Do men feel pressure to marry?

I don’t know what its like to be single and male, but I can tell you being single and female definitely comes with pressure. The older you get *cough* the more people look at you and start to comment on why you aren’t married, how to fix it, and telling you that you have something left to do in life.

I have never heard of any of my guy friends talk of the same kinds of pressure to be someone’s husband, though. Some of them comment about feeling the need or pressure to have kids, but not necessarily with a wife. Do men feel pressure from family, friends, or even society to get married?

Do you think that there are actual marriages that are a result of “pressure” from everyone else to be married? How do you think that impacts the health of the marriage?

Would you consider dating and marrying someone simply because you feel you should be dating and marrying?

Happy Monday!

ITL~ I am open to having that dialogue, but there are many who aren’t. I don’t CHOOSE to tip-toe; I’m forced to because of my career coices, where I live, etc. No one wants to live in the war zone, so we choose to ignore the elephant in the room.

SexyCool~ I’ll take dumb for $1000, Alex. 5 baby mommas? Yeah, dumb….

Exactly, when MC Hammer filed for bankruptcy, it was not because he was broke. It was to protect his assets.

For rich people, BKs are a financial management tool. For poor people, they are a lifeline.

“Just when people of either side get entrenced in a side, they don’t really want to see the other side.”

Just watch replays of Fox News talking heads from 2004 vs. today re: the US’ role in “spreading democracy” to see this in action. All for it when it was W doing the spreading — not so much now.

SwizzBeats – very good point. A *LOT* of the folk that I see in my timeline posting in support of Mitt wouldn’t get a second glance from him…and he wouldn’t spit on them if they were on fire.

And that sucks. But I know that I would choose silence over being seen as ignorant or perceived as racist.

ITL – if y’all are friends it should be cool to ask. If y’all are friends it should be cool to get in the occasional ethnic joke. IF y’all are friends. that’s not just directed at you but in general. as open as I am to racial/ethnic issues I’m not going to entertain a question by some nobody trying to be funny. last weekend I was with a Hispanic friend of mine. she has a son that is part black. she commented on some behavior he was exhibiting (won’t mention but it was stereotypical – lol). I laughed and told her that was his black showing.

exactly Swiss-

Those are the “I want the government to keep their hands off my medicare” people. The breadbasket of the US such as Iowa and Nebraska get subsidies to grow or NOT grow corn and wheat. I bet that they feel entitled to that, too. I guess that people get VA or FHA loans don’t seem to realize that their loan is guaranteed by the US government, so they in effect live in some sort of government housing. If they don’t pay, the government has promised the pay these loan to the bank.

I will give the GOP some credit — as a political machine, they are quite effective. They’ve managed to use stupidity, racism and evangelical nut-case-dom to bring in voters who would be much better off economically under more traditionally democratic policies. As a political strategy, it’s pretty brilliant.

PG/swiss~ The issue that I have is politics, not party lines. We have been waging a “war on poverty” for years, yet the more money we spend, the higher the number of people that are living in poverty. If you are a business owner, why should you pay more because you make more? Now we live in a country that wants to punish people for being successful? The more you make the more they take (unless you’re in the 1%). And while all the dems are bItching about the tax breaks for the ultra wealthy, none of them are paying in extra (based on what they think should be fair) Obama paid 13% last year. You do realize that is LESS than someone who makes 30K a year pays in, right?

We pay less in tax than the 1950s. I think the problem started with Ronald Reagan. Trickled down doesn’t work. Although I like it myself, our system feeds off greed. Capitalism means that you have to have something of value to put up to move forward. Greed is one of the deadly sins. Sloth would probable equate to socialism. Communism equate to a deadly sin, too.

I don’t care for either party. They play the american people for the same money (Lobby money). There should be term limits for everyone. I am nearing 40 and this congressional term was the first without a Kennedy in office during my lifetime. Citizens United ruling is gonna make it worse.

Agreed. However, I don’t understand who it is greedy of me to want to keep what I have worked for and not greedy of them to want to take what I have worked for and “re-distribute” it to someone wo has not made te same sacrifices that I have made.

Poppa, I’d vote for you. At this point, I would vote for anyone with a little common sense. (no pun intended) And that is sorely lacking in BOTH parties. For me, this election has come down to who will do the LEAST amount of damage for the next 4 years. Then maybe we can scrap this whole thing and start over.

No, Darth Visor is too old. I will remember that he is at his heart at Gator. He was a Gator player and a Gator Coach. The only plus for me would be that no one would want to kill me and make him president. Then again, he may call China the UGA of the world.
