Dating dilemma: Age gap

When you date much older or much younger people, you have probably had to navigate the age gap. Whenever it becomes painfully obvious that you two are from totally different generations, or have polar opposite outlooks on life. How do you hand the difference in age?

A lot of it has to do with maturity and communication. You find a way to work out the differences by acknowledging them first. It’s not helpful to overlook the pink elephant in the room.

A friend of mine is dating someone a lot younger than he is. Still, he is somewhat surprised how she handles certain situations. I feel as if he should understand that it comes with the territory of dating younger. I encourage him to cut her some slack and remind him how he was clueless at her age too.

Do you ever wonder if dating someone who is much older or much younger is worth all the adjustments that you have to make?

They way I see it, every relationship will have it’s own unique set of challenges. If dealing with the difference in age is the toughest part of the relationship, then that’s not all that bad. Then again, I haven’t dated (many?) 20 year olds in a while either.

What age ranges do you think are most compatible to you? Do you think age matters at all?

How young would you date? How old?

Hey Everyone.

I don’t really put a lot of stock in age. It’s compatibility that counts. I’ve met very mature and well put together 25 year olds, and I’ve met trifling childish should-no-better 48 year olds. Age isn’t always a good indicator of maturity, experience, or wisdom. Instead of using age as a proxy for those things, I just look for the presence of those things directly.

@disco – Flattery only working when it’s sincere, but otherwise you just think people are toying with you!

@Celisea – As long as you are working on better habits you’re doing just fine. It’s only when people pretend healthy is important that it becomes serious. I never really done vitamins because i don’t like taking pills. But I see they have gummie viatmens for adults i might give it a try or wise it’s just incorprated in the diet as usual.

Lady/disco – Never worn foundation a day in my life. I bet for those women that do (esp black), they would be just beautiful without it. So what you have a couple of blemishes. Go with it and without the foundation.

BSV – And for every pharmicist and doctor where I’ve asked for recommendation on vitamins, the answer first is always eat right. I was asking about fiber a while back and I COULD NOT get the pharmacist to stop chastising me about eating more fruit and veggies.

Oh, I do put just a bit of Oil of Olay lotion on my face after washing.

Used oil of olay cause my skin gets pail
and then I grabbed the file for my finger nails
I’m true to the style on my behalf
I put the bubbles in the tub so I could take a bubble bath
Clean, dry, was my, body and hair
I threw on my brand new Gucci underwear
For all the girls I might take home
I got the Johnson’s Baby Powder and the Polo Cologne
Fresh dress, like a million bucks,
put on the Bally shoes and the fly green socks.
Stepped out the house stopped short, oh no
Went back in I forgot my Kangol

Everything in moderation. I know folks get sick of that, but it’s true. You still can enjoy good food and your favorite vices, in moderation. My body rejects junk after awhile if I eat too much of it, so it makes it easy for me. But every now and then, fries or a good juicy steak are called for! I absolutely love fruit and salads, so that makes it easy. I’ve been around alot of sickness and I know no matter how careful, I still may come down with something bad, but if I do, I can at least have a fighting chance to survive and lessen the suffering.

Plus, I just feel so good and light when I’m in good shape!

I don’t care about the price, I love some MAC and other high end cosmetics. I don’t even use alot of it, I just love the packaging and the glamour of it all! I can only use MAC or Clinique lipstick and powders. Anything with fragrance in it on my face will break me out. I can get by with cheaper eye products though. Won’t ever use false eyelashes though, can’t get with the glue on my eyes!

I did have some problems with acne and have been using Proactiv for a little over a year, but it seems like that problem is getting better as I get older. We’ll see what happens when I don’t use it for a while!

C – I just started wearing makeup maybe 2-3 years ago. I needed something to make me feel “grown” at the time. here’s my commercial pitch… over the years none of the drug store stuff tickled my fancy but when I finally bought the mac something clicked. plus having the natural hair and the plain face might be a little much. I’m single, remember? lol.

kimmie – with my first foray into mac I had a gift card and went wild. found I wasn’t overly impressed with the lipstick or the liner. I haven’t even learned how to work eye makeup yet (other than mascara). like I said, I’ll run down through dollar tree and get some lipstick/lipgloss.

disco – lol…I hear ya. Commercial eh? Yeah, go on and get that Mac make-up. Really, I don’t see anything wrong with paying a bit much for that one thing you do special for yourself…be it make-up, shoes, eating out…as long as it’s not with EVERYTHING. That’s wasting money. My weakness is shoes. Make-up? Not so much. I left Mac and have a nice brown CG…lol 4.99 and I like it :) I didn’t like any of the Mac colors. I was in there a loooong time with buddy. I was getting on his nerves…LOL

Celisea – Yes they advised you right. I’ve always been on the healthy path. I stray with certain sweets from time to time. My body will always let me know what it’s lakcing kinda keeps me in check. Now if only i could get a full 6-7 hours sleep daily then everything else will fall in place. Guess I’ll sleep more when the little man gets older ( I hope).

I hear everyone raving about mac. I have yet to try any as I’ve kept it quite basic. Guess I’ll be checking out those eyes shadow sooner than later!

BSV – Everything we need for this body is in the earth (i.e. vegetation, fruit, trees, etc) and it’s just that abandon. I’m a sugar/sweet-aholic. I’m getting better.

I didn’t see the rave over Mac and charging me dang $18 for gloss. I’d rather put that towards something else…lol

@Celisea ~ shoes are my weakness too. All the shelves in my closet fell down forcing me to clean out my closet. I gave a good 40+ pair of shoes to the local church’s shoe drive. Good shoes in good condition, but I knew I wouldn’t be wearing them anymore. Heck a few I even forgot I had. Still have over 60+ in my tub, my bathroom, my room. Purged some of my clothes as well. But, my closet is now neat and clean!

@2C ~ I kept my two blouses from 1979 because they still fit and nothing wrong with them.
