Like many of you, I have been extremely saddened to hear about the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado this weekend. It is heartbreaking to hear about the lives that were lost and the families that are left with the huge loss of loved ones. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those who were affected.
I read that there were three men who shielded their girlfriends and lost their lives protecting them. True men of valor. I am sure it was an instinctive move to do so because men innately want to protect. At least, that is what my Father always told me.
He said that any man that does not show you he wants to protect you is not the man for you. He would say, “Pay attention to that kind of thing because it is always about their character.”
A lot of women overlook the importance of a man’s character. It’s not until they are faced with a particular situation that shows them a man’s true character. I believe the same holds true for men. They think that looks are enough until they realize the severe lack of character.
How do you think people show their character in the early stages of dating? What do you pay attention to?
Have you ever dated someone and realized how great their character was? What were the circumstances?

Do y’all realize that there was 500 years between the old and new testament? Surely, you have to question the validity of the stories in the Bible…it was written by man.
People in my ER always have some Jesus or God diatribe. Just so y’all know they had nothing to do with it – it was modern chemistry and science.

I am a scientist (95% of scientists do not believe in God)
As am I…a microbiologist to be exact and I’m glad to be in the 5% minority that believe in GOD. However I’d like to know how you could possibly surmise that 95% of scientist don’t believe in God…you said that based on what knowledge/survey/report/article/journal….

Morning All!!
Welcome back C!
I have told you all before about some years back when I got a call at work from one of my neighbors that my alarm had gone off and the police were at my house. My house was in College Park and I work in Alpharetta, so it was going to take some time for me to get home. I called the guy I was seeing at the time to meet me at the house. I had gotten assurance from the police & the alarm company that all seemed well. By the time I got home I knew it would be dark and I wanted boyfriend to walk around inside the house with me to be sure. He met me at the house and we went in. I proceeded to walk around the house, back to the bedrooms and kitchen. Where was he? Plopped on the couch in the greatroom watching tv. We had had problems, but that was the last straw. I realized then he really didn’t care about me or my well-being. I went off on him, then asked him to leave, never to return.
I agree, you really don’t know what you’ll do in an emergency. When you are given a chance to see a person’s true character, like I was given above, please take note. It will give you a clue of what’s to come in the future.

Maybe Tazzee will walk in oday and give us a closing verse today..we need it in these trying times…
what do uall thing about gun control and the NRA…especially as it relates to the asault rifles….we have too many guns in the streets..
but then again, this dude was a model citizen, only one traffic ticket, i doubt if any law wld have prevented him from having a gun.
I just hate the fact that we walk around unprotected from folks who are hell bent on destroying the lives of innocent people….its a scary thought.
I can take an act of an accident, not some wanton, unprovoked and intentional killing of people.

A man of valor is not out in the world looking for Titans to clash with. Sure no one knows what they will do in times of peril, a man of valor doesn’t know either what he does know is to react to a threat to him or people he care about. Any man that make claims he will do this and he’s capable of that is nothing more than a carpet bagger. I know guys that was suppose to be tough cower when it time came for action instead of words. The meek at times can be our best savior.

disco – Yeah, I think the ‘inner city’ is as a result of some interaction gone wrong. When it comes to suburban, it could be for any reason and the result being many injured that had nothing to do with the act. Is Chris Rock the one that also said, AA’s commit homicides and WA commit suicides?

Blackfoote – You’re right. It just kills me when folks say on the news “this sort of thing never happens here.” I think in the times we’re living in, you’re ignorant if you think crime is limited to certain areas. I think you’re silly if you think you can altogether avoid. You can walk into a bank or store and there’s a robbery. You can go into a mall and someone there is shooting up the place. You can step on the sidewalk and get caught in the crossfire. It’s everywhere.

Years ago my (deceased) sister and my oldest sister rented a fairly new house together. Well, they stopped one night on the way home and walked in on a robbery. She said upon entering the store they realized and both turned and ran.

BF – I have a family member that is always on edge and scary. If she’s in a place with too many ‘rough’ looking individuals, she’s locking her car doors. She’s scared to be home by herself and usually barricades her bedroom door with stuff at night.

I will say though, I’m not frequenting places often, where there are people in groves. If it’s an event or venue and cannot be avoided, sure. But making a habit, not so much. I remember being downtown with a friend to watch the peach drop, some years ago and he almost got into it with someone because of the shoving and pushing. I told him it’s time to go. I mean folks getting offended because there’s a crowd and you’re getting touched?? Nope, I’m done with big crowds. I’m not being contradictory because again, you cannot live your life running scared. You can though limit being in those type places. Even so, that won’t guarantee a thing.

i’m not generally scary but I have been in some neighborhoods where I completely ignored traffic signals and stop signs. I figured if I ever got pulled over the cop would likely understand. if not, that’s a ticket I’d pay. I know for a fact that “predators” waited on folks to stop to run up and try to smash their windows.

Mmello – Exactly. It’s getting so now, that we need to be on guard and watchful of our surroundings wherever we go. No place where we can be more lack and relaxed. I’m always looking around especially if I’m out and about alone. Most times, folks are watching you when you aren’t watching them. Too, I don’t let folks walk up on me. I’ve had several occasions where someone wants to walk up and “splain” something. Naw buddy, I can’t do it, I don’t have it, I ain’t got it.
I stopped at the gas station one morning a block from my job and I’m watching this dude get out of a plucker…can you say raggedy (not the point but I was watching), put on a jacket and bent over to get a book or something out of his car. Now I’m watching him. I turn to look at the pump for a sec and turn back, he’s heading towards me. I cut him off when he was within ear shot but nooooo, he keeps coming closer and selling whatever lie/line. I was busy saying no, no, no, nope, nuh uh. He started getting a bit heated because I wouldn’t listen to his scam. I said “dude, you see that cop right that? You need to move away from me or I’m gonna signal him.” He walked away but was heated I should say. It’s okay. I just needed to get the heck on.
