I was out hanging in our great city recently and I noticed something about the dating scene, it’s competitive. No really, like pull out all the stops, going way overboard to attract people – competitive. It’s one of those things you sort of always knew about the dating scene here, but until you pay close attention, you don’t see the intricate ways it unfolds.
A lot of people in Atlanta are really big on image (fake?) and the appearance of success. You don’t have to actually be successful, just walk and talk like you are. The problem with focusing on the image and appearance is that you really find out later once the bait and switch happens. All this makes the dating scene competitive, a little challenging, and I think a bit shallow.
What do you think? Have you noticed the competitiveness of single people here? Does it bother you? How can you rise above this kind of thing and meet people who are more authentic and genuine?

C~ Ok, I dipped out and got a cuban from Havana. Didn’t have to wait to eat and the sandwich is still fab!
Bluz~ Really?!? You knew he was going through a lot when you first boned him. That cannot be an excuse for not treating you right. BS! But if you’re willing to accept it, then so be it…

I promise Lady that I’m never that irresponsible with my meds. I was angry and wasn’t thinking. I have never thought about doing that again. I know I won’t. Good thing is that Ambien doesn’t mess me up like it does to some people. I may get a little loopy before bed sometimes, but the worst that I typically do is eat and maybe text or email things that I don’t remember.

CC – I don’t know everything he’s going through. I know a couple of things. It’s not an excuse for how he treated me, but I’m willing to hear him out and decide from there. I need to let him know how he made me feel. I’m not a wh0re and refuse to be treated like one…FWB or not…

@swiss: I have to wait to check the link. I’m sure it’s something guaranteed to make me smile.
@Bluz: Cook’s Warehouse and Williams Sonoma (and a couple of other spots) offer inexpensive cooking classes. Might be a fun way to learn something new AND meet a well-adjusted single man. IJS….

Sorry for the bluntness, but I feel that Bluz can a) handle it and b) needs to hear the truth no holds barred.
C~ Cuban food is delish and if you’re ever in the Emory/Buford Highway area, Havan has some of the best. (And a good Health Dept rating)

@CC: LOVE cuban food. My mom lived in Miami for awhile when she was growing up. My granny could make some Cuban chicken and rice and black beans that would make you cry they were so good.

@Lady: I don’t care for lemon meringue pie (it’s a texture thing) but last time we were at Jim and Nick’s my friend suggested we split the lemon icebox for dessert. I was SO happy we did.
That said, the drunken chocolate voodoo cake at South City Kitchen is the bomb dot com!

Comon Cents – Okay thanks. I’m still iffy though about trying. They’ll do a cuban sandwich downstairs but it’s not the real thing and it’s not all that appealing. I think it’s ham, pork, flatbread, mustard and pickles…done on the grill. That’s sounds bleak

@CC: you know we’re getting our “Buffalo” meal all ready for the tailgate. We always try to do themed meals, based on the opponent (i.e. we always have chicken for Carolina games!) I think I heard Buffalo wings and Bison burgers for next week.
