self-image problems. Makeup enhances a woman’s beauty when applied appropriately.

BTW, abc, do you buy pants and/or suits to enhance your body. Bet you don’t just throw on anything because it’s against the law to go out in public naked.

Single – I agree. I don’t judge folks but I do see folks and know they should know better or seek to learn better. There’s difference. I don’t really do trashmart but if and when the occasion arises, I can’t help but see things that I know can be done better. Am I judging? Not at all. We can have a convo at the register. By the same token, I’m not blind. If it’s the young chick with 3 kids on her ankle and she’s looking ghetto fab, it’s because that’s her way of thinking. Can she do better? I’m more than certain. Will I judge her? Not at all. If I get an opening to advise her, I’m taking it. Gotta be able to discern that though. Don’t wanna get butt whip overstepping the lines…lol But what I can conclude without judging is that, that’s her environment, way of life and thinking. And until or unless she changes, that’s the norm for her. So again, I don’t pass judgement but I hope that she finds a better path.

And again, if she’s happy and that’s life and living, she like it, I love it. But still, I know better than that.

How To Keep Your Child Tattoo Free – Legal age is 18 years old

1. Know who their friends are and meet their parents. Draw a line.
2. Decide what TV channels are appropriate. You pay the cable bill.
3. Disconnect BET, and other video channels that are offensive.
4. Turn off the TV,IPad, PC and other gadgets after 9:00pm.
5. Set aside 1 hour daily for talking to each other (dinner, porch, etc.).
6. Be involved in your childs education. Encourage excellence from them.
7. Schedule time to read together (library, book store, Bible, etc.).
8. Talk to your child about life (alcohol, drugs, sex, etc.).
9. Know your neighbors and their kids.
10. Prevent businesses from setting up shop in your neighborhood (strip clubs, tattoo palors, etc.)

And last but not least visit the tattoo palor(s) and make them an offer they can not refuse. Sometimes you just gotta take matters into your own hands. It is your child and your neighborhood.

Teach your child and they will conform to society rather than be lost in a world that is unforgiving.

I recently had a conversation with my pre-teen daughter about tattoos. It went like this:
Daddy I want a tattoo.
Only idiots get tattoos
You have some
Daddy is an idiot.
Daddy, Imma get my belly button pierced.
And Imma beat the black off you!
Aunti Nikki got one.
She’s an idiot.
Daddy, she has a Undergraduate degree in Micro Biology and a Masters in Chemistry.
Go to your room.

I said and I will say it again I don’t care who has or want to get a tattoo. That’s their business and it doesn’t affect me one tiny bit. My dad has tattoo’s that didn’t make me want one, he wore earings still that didn’t make me want to wear earings, but if somebody else want to adorn themself fine don’t ask me for my opinion because I don’t care.

From the very wealthy (and I mean Arthur Blank wealthy) to down trotten folks that have nothing to sit on. I got along with each individual without judging, no I’m not an authority on anything but myself and that’s where I keep my balance.

Howdy, Comon. Like I said, my example was purely anecdotal, with a small sampling size, so it certainly doesn’t apply to everyone, I’m sure. But I do think it’s just human nature to make preliminary assumptions about people based on how they present themselves. I wouldn’t say that’s small minded, it’s just a fact of life. Unfortunately, in some cases that initial impression is the only chance you get to make an impression in some circumstances. Hell, when I was in college, everybody thought I was a frat boy. I wasn’t — and, actually, I’m about as far from a frat boy as you can possibly get — but I looked the part, so people made assumptions. It is what it is…

It’s kind of like that Dave Chappelle bit we mentioned the other day — “FINE, you are not a HO. But you ARE wearing a HO’s uniform…”

Robert ~ glad your list worked for your child. Exclusive just for you and her.

From what I’ve gathered on this blog for those of us who are parents, each and every one of us are involved in our children’s lives and daily teach them the pitfalls of life. However, we also know that they have minds of their own and like we all have, will make mistakes. Tattoos, bad boyfriends, wrong friends, etc. We can only hold their hand for so long before they go out in the world and make their own mark. It’s not always going to be with our map in their back pockets.

Tattoos goes back to the begining of time, tribal people all over the world wore them. But yeah you can tell when they became a fad here because folks wanted to be associated with thug and gangs without being in them. When Tupac showed his thug life tattoo on his stomach in the ninety’s that’s when to me tattoos exploded into the general population and everybody felt they had to have one. Still who ever wants it can have it some are sweet and others dicey but do as you will.

Had I listened to my mom, I would not have gone to Law School; I would have stayed home to “raise” my children, but having a mind of my own, I knew I could do both and do them well.

I am always styled perfectly…casual or upscale dress to the nines….I get looks no matter what because I am gorgeous and I take care of myself. I have alot of pride in my appearance…confidence I am wearing it well…..I have had some guys say”you don’t need to wear so much eye makeup…” but I don’t listen I do what I want…Never have a problem getting a man, been married 4 times to 3 men…date men as young as 27 all the way to 60…..enjoying my self and I have it going on baby!
