Put the man in Romance!

I have a friend who has admitted that she is romantically challenged. She has NO idea how to be romantic with her guy. The relationship is new so he has spent most of the time and effort in romancing her. Now she is eager to reciprocate – and if not the same degree of romance, something very close.

So far he has surprised her with tickets to a play, made a picnic for them inside his living room when the weather didn’t cooperate. He even took her car to be cleaned! The man is a keeper, ya’ll! He needs to be pampered and doted on just as much. So what do men consider romantic gestures? (You know the sexy things they enjoy doing before we get naked??)

What are the best ways to romance a man who has been so romantic in his own efforts? Should women feel pressure or obligation to match the same level of romance?

What is the most romantic gesture a woman has ever shown you, guys?

Ladies, do you consider yourselves to be romantic or romantically challenged? Be honest! What is the last romantic thing you did for someone?

I’m a huge romantic. The last thing I did was planned and lead an entire evening of activities. I started with picking him, blindfolding him to ending up at a really beautiful B&B. He was immensely pleased!

“The relationship is new so he has spent most of the time and effort in romancing her. The man is a keeper, ya’ll!” WTH For that one, have we got out of the representative phase yet? At least let the newness wear off before you make that decision!

“What are the best ways to romance a man who has been so romantic in his own efforts?” Be yourself, don’t try to match the things that he has done, For me things that I want to do to romance someone in the beginning are things I want to do, because I don’t really know what she likes enough to romance her in her way. She should do the same

What is the most romantic gesture a woman has ever shown you, guys? Really can’t narrow that down, because everyone of them has done so many things with out knowing it, that just stick out in my mind.

‘The sexy things they enjoy doing before we get naked’!

Diva, that was romantic and a surprise to hear u utter the word ‘naked’. U caught me off guard there. U yourself disrobe in front of a man…or u are one of those that dilly dally, wait for him to go in bed first, then come in under the cover of darkness? Laugh..

Anyway…on topic:

Lily…I don’t know about your idea of romantic…blindfolding? I thought that would be for ‘in bed, when doing the dos and ohhs’

My queen likes eating, hotels and travel. So we go to breakfast places every so often..Romantic? I don’t know about that.
But we hitting West Palm beach in 2 weeks and I know she will like that!

She likes shopping too but I ain’t going to the mall with nobody,I’m sorry there…

Morning, all!

@Stamps: You get a wake-up call? Do you live in a hotel??? I kid, I kid….

@Shaunie: See, it’s all in the eye of the beholder…..because a date to a football game (or to watch football) with wings and beer is A-OK with this girl. But if you’re not a sports fan, I can see your point.

Most romantic gesture? Would be hard to pick just one, and while I love the surprise weekend away or the grand gestures, the little day to day things that really make a difference. The things he does just to make my life more pleasant. My car is dirty? He details it. My car is low on gas? He fills it up. Tomorrow is garbage day? He gathers all the trash and takes it out. Little things, but they make me happy. :)

I tell my woman don’t feel any pressure to match my romantic advances. It’s not a requirement for me, if she wants to do something good fine but she’s not obligated and it’s not held against her. Being her man I don’t need anything except her loyalty and trust.

Good Morning!

I’m with ITL on this topic. Football wings and beer is very romantic date for me. Especially if my team wins! LOL!

Seriously, the most romantic date I’ve had in a long time was last year on my B-da. Hubby bought tickets to Silk, Dru Hill & Toni! Tone! Tony! down in Macon and made all arrangements for the kids and hotel, kidnapped me for the weekend. It was lovely and the concert was great. He arranged for us to have our pictures taken with Dwayne for Triple T and Little G from Silk. (We did not get to meet Sisqo, but oh well!) We have the picture in our living room now and every time I see it, it makes me smile. Very romantic!

I don’t have an issue being romantic and I have to say that beau is not all that creative when it comes to that. I think the closes thing to ‘romantic’ he’s done is taken a flower out of the yard and put it in my hair or had it waiting on my car to find when I left for work. Now he has done things like, he’ll be outside washing his car while i’m dilly and dallying inside and he’s sneak and wash mine too. Or he’ll pick up something he knows I like if he goes to the store. He is not a tomatoes person but he knows i like to put them on my grilled hot dogs. So he’ll be sure to get me one if he’s buying stuff to cook out with. He bought me one of my favorite desserts to cheer me up when i was feeling down about something…so it’s really the little things.

He, on the other hand, details my car as well as some other things.

I drive the wife’s car about once bi-weekly. I like to make sure that it is driving ok. She doesn’t like driving my car at all. I really would prefer that she drive my car more regular. He car isn’t isn’t bad shape. She loves her car because it an Explorer and rides pretty high. My car is a luxury car and doesn’t ride as high. According to her, it is sitting up high.

However, I drive the wife’s ride to make sure brakes are good. I check the squeaks, and possible grinding sounds. I check the oil, Coolant/Antifreeze, transmission fluid, etc on a weekly basis.

Other than for maintenance I drive my car. I know that my wife spends the majority of her driving time on the cell phone with her friend or sorors. Which means that she isn’t listening for sounds. She wouldn’t know what to do if she heard one anyway.

PG if you’re going to drive you should know somethings about your car. One of my exes went through 4 engines because she didn’t get reminded to change to oil. I tried to teach her how to check the oil and look at the sticker, but it didn’t work. But the oddest thing to me was a letter to dear abby from a ladies who’s husband had died and she was saying how lost she was without him because he took care of everything even putting gas in the car, she didn’t even know how to do that. As for romantic, I would not call myself romantic. I do try though.

