Being frugal sexy?

I was listening to the Frank and Wanda radio show on the way to work yesterday. They were talking about dating frugal people and someone said that using a coupon on a date was not sexy. Seriously! Being smart about money is a turn off?

How does using a coupon kill the romance on a date, though? If a guy whipped out a coupon, groupon, or even foursquare check-in discount, do you know how impressed I would be?

It’s like some women have this fantasy of being wooed by wealthy men, and a coupon kind of jolts them back to “practical reality” or something.

Have you ever used a coupon or discount deal on a date? If not, would you be opposed to it?

Would it bother you to date someone who is frugal?

Let’s put aside some of those extras we don’t need…maybe then we can eat out sans coupons.

I agree with Kimmie, some folks just want easy. So you use the coupon…can I discount the booty? Can you just get a sniff or whiff or only the tip gets a hit? Discounting remember???

IJS….lolololol

Lady – I’m just saying…. :) Let’s cut back on EVERYTHING then if saving it is (yes “is”) I’m saving myself then.

Celisea – I feel ya!LOL!!!

I’m not with folks trying to be something they are not. I’m also wary about coupons sometimes too, especially those for fancy places. You really need to read the fine-print and that’s why I say call ahead about it. No need in getting embarassed. But if you couldn’t afford to go to that place and pay the regular prices one in awhile, then I say don’t front and stay in your lane. Date within your means. Then later down the road, if you want to do something nice and splurge, try out the fancy place and if you have a coupon, you can use the money you saved up to go but didn’t have to use on the coupon for something else.

That’s called being smart.

I don’t look @ coupons to say one can’t afford it I look @ the deal and being able to order more after a discount…..but I see your point Kimmie with staying in your means accordingly. When I really can’t afford eating out I don’t and don’t make my mate either…..

Exactly Kimmie. That’s exactly where I was going. I need to save like the next man and absolutely nothing wrong with that but eating out everday on coupons ain’t exactly it or saving 10k and you still spend 50k ain’t something to brag about either. I’m the first person to admit I probably spend too much eating out but I’m not clipping coupons either. I agree. Cut back altogether, perhaps then we can enjoy a meal void of coupons and discounts.

If the person you are with has a problem with you using a coupon then that is not the right person for you. Let her go find a dude that doesn’t use a coupon and you go find a chick that don’t mind you using a coupon.

PSA
50% offf is 50% off and I would use it in a heart beat.

That is all!

The last 15 minutes of highly sexual content was brought to you by, “Mr. Nastyman”, now back to your regularly scheduled blogging.

So anyways, I have done some eating out with the coupons, I don’t think twice about it. For the restaurant, its marketing, for me its research, a chance to check out a place at a discount to determine if I would be willing to return at the full price.

kimmie

Lady – My mindset is like this – I don’t go to any establishment unless I can pay full price for what I want. I don’t like to window-shop!LOL!! Coupon or not, if I can’t walk up into Bones that night and afford whatever it is I want on the menu, I don’t go. I save up the money until I can walk in with confidence and enjoy myself. The coupon would just be icing on the cake. I don’t like being beholden to a coupon. Rolling in like I’m not used to nice things and nice places. I’m proud like that. No problem with saving money and catching a deal, absolutely, just be smooth about it.

It puts a real damper on things to be around folks complaining about how expensive something is or how much things cost. It ruins the experience. Had some folks to act like that in Vegas around my wedding.
People are in business to make money. They are not standing around giving away nice things, nice meals. You have to pay to play. If you can’t afford something, stay at home. I worked hard and did all the “right things” – go to college, work 2 jobs, etc, so I could enjoy some of the nicer things in life!

