How many dates does it take?

My friend Justin recently asked me, “How many dates does it take for you to figure out if you want to know more about someone?” – which sort of made me pause. I hadn’t thought of an arbitrary number before because I guess I always knew on date one whether or not there was a connection. Is one date enough, though?

Chemistry is such a weird and unpredictable thing. A lot of times, there are no sparks on the first date, or second date! Heck, you may not feel the boom until date four! The problem is – we usually don’t wait that long for it to show up!

First dates are not everything. Perhaps we all should give our potentials a little time to “cook” to see how hot things could get. Do you think three dates is enough to know if you want to continue seeing someone?

How many dates does it take before you decide the chemistry is there or not there?

What do you like to see, think, or feel about someone to decide whether or not you two are compatible?

Happy Friday!

A first date can be make or break, run (away) or walk (to). You shouldn’t be proposing, I don’t believe, but a first date can say a lot.

How many dates depends on the people, and what they are looking for. Unless someone does something really crazy a first date shouldn’t be what you measure a person by because most of the time it’s just their representative, the real person doesn’t show up until around 6 months later.

Morning,

I’m at home today :)

On topic: I don’t know how many dates it takes to decide if chemistry is there…or not. As it relates to chemistry, IMO it’s there or not date 1 or 100. Now, for other reasons and coming to learn who a person is may be cause to call it quits but still, there can be chemistry. And just because there’s chemistry, that’s not necessarily to say y’all got that “thang” for making it work.

I dunno, I tend to think chemistry is more so the component for having a physical connection…initially. From there, you decide if everything else is a go. That’s just me though and how I view chemistry. Don’t get me wrong, I think it can be foundational but I also think it depends on how each individual view “chemistry.”

I think that there must be someting there on the first date, otherwise why would you go on a second? Chemistry, intrigue, something. Although, on the other side of that coin, you have people who are friends for years before realizing that their soul mate was in front of them the whole time. I guess it depends on the person.

O/T~ Seeking opinions this morning. As I have said in the past, my 8th grader is in a private school. He plays football and is very talented. The issue is, he is increasingly frustrated because his school’s football team sucks. (I don’t say that lightly; they REALLY suck) Yesterday night, they lost 42-0. The question is this, my son is frustrated with the thought of going on to 4 years of high school with a team that a) loses and b) doesn’t seem to care that they lose. (I think it is the latter more than the former that bothers him) so he would like to transfer to another school or go back to public school. He is ADHD (which was why we chose the school to begin with and academically he is blossoming at this school). Is football (or any other extra curricular) enough to seek out a new school?

The white chick is willing and dives in head first…getting her hair wet. Now she’s saying the black chick was classless for taking off her top on a first date (I’m agreeing). But by the same token, she’s ramming her tongue down his throat.

Ex, that’s just it; I am. Hence the reason we are even HAVING this discussion.

I know that public school is not the answer. Even though we are in a excellent school district, he needs the smaller class size and individualized attention to keep his grades up. I say the same thing that S/H says, but the hubs and the boy’s father say that he will need a coach that can actually hone the skill if his talent is going to continue to develop. Trying to make a decision early because if he is going to move schools, it will have to be decided by Jan or Feb at the latest. Kids are going to be the death of me!!!!

What’s with the chemistry thing? If you’re looking for “chemistry” that just means you looking to hook up. Which is fine, if that’s what you’re looking for. You’ll know on date #1.

If you looking for a long term relationship, don’t even think “chemistry” until you get to know the person a bit. You ought to be looking for character, ambition, attitudes, direction…. all that stuff that makes a relationship work.

Gotta get your priorities in the right order. Just sayin

Single and Happier "Life Happens!"

Comon, you also have an opportunity to teach something that many of my generation learned early on, sometimes you have to take the good with the bad, and mommy and daddy aren’t going to be there to save you from everything. We played on teams that sucked, didn’t get picked for every sport we went out for. Did our on home work, because most of our parents couldn’t help us. My statement to most that are doing pretty good, when they say I want my child to have it better than I did, is your life that messed up now, because the things you went through as a child is what made you the adult you are today!