I am very cost conscious. For example, I will do more things after valentines than the actual day. Why spend more for roses that day when on the next day it will cost less.

I say that I know my wife to do that without getting the side eye. One of may romantic endeavors went like this. I actually wrote a poem and put it in an envelope. I asked by best friend to deliver it since he worked nearby. He delivered it to the receptionist. At the end of the poem, it stated that she should be prepared to be picked up and we have a dinner. I used carey limo and they send a town car to pick her up. I dropped a teddy bear off at carey. i knew some of them from previous years of calling them when i drank to much. As I look back, this is the stupid part of the story. The teddy bear wore 1.5 carat diamond earring. Nothing fancy but I looked it as if they get lost, i can buy some more. They weren’t super expensive from the jewelry store.

Anyways she saw the teddy bear and loves it to this day. It was a build a bear. So I had personal stuff on it. Including it was wearing a wedding dress with those earring. Long story short we met up for dinner at the Imperial Fez. I was already there waiting when she drove up. I didn’t propose that night. But, I wanted to let her know that I was on the same page with her in knowing how she wanted this courting process to pan out.

S&H-

I’ve taught her those things as well. I guess that I do it so regularly is because is to keep my mind clear. I know that such and such has been checked.

I know that some of the stuff has stuck. Recently, she had a check engine light on. She checked some things that I know that I mentioned to her. Some of the sorors were riding with her and mentioned that she checked those things. It turned out to be one of the sensors that tell the car’s computer about emissions.

I’m with you on teaching her though.

You sound like me in regards to concerts. Concerts were my splurge and love as a single guy. I had no problem going by myself. For me it was Sade. I flew int Madison Square Garden to see her there because I love that venue for concerts. I flew to London to see her perform too. It wasn’t Wembly Stadium, though.

Janet in the 90s was a good concert and you got sensual and you got the dance stuff.

I’ve seen Mary a few times myself. I hope that the vocals would improve for me, but they didn’t. D’Angelo was good years ago. I took the wife to Savannah to see Maxwell a few years back. I felt that he was better in small venues. Same for Jill Scott. Seems better in smaller venues. Big arena are still good. I’ve seen Jill perform many times.

Music Midtown was my thing back in the day. I have seen many greats because if it: Jimmy Cliff, Booker T & MGs, Al Green, Rick James, Me’chelle Negeocello, OutKast, Salt N Peppa, the Black Crowes, Buju Banton, Def Leopard, etc. I miss it and will probably miss it this year because I got plans at the Biltmore in Asheville.

disco~ For Little Cents’ first halloween, I dressed her up as a cow because she was such a little heifer. I agree with your mother’s words. However, I do not try to break that in her because I believe that it will serve her well when she is older.

Tere is one specific incident I remember from Kindergarten. When she first started school, chick HATED to give up her afternoons to do homework. So, I came up with this plan to brainstom about it in the morning and write down her little ABC’s so all she would have to do is copy it over to the scool paper in the afternoon thus avoiding the crying and fighting session. She comes home from school and I present her homework paper. She proceeds to cry and whine about copying the information over. In a moment of exasperation, I said to her “I thought we brainstormed tis morning so we wouldn’t have to do this this afternoon!!!” and she stopped crying (I mean, turned it off like a faucet) and looks me in the eye and says in this very adult, flat voice “Well, I guess you didn’t think that through very well, did you Mommie?” It was like someone threw cold water on me.

I always tell people she is either going to be a rocket scientist or a serial killer.

Mrs Sexy cool, there is no such thing as romantically challenged, Has anyone here seen the movie Up? Where the wife had a book with her dreams for her life in them I think, but anyway, sometime after she had passed the husband looked at the book and thought he hadn’t help her fulfill her dreams and not giving her a good life, they couldn’t have children and when they found that out, the thought that was where she stopped putting any thing in the book. When he turn the page, he found pictures of all the little things that they had done together before she died with happy doodlings around them, and she had been very happy with her life. So even do you think you are not a romantic, there are things that everyone does that makes there significant other warm and fuzzy all over :-)

Afternoon All,
I am NOT romantic at all according to wifey. I am however very thoughtful. I think i am romantic on a larger scale but I do need to work on the smaller items. I’m working on it. I tell her she is just irrational and hard to please. Case in point; We got married in Jamaica on a cliff overlooking the beach. Every anniversary I make sure she wakes up somewhere out of the country overlooking a beach. To me I think that is very romantic. She complains that I don’t give her flowers and candy enough. So as you can see I am a work in progress.
She on the other hand is overly romantic (of which I can do without). I tell her she does the romantic things for me that she likes not that I like.

If she takes showers, what you do is you take one ahead of her one day. While the mirror is all fogged up, use your finger and draw a boquet of flowers on the mirror with a sweet saying. I, too, am a child of the 70s. There are plenty of pics around the house with my afro and me wearing an kid’s sized leisure suits. I wore baby platforms in some of the pictures. There was no mistaking me for a female child. My dad had a black fist pick that was small enough to fit in my afro. He put it in my afro regularly. I even have a picture with Mikey at Disney World during the Bicentennial with the pic in my hair. I was 3 years old.

I was jet as a baby and I heard that bowling ball reference more than enough growing up. so much so that even though I’m a nice solid brown color now the family elders insist that I’m bleaching my skin or something. talking about “look at her. she’s getting so light”. it took a long time for my hair to come in. maybe 3 or 4 years but like with CC’s daughter when it did grow, it grew. it’s still the same way now. it’ll seem stagnant and then will seem to grow overnight.
