Relationships: Almost doesn’t count?

Single people catch a lot of flack about being too picky, having loads of items on their dating checklists, and being a little unreasonable about who would be a good match for us. Is it really mandatory to have all that in one person to make us happy with who we pick?

Often, I am inclined to agree that we focus too much on perfect matching, and less on authentic compatibility. How close do we need to be to get the most important things we want in a mate?

If we think we want a certain type of person, does it count if you meet someone with 80% of what you think is ideal?

If you rank the top traits of an ideal mate, what do you do when you meet someone with most, but not all of those traits? Do you hold out for the 100 %? Is it foolish to believe that the person actually exists?

When it comes to being with the someone you can build and share a life with, what is the one thing you believe could seal the deal for you? Is the one thing something you would keep waiting for if you are not finding it anywhere?

Yeah, bluzgirl, nobody wants a musician. The musicians themselves can understand it.

I think pretty much every player I’ve ever known has had a girlfriend or wife that tried to make them quit playing, including me. It was fairly commonplace that upon returning from a tour, one of the guys would go home to an empty house — his wife and kids were now living with their pastor or something.

One of the reasons I split with an old girlfriend was the Glock she carried around all the time. In the nightstand, in the glovebox… I’m like, there are kids around, lock up the gun. I won’t allow a gun in the house. Instead, I live where I don’t need one.

No guns here. Can’t say I haven’t thought about it. Especially after being burglarized twice.

abc – You live where you don’t need a gun…and exactly where is that because I figured we live in times where no neighborhood is exempt from crime. (Unless of course you’re living in a hidden underground bunker with a secret entrance

You took the thoughts out of my head, SlimUno. Doesn’t seem like anyone is safe.

Well, to what abc said, not sure if this is what he meant but I live under prayer. I have found that I’ve been kept safe until this point. God never said I would avoid the things that’s happening in the world today…had to learn that. What I pray for is to keep me and mine safe. For him to protect me while we’re asleep, to carry me to my point of destination and bring me back safely. I don’t pray to keep my material stuff. If it’s taken, he’ll resupply my needs. :)

And I do that daily….every morning before leaving and every night before I lay me down to sleep.

I never had a problem with guns in the house. my son “found” my gun when he was younger and called my mother and told on me. guess he thought I would get a whooping or something. (the great lengths he went through to find it are a whole ‘nother story). I understand the dangers of having them in the home but I also understand that the home is a dangerous place. folks fall down stairs, slip in showers, get burned in kitchens. accidents, lethal or not, are always waiting to happen. I will say that I felt a bit more comfortable with a gun in the house with their being only one child than I would have with two. something about more kids makes all kinds of things jump off

And if I lose my life, Heaven ultimately is my goal. I don’t want to die at the hand of someone breaking in or rape or even the cross fire but if that’s the way I’m destined to go….again Heaven is my goal. That’s why you can’t sweat the small stuff. None of this stuff we talk about or worry about is going to cross over into eternity.

abc…actually…I may consider a musician again, but it would be one who has a full time job and only plays music on the side for fun! Since I’m pretty well known in the local music scene, it is possible that I will meet another musician and develop feelings. I just refuse to support another one while he attempts and fails at living the dream!

There is a musical couple that live next door to me. Both have full-time jobs, husband plays sax/trumpet & wife sings. Even their young daughter plays piano and sings. They perform in their church and the husband is in a band that plays local gigs. The wife sings with the band from time to time. They are a beautiful, talented family.

Also…thanks for the info for Divas in Defense. Gonna check that out. Also, need to save the money for a gun. I’ve been to a shooting range once and it felt pretty good to shoot a gun. I’m sure they offer classes at the one close to me.
