Men of valor

Like many of you, I have been extremely saddened to hear about the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado this weekend. It is heartbreaking to hear about the lives that were lost and the families that are left with the huge loss of loved ones. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those who were affected.

I read that there were three men who shielded their girlfriends and lost their lives protecting them. True men of valor. I am sure it was an instinctive move to do so because men innately want to protect. At least, that is what my Father always told me.

He said that any man that does not show you he wants to protect you is not the man for you. He would say, “Pay attention to that kind of thing because it is always about their character.”

A lot of women overlook the importance of a man’s character. It’s not until they are faced with a particular situation that shows them a man’s true character. I believe the same holds true for men. They think that looks are enough until they realize the severe lack of character.

How do you think people show their character in the early stages of dating? What do you pay attention to?

Have you ever dated someone and realized how great their character was? What were the circumstances?

@HST – “It’s OK, I understand that this scares you, and you need to believe in something, but your thought and beliefs are that of a pacifist.”

I grew-up in a City where crime and violence occurred everyday and I never owned a gun in that environment. I am no pacifist. I am a realist. It appears people who live in the suburbs have more guns than everybody else because of “fear”. They “fear” someone will steal their property (car, tv, etc.). Based on your extreme comments you would kill someone trying to steal your car or tv. I hope and pray I am not in WalMart or Starbucks with people like you who think it is appropiate to brings guns into public places. You are no different than the guy who killed and wounded all those people in CO. I am sick and tired of all the hatred, fear and rage/mob mentality. Enough is Enough. Guns don’t kill people. People kill people.

Afternoon All,

On Topic – I would do everything I possibly could to protect mines. I am no hero but I would probably help whomever needed helping. I have been told that I tend to step in and help on occasion. I also understand the dynamic of thinking before leaping. I will not get involved in family or domestic disputes. Just not gonna do it.

How does one even look at a family member with lust. GROSS!!!

I don’t like big crowds simply because of how easy one can be picked pocket. I found myself stranded on Times Square during the NYE countdown waiting on my sister. I will freely admit I was scared. Too many people crammed in together. I just wanted to find the nearest train station. Never met up with my sister because I became paranoid and had to get the heck out of dodge.

I can’t say I agree with this statement…plenty of folks in rural/nonsuburban areas are heavy in weaponry

I think folks in the surburbs have a false sense of security, almost naive. I think they are genuinely surprised to find out when crime happens in their neighborhood.

I think those in rural areas have been accustomed to leaving their doors open, car keys on seat, windows open at night for so long that when some monster comes to their neck of the woods, they are truly taken aback. Sometimes, it takes one heinous crime to open up the eyes in the neighborhood for good.

It shouldn’t be thought that if you aren’t in the suburbs, everything else defaults to “ghetto” or the hood.” There are swanky neighborhoods in the rural area.

WD – As with every city, they all have their ‘areas’ of interest if you will. Back in the day, you’d harldy ever hear about too many things happening out there. Now you just never know. I recall not too long ago that a dude got stabbed and shot up at the Ingles parking lot, not too far from where i live. Then folks started breaking houses in the neighborhood…not to mention a chicks exboyfriend set her garage and house on fire after the break-up..So we have it all lol

MMeello – That was ballsy. I don’t think I would have said anything. You know folks will turn on you for inviting yourself in. Maybe he was appreciative….lol Maybe he couldn’t check her.

I know it seems retarded to say this but:

I have a fiesty nature…not disagreeable though with a mate. I’m much easier with a mate. I cannot though, CANNOT be with a dude that can’t handle a woman. I cannot. I don’t mean beating up on her and yanking her by the leg. That dude was moist.

Decatur, East Point, Bankhead, East Lake Meadows (use to be)…

Much of these areas were considered hardcore ghetto. I know I was deathly afraid to go to East Lake Meadows. I’ve only gone out there since it’s been renovated and the golf course built. I use to hang out with a guy that played golf out there.

I worked for AT&T waaaaaaay back when (before D&Bradstreet), back in the day and worked with a chick that declared the owner was her MIL. I think it was more so a case of a girlfriend wishing…lol Anyhoo, she would take orders on Fridays and come back with big boxes of fish plates because everybody and their baby sister wanted a dinner. She claimed she gave us the hookup but buying fish there on my own, it was never more than 3.00

Dont worry all these “Ghettos” will be a thing of the past as soon as they pass this referendum at the end of the month. People are gonna be flocking to move inside the perimeter. And yeah every Hood has its points.. Decatur has nice areas as well as Bankhead. With random outbreaks of foolishness here and there. But mark my work. ISP is going to be where everyone will be clamoring to be.. And if you cant pay the taxes.. You will have to move outside the perimeter..

Blackfoote – I’m serious when I say I’d never gone out there…just heard rumors. I always thought it was the worst of all the hood spots. I could be wrong. It could have been me and the fact that I’m a chicken…lol

Herndon Homes was another. I remember being in what elementary (when it went to the 7th grade) with a cousin. Her mom dropped us off to a friend’s house. I was only about 12 but I was scared the entire time…lol I didn’t tell my mama for years. Her mom was trusting like that. When she got a bit older, her mom “turned her head”, on a bunch of stuff she was doing. Keep her daddy’s blood pressure spiked allll the time.
