Dating in Atlanta competitive?
I was out hanging in our great city recently and I noticed something about the dating scene, it’s competitive. No really, like pull out all the stops, going way overboard to attract people – competitive. It’s one of those things you sort of always knew about the dating scene here, but until you pay close attention, you don’t see the intricate ways it unfolds.
A lot of people in Atlanta are really big on image (fake?) and the appearance of success. You don’t have to actually be successful, just walk and talk like you are. The problem with focusing on the image and appearance is that you really find out later once the bait and switch happens. All this makes the dating scene competitive, a little challenging, and I think a bit shallow.
What do you think? Have you noticed the competitiveness of single people here? Does it bother you? How can you rise above this kind of thing and meet people who are more authentic and genuine?

BF lol Figured I’d put it out there before I ended up putting my foot in my mouth and yall not know why.
Lady – I’m already hungry for lunch and it’s driving me crazy. I ended up going to lunch early yesterday but the 2nd half of the day drug on forever it seemed. I’m trying to hold out but I find myself looking at menus online trying to decide what I want to eat. I hate when I’m craving something but don’t know what it is!

I went down and got a little something to put in my belly for breakfast. If not and EVERY time I bring lunch, I’ll eat it by 9:30…no matter the meal…lol. So, to keep from eating my lunch, I grabbed something this morning.

OK…I hope ya’ll don’t shoot me, but I need to share what just happened…
Magnum texted me a couple times this morning and I didn’t respond because there was nothing to respond to. Then, he texted “are we not speaking anymore?” I said “yes…but I need to talk to you about some things weighing heavily on my mind.” He said “ditto…”
I’m very conflicted. I think we need to just clear the air about this weekend and try to start over as just friends…Should I ask him when we can meet or leave it up to him?

Leggs that’s all it takes is one bone, shoot I’ll do half a slab or more. I go to JJ ribs on Campebllton Rd now and buy by the pan full. If I don’t have company they’ll last about three days. I got worn out cooking them myself.

Cely I call ahead to place an order for a pan of tips and ribs. Yeah they put you in mind of the days where you sop your bread in the sauce. A couple slices of bread and the sauce can make a good meal in itself.

Bluzy – We all get conflicted at times. If you haven’t been you will be. What to do, what to do. The right thing versus “what I want.” If you can’t do the right thing and stick with it and move it along, go for what you want. You cannot though do both, if what you want is not “the right thing to do.” If they’re both one and the same, go for it. If not, and you know better than any of us could ever advise, it’s like trying walking backwards and forwards at the same time…impossible.

Blackfoote – We tried to get in there during the holidays and it was crazy packed. So, we resorted to This Is It, got tips there. They weren’t half bad. But yeah, that sauce where you’re dipping just the bread…mmm mmm mmm I can do that though at either JJ’s or This Is It.

I skimmed a bit, know you all are probably off topic now, but I’ll comment on it anyway. I recognized the somewhat competitiveness of the dating scene many years ago and relieved myself of it by taking myself out of it! What I mean by that is I didn’t frequent all the “in” places where singles mixed and mingled, because when I did, you could cut the tension in those places with a knife! Plus, I truly lost interest in them, like the nightclubs & gyms & other “meet” markets. I don’t think it’s much more competitive here than any other major city though. Bottom line, you do have some truly successful people here and I’m not just talking about the entertainers & athletes either. Those with a little less confidence in themselves and what they have to offer may attempt to fake it to fit in. What I’ve always observed thought, is that the cream always rises to the top. You can only fake it for so long. I’m a real native and I’ve seen many wannabees come and go! Folks who truly have it going on can spot the fakes a mile away, trust. The better thing to do is yes, be yourself! If you spot someone whose success you truly admire, get to know them and find out what their secret is. You’ll find that they are where they are because of hard work. You gotta be willing to put in the work. Too many come here expecting things to be easy and laid out for them. Plus, it’s in the South so they expect it to be like Mayberry and everyone is supposed to be genuine and friendly. There are sheep in wolves clothing here like anywhere else.