Celisea

September 7th, 2012
9:43 am

I don’t think “chemistry” is necessarily something you go “looking” for. I think chemistry is either there or not. Because chemisty is present doesn’t necessarily mean everything defaults to hooking up. I think that’s where scruples and decorum comes into play. If you’re seeking something longterm, permanent, deeper, then you don’t have to jump each other’s bones. You seek more, a deeper connection than the physical.

Celisea, true that, but the first question was how do you decide whether you want to get to know the person better. Then it jumped to chemistry. All I’m saying is forget the chemistry at first. I’m going for character. Chemistry will develop. If it doesn’t, then I’ve made a close friend. If it does, then I’ve got a solid relationship. Seems like most folks are focused on the hookup.

A very good friend of my have two sons, one of which is 7 and plays for a church team. Knowing my friend, he ain’t a member of the church. But, I believe the program is open to anyone that registers before the roster is full. My point is, there should be organizations where a kid can play without necessarily having an affiliation. So, the school team may not work but there should other avenues you can take.

Good Morning, all.

CC-

Academic first. One thing that I am most grateful about in my life is that I had choices. I was offered full undergrad academic scholarships to UGA, Auburn, Florida State, and partial scholarships to some Ivy League Not saying this to brag, but to express having how having options. I chose to attend South Carolina because I wanted to explore the football path. Not because it was my only avenue for college. Looking back, having a choice was so great for me. I had many teammates that looked at me like I have three eyes because I chose to do the early morning runs and drills. Many teammates had no other choice than play football to earn a college degree.

As for honing in skills, there are plenty of summer camps by various coaches that can help your child . Many D-1 college coaches themselves conduct them or host them. Mark Richt has done one for years. DJ Shockley (former UGA QB and Falcons backup) developed a relationship with Mark Richt down in Tallahassee while Richt was offensive coordinator of FSU. When Richt accepted UGA job over the Missouri job (he was offered the job by both school-ironically they play each other tomorrow), DJ followed Richt to UGA.

Also, many professional players have summer camps as well. Andrew Luck got instruction in high school by attending Peyton Manning camp.

My point is there are other ways to skin a cat. (lobbed that one right up there for, Exiled!.. :) ) You just have to do the research and may have to come out of pocket more, but it is an investment.

What up folks… Happy Friday to you!!

CC-Academics First, however, the world is not private, if your has been given a strong academic foundation there, he may not have any issue navigating a Public environment. There is also something to be said for the his natural socialization with other to round him off. I have a recommedation, only because I used to work with Adolescents, not because I want to run your bidness.

I would suggest keeping him in a private setting through 9th grade, allowing him to Play Football, go to camps, nurture his game and mind. Then turn him loose 10th Grade to your Public System. He will likely be academically ahead of his peers, and ready to enter the Competitive Environment of a large Public System from a Sportsmanship perspective…He will also have possibly matured enough to maintain focus or build his own parameters to take ownership of his illness….Which he will have to do at some point.

Slim-see what that mini-spread got you, STALKED….lol

Jake~ Thanks for the advice. My concern with “turning him loose” as you say in public school is that even if he is ahead of his peers, the reason I pulled him out of public school was an absolutely disastrous 6th grade year. I’m alking conferences at the school every month, no answers from teachers, fighting about homework/projects, etc. I feel that he is developing and learning the skills he needs to succeed (academically) but I fear that because the focus is NOT on academics in public school (i.e.~ the peer pressure in private school is to make the dean’s list or headmaster’s honor roll) that he may begin lose focus again.

WillieD – LOLOL…ain’t nobody “done me wrong”, but….

I’m at a crossroads and you know me, I like taking it slow. Well, I like where things are, sort of “noncommitted”, if you understand where I’m coming from. Contrary to what’s believed and the way of the masses, I’m not right now looking to move “from this spot.” Well, it’s causing a bit of angst because, naturally things should progress…IF you know what I mean. I have to be honest, I don’t mind progressing but at the same time, I don’t want what comes with it. I don’t want to be all heavy and stuff. Not being heavy though, I cannot expect exclusivity even though that’s what I want, sooooo what to do what to do.

Suisse…

If your “pups” don’t get cute, y’all should win. The difference in the team’s lines is UGA’ advantage. Both teams have similiar “skill” players, but if the pups take adavantage of the trenches they should win.

However, I know lately Aaron Murray hasn’t really shown up in big games away from Athens, except beating the inept Gators last year. Other than that: Boise State (Loss), LSU -SEC championship (Loss), Michigan State (loss).

