Women more sexually empowered?
There is an interesting debate that started over at Huffington Post and I heard about on Q100’s The Bert Show. It is centered around the questions: Do women now have a sexual advantage? Are women more sexually empowered than men?
Since women are earning more, staying single longer, and are generally living on their own terms, our sex lives are drastically different. Somehow this translates to a sexual advantage.
There is something about sexual empowerment being connected to economics that bothers me, but I understand the point that is being made. The idea is that there is some type of advantage in being a female today with more money, power, and freedom to make choices.
What I wonder though is how can one truly qualify or quantify sexual empowerment? Perhaps I am over thinking this, what are your thoughts?
Is sexual empowerment in men and women something that can truly be compared? Especially considering all of the different/double standards society hold for men and women?

Wow Diva, I caught a bit of this yesterday morning driving in and frankly as women have progressed in many areas over the years, we are still women. That’s the way God made us and that’s the way we’ll remain. While I may sound ignorant to some, we were made different from men for reasons. There is variance that lie between the sexes and will always remain. Women weren’t intended to operate as men otherwise God would have made us all one gender. Yet it doesn’t make us any less. I don’t need to have sex the way men do and I’m not any worse in not competing for men like men compete for women. No matter how much “catching up” of the genders it seems we’ve done, we’ll never be men, have the strength of men, have a heart of stone like men, etc. I happy to love hard, I’m happy to go deep, I’m happy to be the softer weaker sex. I’m especially happy to be the bearer of life. we are different and unique in our own right. I like what I possess as a woman and the difference in gender I can offer AND bring to my man.
As it relates to salaries and fairing different, I don’t fret over that either. I make well and satisfied with my own accomplishments. I don’t the time or energy to waste over worrying about what men are makung. I keep on keeping in my own right.
There are so many things and areas where we differ in genders that the good outweighs the bad, evem down to the double standards carried between the sexes.

Women have always been physically able to engage in sexual intercourse because they have the ability to do so if they are so inclined where men have to face the reality of aging in a more profound way. Women have much more mental involvement and stronger relationship leanings in selecting their sexual partners. Women have enjoyed increase empowerment in their relationships with or without men which has been changing over the years because of their increased education and their ability to compete with men in the employment market place for the better paying jobs as well as their demonstration to employers of their abilities to perform in almost all job opportunities in all walks of life. Women have found a way to balance careers with the raising of their children thru seeking and finding their husbands willing to work together in raising their families together in order to provide the family with the ability to increase their family income as well as seek a level of accomplishment in their career fields. Yes, their is still the staying home Mother, but an increasing stay at home Father as well depending on the earning power of each of them. I have 4 daughters, all college educated, strong willed, some career oriented but all wonderful Mothers who have thrived under the present family format available to those women who seek a better life through higher education and new empowerment of their elevated employment opportunities variable to them. That translates to all things that affect sexual, economical, and family life. I must qualify that I am talking about America as no where else on earth are women able to enjoy these opportunities that American women have available to them, I only wish that all American women could be in a position to take advantage of these opportunities.

Are women more sexually empowered than men? Uhhh yeah…Its more evident in todays generation than in the past. I also think its one of the many factors that created a blur in the line with our roles as men and women.

Today, women can have an advantage if they apply their overall knowledge, skills and abilities to succeed in life. All women are emotional and sometimes their feelings get in the way of the choices they make. As women mature they become aware of their power and freedom to make choices. For example younger women (20-30) are still learning how to survive and will make stupid choices concerning money and relationships by not finishing their education, having kids, etc.. Some women are able to overcome these choices and live a good lifestyle. Older women (35-50) have experience and knowledge and will use that to take advantage of their freedom of choice. Most women know money and power does not make you happy. The choices women make (family, career, relationship, etc.) determine who they are and how happy she can be in her life.

All kidding aside, your statement that men aren’t asking as soon is true. But you failed to mention that more people (men and women!) are attending college and pursuing secondary degrees than ever before. Added to this is the desire to establish a career and stability. So yes, men are asking later, but women aren’t ready to be asked.

Whaaaat??? You should. Why should women be paid less than men for the same work? I very much object to that. It’s not right.
As to whether women have a sexual advantage, haven’t we always? Did you know that women ultimately got the right to vote not by picketing and complaining, but by HOLDING OUT at home. No vote, no puddy. Those women of yesteryear understood their sexual advantage.