Sorry for my tirade and not aimed at you Lady, just thinking about some things!

ummm Kimmie I am the same way if I sit down with a coupon or not I am going t o order what I want and can afford. but anyway you do it your way and I will do it mine coupon and all and I frequent nice eateries and places with and without a coupon with money also

Using coupons to offset the price of a pricey restaurant is one of the benefits of having the coupons, whether you can afford to eat there w/o the coupon or not. It’s an added benefit that affords one the opportunity to actually go to that particular establishment. And, using coupons doesn’t necessarily mean a person is saving their funds, just using their funds wisely. I agree with you, Celisea, if you in fact are “saving,” then go the entire distance and actually save. Cook at home, set your own ambiance and not give that 50% or whatever the percentage may be to a restaurant.

@Kimmie, I do agree that there are tactful ways to use the dining coupon, and if they say they are not accepting it and clearly should, it shouldn’t be an issue….that is what the coporate number is for….lol

Indeed Jake for your 2nd paragraph on your 12:12 its all about exploring…………I have nothing to prove when I frequent places. as I stated earlier many places offer deals ll the time bc business is just not what it use to be and deals attract folks and folks will spend more if they like and return. the almighty dollar

Celisea

Leggs – I don’t clip coupons but I sign up for great deals. Heck I’m happy when I can save a pecentage.

Like For Real put it, I’m not going to dump a dude because he’s not impressed that I clipped a coupon that will save him what 2.00 bucks off a meal? I’m going to eat just as heartily if a dude whips out one and use while paying for our meal but if he drops me because I’m not Coupon Cathy….then so be it. I call it, at that point being cheap. Get on then with ya cheap self…lol

Celisea

But I’m not believing I’m saving money because I spent $45 dollars instead of $50

That’s the point I was making. We can take that $50 buy a few grocieries for a meal or two and leftovers…and have change left to put towards another household expense :)

Lady – My way is your way! My tirade was kinda aimed at folks that want to be cheap and don’t have any tact. Hard to explain, but again was not aimed at you. I like a deal just like the next person. And business, especially the restaurant business, is not what it was.

Jake – Exactly. Be tactful and it wouldn’t even need to be an issue for Frank & Wanda or this blog to talk about.

Hey Lady – And then you have to be careful because all deals are not good deals. Say you get 5 bucks off two meals but you have to drive to Timbuktu to get there and spend $10 in gas. Ummm, so not smart.

I’m just not a coupon gal…sorry I’m not. I’d rather do without, until or unless I can afford.

Right now I’m cutting back and eating at home because I spend too much eating out. Rather than spend what 17 bucks for subsandwiches last night, I went to Publix and bought what I needed. I had a taste for that. Granted I spent a couple of dollars more but I had for dinner, again for lunch and probably another sandwich tonight :)

Lady – Exactly. Usually there’s always something in it off the top for the merchant. Folks ain’t just liking patrons like that…ut uh And if you’re running left and right all the time in the name of “free” or “cheap”, usually on the back end of that, you’re taking a hit.

At $80.00 bucks a tank, I’m not spending my gas going to Timbuktu just to save $2.00

Celisea

My sister runs all over towns at the janky grocery stores to save a few cents off when really I head to Publix and do what I gotta. First I save on gas going to what’s close, then quality is number one for me. Next, it’s only a few cents…how much did she drive out driving all over town? The money she would have spent (and more) at Publix. Then Publix ALWAYS ALWAYS have buy one get one free….always

Not to mention samples and good quality service.

That’s just me though and what humbly works for me :) Oh, and I’m not saying behind her back. I tell her the same.

Or, they spend the entire time we are out moaning about how much stuff costs! You knew what the prices were, or at least a range, before you came! If not within your means, stay home! Or you got the money, but it wasn’t some place YOU wanted to go. If it was somewhere YOU wanted, the prices would be just fine!

Kimmie – I’m with you there too on saving time and hassle. My mama says you pay for what you get. So if it’s good service and conducive to your time and scheduled and quality service that works for you, then a little extra in currency can go much further in quality.

That’s like buying cheap shoes to save a couple of nickles only to end up with corns and bad feet and surgery to get them fixed…lol. Pay the extra and keep your feet in good condition!
