Is passion overrated?

Passion. Chemistry. Intense desire. Are these things that could actually be overrated? If you aren’t with someone and feel all these things, does it mean you two aren’t supposed to be together?

If everyone is waiting around for the person that they feel strong passion for, does that mean we are all naive and don’t know what real, true, long-lasting love is about?

When you consider the things that makes most couples last beyond six months, how important do you think passion and chemistry are?

I was watching New Girl and Zoe Daschanel’s character wants to end things with a man because he did not seem to have the same “passion” he felt for his ex-wife….a woman he “hates.” He tells New Girl, “Passion is overrated” and that kind of intensity burns out fast and is not enough to sustain a healthy relationship.

TV fiction aside, I had to think about which one I would pick if I had to pick one: passion-filled affair or long-lasting aka lukewarm, attraction. If you had to pick one, which would you want?

Were your best love affairs filled with passion or deep like?

First ride was a 91 Nissan Sentra, handed down….rode that fugger til I had to let it go, had 285,000 on her before I gave in. My peeps from school dubbed it “The Rolling Frat House”, cause I had everything you would need for a party in that ride. Keg and Tap, cups, essential green goods, 80 proof concoctions, whatever….my motto was, if the gas station is open, we will get there…carried me through college, and my first 4 years after…..dayum I loved that car!!!

He’s mellowed over the years, but he has his moments. It’s in his DNA, much like it’s in mine to buck back!

Funny, Jake asking if it’s safe…it’s a video of R.E.M. You can take it from there (lol).

Trips home replenishes us because it’s simple, in many cases…you are with folks that care about you and accept you as you are. I tend to go ‘home’ too when I get aggravated & fed up with life at times…and there is something about being around my little niece that gives me a whole nother perspective. She is so innocent, eager to learn, eager to play and lives for each moment. I guess being around her represents life before Eve eating of the Tree of Knowledge ;-)

disco, trying to wrap my head around outbound “good times” and “‘mayberry” on the return lap.
i’m usually the other way around. time with my fam tends to bring out the “barrio” in me.

leggs, now that’s just rude! i may severely neglect the mechanics of an automobile, but i’d never let it LOOK bad.

jake, it’s a nissan/infiniti thang! i LUVED my maxima. still hate that the ex totalled it, left it on the side of the road somewhere, and never even told me.
my qx4 has 223k miles and still purring like a big cat. i’m not trading him in either. osiris will be with me until he truly returns to the underworld.

celisea, i put in my time with the national gigs. so many cutbacks and threats of layoff you never know what to expect. one minute its “hey! aren’t you all glad we’re surviving this economy?!” next minute “uh. but we’re not doing well enough to pay raises or bonuses. sorry.”

there is something to be said for working for a small company. we each have quite a workload, but we’re indispensable.

Man, total opposite for me. Trips home tire me out because I’m either constantly holding my tongue or getting into political arguments.

jake – too funny. once when I went home some cousins and I popped the trunk and opened up shop. had a party sitting on the curb of our old block. dude had a cooler, liquor, beer, set ups, ice, cups, tops, swishers you name it.

slim – you make going home seem all innocent. innocence isn’t what I seek. I need to be checked. I need for somebody to say “shut the eff up” or “sit your blank A down”. I need folks that are just as rough around the edges as I am.

brat – see what I said to slim. after a few days of all my family’s ignorance and foolishness I’m good. I can go Pollyanna for a minute. thing is it doesn’t last long. that real, true self always starts to work it’s way to the surface.