If you guys win tomorrow, then you may be able to plan a return trip to the SEC Championship.

BTW, I predict that Gaytors beat Texas A&M. They haven’t gotten to knock the rust off by having a game. Florida did have first game. They played bad, but the biggest improvement tends to be between game 1 and game 2. So, the Gaytor fans should be some happy jean short wearing people.

S/H~ They are not saying that she is not guilty of jaywalking. They are saying that her jaywalking did not ultimately cause her child’s death. Here is how you argue that point.

Chick is a single mother who had been at work all day before picking up her children and taking CCT home. She gets off the bus directly across from her apartment complex between 6-7 PM. (It’s dusk) In order to cross the street legally (in other words, at a crosswalk) she would have had to walk 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile in each direction while pushing one child in a stroller and holding the hand of the other. (Along with any other items she may have had with her). Therefore, she crossed the street at the same point everyone else crossed the street. They attorney is arguing that it was the circumstances (i.e.- dusk, no crosswalk, speeding driver) that actually caused the death of the child, not the mother’s decision to jaywalk. Make sense?

That the child getting killed wasn’t her fault. It’s something you see around here all time, people not wanting to take the extra steps to get to the cross walk, it’s one thing to put your self in danger, it’s another put your child in danger. To me it’s the same as if I rob a bank and someone has a heart attack, I get charged with that to, but I didn’t shoot them.

Single and Happier "Life Happens!"

Yes he was drunk, maybe speeding, but she was in the wrong also. Yes it may have happen in a crosswalk, but we can’t go by ifs

Comon Cents

Have you ever been on Franklin Road? Interestingly enough, they put a crosswalk in afer this happened for exactly that reason. Struggling after a long day with 2 cildren (and God knows what else) in tow and you’re going to walk another 3/4 of a mile each way at 6-7 PM at night? I’m a mom and I can tell you, in her position, I would have probably made the same decision that she did. The ultimate responsibility should be on the speeding hit & run driver. My suspicion (and, of course, this can’t be proven but there are other cases that bear it out) is even if she had been in the crosswalk, that driver would have still hit her kid. Sad, but true.

Single and Happy – I have a question for you

Comon Cents

September 7th, 2012
5:22 pm

She was not convicted of jaywalking. She was convicted of vehicular homicide. If they were charging her with jaywalking, I would be the first person lined up to say “guilty!” But since that’s not what they are charging her with I have to say, no go!

Single and Happier "Life Happens!"

September 7th, 2012
5:26 pm

Comon, I’m sorry for her, but no can’t say she’s been through enough because if we look at the facts of what happened, had she walked that 3/4 mile her child would still be alive because the drunk man would have passed by them in that time. And you say they put the crosswalks in after, how many complaints had they had before that, or did people just take as the norm and cross the streets? I asked about this because I’ve noticed in my travels that in other cities people tend to use the cross walks and hit the buttons to cross the street. and here especially in Atl, you almost never see that happen but they will cross anyway, even with police standing there. If you have a few hit and runs then they crack down on it for a little while, but then it’s back to the norm.

Single and Happier "Life Happens!"

September 7th, 2012

And you say they put the crosswalks in after, how many complaints had they had before that, or did people just take as the norm and cross the streets

People cross all the time without the crosswalk on Franklin. Not saying that doesn’t happen. But, according to the statute, she CANNOT be guilty of vehicular homicide because she had NO CONTROL OVER THE CAR. Now, they are squabbling over appeals, but the original jury conviction is for the same reason you and I are having this conversation. If therw was even one parent on that jury, they felt like her child would be alive today had she walked another mile and a half and they convicted her.

Single and Happier "Life Happens!"

September 7th, 2012
5:32 pm

Comon I can only say this for me, but If I did something like that and caused someone that I cared about to be killed, I would take whatever punishment was handed down to me for my part.

Single and Happier "Life Happens!"

September 7th, 2012
5:36 pm

Comon I would’t think it was that bad, but you see people here that won’t even walk a few feet to the cross walk, won’t hit the button or wait for the walk signal, that will not stop when people are in the cross walk, it’s just the norm. For me it was the norm also until I was in other busy cities and people were actually using them because cops were actually enforcing those rules.
