Is passion overrated?

Passion. Chemistry. Intense desire. Are these things that could actually be overrated? If you aren’t with someone and feel all these things, does it mean you two aren’t supposed to be together?

If everyone is waiting around for the person that they feel strong passion for, does that mean we are all naive and don’t know what real, true, long-lasting love is about?

When you consider the things that makes most couples last beyond six months, how important do you think passion and chemistry are?

I was watching New Girl and Zoe Daschanel’s character wants to end things with a man because he did not seem to have the same “passion” he felt for his ex-wife….a woman he “hates.” He tells New Girl, “Passion is overrated” and that kind of intensity burns out fast and is not enough to sustain a healthy relationship.

TV fiction aside, I had to think about which one I would pick if I had to pick one: passion-filled affair or long-lasting aka lukewarm, attraction. If you had to pick one, which would you want?

Were your best love affairs filled with passion or deep like?

That little Chevette wouldn’t go more than 60mph — and that was down hill with a strong wind at its back. But that d@mn thing wouldn’t break down. We gave to my uncle after I got my own car and he drove it for another 10 years after that.

I wanted a Honda Accord or a Jeep! Never got the Jeep, but my 1st car was a used beige Accord hatchback that I got for $1500 when I graduated from UGA. I was so proud of that little car and the fact that I had no car note!!

Mayne! Cars used to last back in the day because they were heavy duty. These days, I believe they are built to need repairing within the first 3 years lol…then the repairs are so expensive that it makes sense to just buy a new damn car altogether.

funny. reminiscing on first cars and how a guy was the man just because he had a car. heck, coming up we didn’t even have a family car let alone cars for the kids to drive. when a new car did hit the scene it was something else. I remember assorted family members sporting their new thunderbirds and lincoln continentals and I can’t leave out the cutlass supreme.

Good noon, good people!

passion? it comes in sooooo many forms. there’s the lustful passion (which i NEVER want to be without) and then there’s just good ol’ fashioned passion for life, living, sharing, experiencing (good and bad). all those things are important in our relationship.

even when we’re vegging on the patio or the couch, there’s still a passion for sharing those moments of absolutely nothing. i guess it’s all a matter of perspective and perception. my first marriage had great passion too. unfortunately, i learned to turn it against him. c’est la vie. *shrugs*

cars? i bought my own first car; a 89 mercury tracer. i was 24. i’ve bought both my kids their first hoopties. and both were greatly appreciated simply because it kept them away from dark, cold, rainy bus stops. they were in high demand for giving friends rides in high school. but mama kept that under strict supervision.

and every car we’ve had in our household has been named.

I didn’t get my first NEW car until my 2nd year in college. It was a Geo Prizm and it was a stick..I came home one weekend and it was in the driveway. I was all excited until I saw that stick shift throught the window, then my smile turned into a frown because I had no clue how to drive a 5-speed….so basically, my step-dad taught me that same weekend how to drive it lol

I remember my first day with a driver’s license. I turned 16 on a Friday & got my license that day (of course). My HS had a football game that night, so I told my parents I was going to drive to the game with some friends (that couldn’t drive yet). Now, we lived in a tiny, po-dunk town about 2 hours away from ATL, and the HS was only like 2 miles from my house, so my parents were cool with that. Of course, what I didn’t tell them was that it was an away game — at Marist. So I loaded my little 16-yr-old butt along with 3 of my friends in that little Chevette & hauled our behinds around 285 on a Friday evening to get to the game. My parents didn’t realize it was a road game until they listened to part of the game on the radio. Needless to say, they were not amused when I got home.

lady – ahhh. the station wagon. my grandparents had one way back in the day and it takes my grandmother to tell the tale of how she put that car on layaway. that’s right – I said layaway! she said she made arrangements with the car salesman to make payments on a used station wagon until they could pay it off and take it home. may have mentioned these particular grandparents had 12 kids. grandma said she got home from a church picnic once and the kids piled out of the car. turns out she had two kids that didn’t belong to her and she had to drive them back. hilarious.

swiss – you needed your butt kicked for that stunt.

My second car was a brand new…Toyota Corolla, 5 speed. Talking about being a dumb bot, I bought it in Alpharetta with no adult with me (probably had SUCKER stamped on my forehead) and drove it home. It’s a wonder I didn’t burn the clutch out. But I learned to drive an automatic right then and there. I tell ya, the dumb things you do when you’re young. Although, my dad would take me out and give a helping hand until I profected.

I haven’t driven a 5-speed in years. A few years back a dude I’d just started dated loaned me his car after knowing him a month or so while my was literally being repaired. I needed to make a run and he offered…so I accepted. It was a Saab and it all came back to me as I pulled off. I did get stuck one and the alarm kicked in. I had to call him and asked how to start the car again…lol Folks were honking at me in traffic

lol @ swiss. yeah, disco’s right. you shoulda been thrashed.

my funny new driver stories?
1. because i learned to drive in a plymouth sundance i used to go to dealerships and ask if they had any on the lot because that’s all i knew how to drive. i kid you not!

2. when i did get my little tracer, i didn’t know how to turn on the headlights (cuz it was ever so slightly different from a sundance), so the very first time i drove it at night i found myself navigating 285 (from LaVista to 75) sans headlights. EVERYBODY was honking at me.

although, i do plan on test driving that gmc terrain. it could be a contender. i’m in a qx4 now but i’m ready to downsize. next up should be a bmw x5 or audi q7.
s/o is pushing for the beamer; i’m for the audi. we’ll just see

my first brand-spanking new car was a ‘00 camry. i hated that car cuz everybody and their mama had one. but it gave me zero maintenance issues and allowed me to speed like a bat outta he!!. not necessarily a good thing, i know, but i sure made good use of it at the time.

@Celisea ~ I was dating a guy who had to leave town (a trucker) and he left his Nissan 200SX with me. Loved that car. He told me I could drive it if I knew how to navigate a stick. Hell, nothing but words to me. I taught myself that day and smoothed out the rough edges during a long trek to Marietta. I was sweating bullets. That car had awesome speakers. By the time I reached home, I had sweat stains under my armpits (didn’t help I had on a silk blouse).