Go out and count the numebr of guys that are making every effort to hook up then just try to find the number of women doing the same….. I love everything about Lily’s post
Couldn’t have said it any better. I didn’t hear anything negative nor a take down. I didn’t hear her say she’s happy to make less than men.
Lady – I’m digging the “order of service.”
I’m the woman God created and happy to thrive in that role. For me that means progressing, doing better, making my own money, being independant, etc. Even so, it does not negate the fact that I need men. All of you (men), everywhere. I need my SO, my daddy, my bothers, my nephews, my neighbors, pastors, community workers….all of them.
I don’t need to prove ever that I’m just as strong or just as equal or just as qualified. Men that are men already know and understand the role. They are atuned to the purpose she serves that it’s never been beneath them. It’s not about doing him one better or vice versa, it’s about coming together as one, as a whole whether in relationships or by humanity.
I don’t need to have tons of sexual escapades to prove my empowerment. I don’t need to dangle the carrot (being sex) to get what I need. IMO that’s game playing. Empowered women don’t play games. I don’t need to hold out as bait. If there’s an issue that calls for such, so be it but not under the guise of game playing or baiting.
I believe (and in my opinion), too much woman trying to play the role of man and operate as man and play like man will eventually have an adverse effect.
ITL – Love your response regarding women not being ready. I’ll add that some of the empowerment women now possess is because of the lack of presence from men. IMO this only evolve and turned positive for women overall and everywhere.

Into the light (9:23). Actually women are beginning to dominate college and post-grad enrollment. So,if anything, more and more women are extending their education, not men.
But it is still a myth that the only reason women aren’t getting married is because they are the ones who are deciding to wait. If men are asking at the same rate, and at the same age as previous generations and women were saying no, then it would be valid that women are waiting. But let’s put that myth to rest.

I heard this discussion on the Bert Show. Interesting. I like Lily’s post though, except while I don’t spend alot of time worrying about it, equal pay for equal work is only right and fair.
I have no desire to be or behave like a man when it comes to the birds & the bees. I embrace my womanhood. The beautiful thing about it today is that I have choices women did not have in the past. It’s a beautiful thing. I can go the traditional route or the modern route or some of both. I choose both! I am a lovely mixture of it all. It’s necessary to be able to change in this changing world.
As for marriage, it’s all about finding someone who compliments you, shares the same values and is supportive of your dreams, whatever they might be. There is someone for everyone out there! Don’t knock other people because they choose to go about it different than you would or what you are used to.

Sexually empowered? Did I miss something? When did women ever lose their sexual-power? You have to FIRST be sexually weak to be empowered. I think the better question would be “Are women more sexually promiscuous?”
If the woman is sexually promiscuous with many men (non-committed relations), then yea she sexually weak, because she’s not in her lane; playing it like a man. sexual advantage over men, yeah right, don’t make me laugh..advantage over little boys maybe, but men nope!

Afternoon All,
American women have gained empowerment in almost every facet of life over time. Why wouldn’t that also include sexual empowerment? I wouldn’t say they are more empowered than Men as a whole but the opportunity for them based on factors given in the topic as well as your posts does exist. Whether a Woman chooses to act on that is entirely her choice based on her beliefs and position in life. I don’t knock a Woman for doing so either way.
Personally I know me, whether she is empowered or not she still has to have a well rounded balance to her being to even get a tryout.

Actually, this is an economic class thing. Those women of the lower and lower middle economic classes have more sexual enpowerment, and end up marrying less and divorcing more than upper and upper middle class women do. Women who make a commitment to a long term marriage end up richer and usually happier, as do their partners and children. Women who use their sexual enpowerment and sexual entitlement most often fall off the marriage and commitment highway.
Men who know women who feel sexually enpowered also feel enpowered to take them as temporary sexual partners rather than as lifelong marriage partners. So in a way, this sexual enpowerment has made many women worse off. It will take a few generations to get this all settled and sorted out between the sexes. That time is not yet here.

I really wonder this topic can REALLY be proven. Everybody has their take on it and see through the windows of their lives and experiences. I just wondered though (a bit earlier), if you can REEEEALLY say and prove women are more sexually empowered. I wonder if women who believe they are, are just fooling themselves and I wonder women who believe otherwise just didn’t get the memo. Of course I fall in here somewhere and have my thoughts and beliefs but I wonder if somethere it can be solidly proven.

And I wonder too if it’s something men REALLY can’t speak to..you know the “it takes one to know one” thing…well sort of or if they have some real insight and not opinions. It’s easy to call a woman a wh@re or say she’s a prude, too loose or not loose enough. By who’s standards? Men? Do they have a say so? Can they speak to what’s considered “loose” as we’ve seen on here, many differ along these lines as well. So who is right or what is right?

Cel – It gets frustrating at times to see how harsh or differently women are judged for some of the same things that men do, who aren’t given the scarlet letter when they do it.
