Dating: Ready to meet the kids?

One of our readers has been seeing a woman for about 8 months and things are getting serious. The woman he is seeing has decided that she feels comfortable enough to introduce him to her children. He has none and is actually “not that great” with kids.

He wants help in figuring out if he is ready to meet the kids. How do you know when it is time to introduce your kids to your date? Should there be a serious and exclusive relationship before you bring your kids around the person you are dating?

What should you do if you aren’t “kid friendly” but you really want things to go well?

Do you think dating a single parent is harder when you don’t have kids too?

Englebert Humperdinck (Lawd is this is real name or stage name)
Why these words are in my head, I don’t know….but they just came to mind. I certainly don’t want or need my job to release me

Please release me, let me go
For I don’t love you anymore
To waste our lives would be a sin
Release me and let me love again

CC – I would but I’m not a beer drinker. wine is fine but liquor is quicker. lol. still, beer is cheaper and I really oughtta give it another chance.

bluz – re that being a white person’s problem. stereotype or not, I’ve got to agree. if y’all remember I’m the one that told my son and brother as they headed off for college to not try to drink with the white kids. white folks tend to take drinking to a whole nother level.

Mrs. SC – two drink max? blasphemy. lol.

Tongue piercing?? Mine used to be pierced, but I eventually let it grow back. Was a thrill, though, getting it done. *shrugs* Guess I’m one who likes to tiptoe up to the line between pleasure and pain….

Bluz~ When you first get a piercing, it is a direct line to the blood stream. Ergo, alcohol goes in bypassing the liver just like sticking it up your bum.

@Mrs SC: But the question I had re: the bath salts is who the heck was the first one to say, “Hey! I think we could get high from sniffing this?!?!?” I have never picked up a box of Calgon and thought, “Hmmmmm……out of liquor, don’t feel like going to the store, I wonder……”

smh. Craziness.

Bluz – you need to be around more Black/Latino people. My grandfather used to get so wasted – white boy wasted – (lol) – that one of my guy friends called him “the drunkest man I’ve ever seen.” And he was military – who are notorious for drinking – so you know that was pretty damn drunk.

I thought “bath salts” was just a euphemism, no? I thought it was some concoction white trash folks whip up in their bath tubs, a’la crystal meth? Is it literally just bath salts? Or maybe that’s just one ingredient? Of course, in either case, ITL’s question of who thinks to themselves “I’m gonna get high on this” is still valid…

ITL – My boss would freak if she knew I did it, but they don’t see it. I’m very careful as to how far I open my mouth in front of the big wigs. It’s also pierced further back, so it’s not as obvious…Just do it! LOL!

LOL@disco. I’ll admit that folks can be clever when it comes to making a way where there is none. Shoot, I watch Lockup on MSNBC and am stunned at some of the inventions/concoctions the inmates devise. comon I believe in god, I also believe in a lot of other things, I don’t believe in someone trying to make me believe in something they believe in. I know death is inevitable, so I enjoy life and the lives of those around me so when they pass on I won’t feel bad about it.

Comon, if I was open to the idea of having more children, I wouldn’t have got snipped. I love my sons, but the thought of having/wanting children never crosses or crossed my mind.

ITL – I have told many a folks not to sleep on the drug dealers. say what you will about their “occupation” but a successful drug dealer has to have good people skills, communication skills, math skills, chemistry, marketing, etc. heck, street pharmaceuticals is a business. and, on a related note, I remember reading once that some country or other was rehabilitating their prostitutes as customer service workers. in short, does not the very act of being a prostitute require some bomb A customer service skills? lol.

On the bath salts y’all have me cracking up! It’s not literally Calgon. It’s a synthetic drug (like meth) but the look like the bath salts your mom used to use back in the 70’s and 80’s.

@Comon Cents:

No Ma’am, I don’t believe in having children outside of wed-lock or having sex before marriage. I am old school like that, and yes I am still a virg, I still date women who have had sex I don’t hate, but they have respect me and my faith is all. Not bad for a 35 year old white boy. I just want my own family not someone else’s, I know that may come off as selfish but I know what I want. I know some may make fun that I am still pure, that’s OK I am used to it.

@Swiss: I guess….but it still seems like such a waste of a good mind. You can build a working gun out of toilet paper, ramen noodles, and a battery but you’re locked up. Sad.

Just so we’re clear, bath salts are the ones that make people eat faces, right?

disco~ From dealing with them daily, I will tell you that the “higher ups”, not the street slingers or the yayo boys, but the guys who are actually making bank selling dope are some of the smartest individuals you will ever meet. And beyond the intelligence that it takes to run their “business” you would be amazed at the machinations that go on in the background to make sure that should they get pinched, their assets are protected. I have no doubt that if any one of them put their minds to it, they could be some of the most successful (and ruthless) business men you have ever seen. Not only that, these days you would be amazed how man women are in the game. It baffles the mind.
