Dating: Play or get played

There are a lot of cynics on the dating scene. Heck, I admit that I was mayor of Bitterville a couple of times. It’s hard not to become at least a little protective of our egos, hearts, and emotions.

I met a really great guy the other day at the recycling center at DeKalb’s Farmer’s Market. We had the most random chat about Atlanta and dating. He was of the mindset that you have to play the dating game – at least a little. If not, you could find yourself being used and abused, even when your intentions are good.

It sounded a little cynical to me, so I asked him when did this attitude about women and relationships come about. He launched into a really awful account of his last girlfriend who played really dirty dating games with him. Of course he is gun shy!

Do you think that a lot of single people think this way? Are we slow to trust the intentions of others? Do we question their motives too much?

If we are all thinking that we have to play or get played, then who is winning?!

Happy Friday!

Also the African American Wine Tasting Society is having a function tomorrow. Originally $25.00 to get in, supposedly w/coupon $12.50.

Isn’t it kind of an Insult to use the term ‘African American’ in the Olympics?? Heard some commentators saying it and I was taken back by it (even as someone of a different race)

Why would it be an insult? That is the politically correct term.

ATL Guy

Politically correct!? So during the Olympics is the athlete representing the United States as an American or representing the continent of Africa? Think about it …

ATL Guy

These so called terms find ways to almost divide indirectly when they are really used as a sensitivity meaning. The American Athlete who held up a Mexican Flag when he won a medal wasn’t being called a Mexican/American, but that to me was unjust as he felt to be representing Mexico with USA on his jersey

ATL~ It would depend on how the term was used. If you are describing his nationality, that’s one thing. But if you are talking about how Gabby Douglas is the first African American woman to win the Women’s Individual All Around competition, then it is the correct term.

ATL~ No. The correct term to describe you would not be European American unless you were a natural born citizen. You are an immigrant so you would simply be a European who lives in America.

why are you so sensitive?

Because you have a tendency to be antagonistic when you think you have made a point. It would be my suspicion that that is cultural though and not symptomatic of your being a troll. What general area of Europe?

Have to understand it is an odd concept for people outside looking in, because end of the day, all races are Americans (not Asian Americans, European Americans, Australian Americans, etc). To me, its what makes this country so special

Yup. You’re definitely an import. Anyone who is born in this country knows about race from a very young age because (unfortunately) as Americans we have a long and torrid history with it.

Lets look at History, it wasn’t kind to Africans no doubt. Slavery sucks … but what about the Japanese that were detained for years out West or the Irish for terrible treatment during the industrial revolution, or the Indians that were ran off their land? American History has some terrible moments, no doubt, but when does that ever transgress? Is it fair to say that the generation today is not the same as the generation in the past?

Celisea....Beware of the Son of Belial! Sticks and stones baby, sticks and stones. And still? Winning, cause I'm not mad :)

Along with Swiss’s assessment, before I head home and as I popped in the end of the day to see if all the ranting had ceased (sigh), I found a few quotes that I hope will help heal the wounded sad misguided soul(s):

A misery is not to be measured from the nature of the evil, but from the temper of the sufferer.

We are apt to measure the happiness or misery of the world by that portion of either which has fallen to our lot.

Men appear to prefer to ruin one another’s fortunes, and to cut each other’s throats over a few miserable villages, than to extend the means of human happiness”,

You can’t make yourself happy bringing misery to other people.

Crack is wack

As my mama taught me, the biggest weapon against ignorance and hate is love, peace and hair grease joy  You should learn, oh broken one, that two or more parties must be present in order to debate or argue (changing your blog names don’t count…lolololol). Otherwise, you a rabid dog yelling in the wind. That it’s not really talking if there’s one person with the hand in the back of the dummy (as in make believe). But, I pray for you (and myself), come Sunday, a special prayer to lift you from your misery. I truly hope this helps and that your healing begins

Assalamualaikum, Ali BaBa, Goodnight, Ciao, Peace in the Middle East, Holla, Toodles and PEEEEEEAAACCCES (said like Pam from Martin)…and whatever your soul can relate to

I’m not racial in the least bit and maybe its my upbringing or whatever, but to me always being focused in the past doesn’t allow the next generation to move forward cohesively. Should always remember what happened and acknowlege the injustices to make sure that never happens again and educate to be a more complete society. The Germans had to move on from Nazi way, there comes a point where people must look forward to a better future for themselves or their people cause living in history will only set the distinction between people, in my opinion

Comon can I jump in, something that upset me during the Olympics was Dominique Dawes describing her gymnastic team and the mufti-cultural , She said “we had a African american, an Asian american, a Romanian american and some Americans, that just didn’t go over that well with me. Probably most of here ancestors where here long before most of theirs!

Leggs~ Because everytime he comes on here, he antagonizes. He did it with disco earlier today, he did it with me just now, he did it with Celisea a few days ago (maybe a week now?) and he did it with ITL one day. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out he likes to antagonize. If every time I “see” you on the blog, you’re instigating with someone, I have to assume that you like to anatagonize.
