Ex Files: Rebounding necessary?

According to entertainment reports, singer Rihanna has become a moth to Chris Brown’s flame. Apparently, the two collaborated on two songs and he was even spotted at her birthday bash.

Reading about their reunion made me think about those exes that we can’t get out of our system. It is tough when we should be moving on but are too hung up on someone. Maybe the only way to nudge you along is to find a new person right away.

People often take time after break ups to heal or to regroup, but maybe some of us could actually benefit from a love-life palate cleanser. Someone to distract us from dwelling on the recent break up and prevent us from sliding back to a bad habit or toxic relationship.

I think I have had some of my best dates with guys who were the rebounders – because I welcomed the attention and just appreciated the company. There was no pressure to move things along to the next level, so the only goal was to laugh and have fun.

When you are dating someone new, do you ever ask when their latest relationship ended?

Do you want to know if you are the first post-break up/divorce date? Would it change how you perceived their potential?

Happy Friday!

Well, I’m a hugh proponent of rebounding..You see, my break-up with Jennifer was sad…I loved her so much…….Boing…..I rebounded straight into Paula…That break-up was traumatic…I loved her so…Boing… Then I rebounded straight into Monica….That break-up was disastrous….I loved her so much………..Boing….Then I rebounded again into……Can’t tell that story….The Mrs. reads this board…But I tell you sports fans, rebounding is necessary….So I say,. keep on rebounding…..

Good early morning,

I’m not looking forward to the rain today…

Yes I ask dudes I date when their last relationship was, how long it lasted, what happened to lead to the end of that courtship etc. It’s natural to be cautious if you find the other person has RECENTLY broken up from their previous r’ship. We all know how that back and forth thing can be as well as the ‘rebound’ deal goes. Rebounding serves as a distraction of the recent events as well as offers a quick ego stroke…basically a short pacifier to the hurt/confusion or whatever that lead to the break up. So if i haven’t been dating and I meet a guy that I am excited about getting to know, it would dim the light of curiosity to know i’m the first chick he’s dating since his relationship ended. The timing is just not lined up right because while he’s looking for bandaid, good time, distraction, I’d be looking for something more stable.

I thought I was going to have a few flings/rebounds/etc. after my divorce. Wound up meeting, dating, and falling in love with the perfect woman for me.

We just got engaged Wednesday. Sometimes happiness just jumps up and smacks you in the mouth when you least expect it. The moral of the story, don’t go into anything with any expectations, just let happen whatever is destined to happen.

Uhn uhn, I have no desire to use somebody as I rebound from a failed relationship. If I’m broken hearted I will lick my wounds and heal before I start in another relation with lady. Just not right for a new lady to help me heal I’m not sliding back, I don’t need that. I sure some may need instant comfort and if you do I aint mad at you. When a lady tells me it’s over she’s done with me, I’ll try to get her back but if she says no that’s what that means to me.

How ironic! I received a text last night at 9:48 saying “I want to talk to u about US getting back together” from a guy I dated many moons ago. We are in contact with quick “hellos” and ” have a great day” type of communication, but we haven’t dated each other in years. First and foremost, a phone call would have sat better with me. But, we are living in the age where everything is text and little seems to be left to actual phone calls. Anyway, it ain’t happening…

When you are dating someone new, do you ever ask when their latest relationship ended? – I sure do.

Do you want to know if you are the first post-break up/divorce date? Would it change how you perceived their potential? – Most definitely. This is why one should ask. Depending on how soon after the demise of the relationship will let you know if you’re possibly the rebound chick/dude.

On topic, this is a situation that is almost unavoidable.

For someone to move on from one relationship to another, there almost has to be that rebound person that feels the sting of their heartbreak.

Thing is, can the rebounder recognize what is happening before the reboundee? When you’re the reboundee and done caught fillins, its a bad experience. If you’re the rebounder, you should be more aware of that.

For us serial monogomists, being the rebounder is a familiar position, so it’s part of that ‘learning from your experiences’ thing.

Morning,

I don’t like being used to get over. It happens, I know. Everyone should be considerate of the other person. Yes, you should tell exactly where you are when coming out of a relationship. I’d venture to say you owe it to the other person to let them decide. But hey, we know more than likely that’s not going to happen…if you can’t, then that tells a lot.

Frankly I’d rather pass.

In the past, when a relationship ended, I kind of went buck wild! With the end of my previous long term relationship, I chose to stay celebate for a while and with the end of the recent one, I’m doing the same. It’s definitely not a good idea to rebound. Maybe some innocent flirtation with someone, but I myself know that I’m not ready to jump into anything. I have to do some work on myself.

Morning All!

Hate the rebound mess all the way around. Hated being the rebounder and the reboundee. If you want to hang out & get your mind off things, that’s what friends are for, the platonic buddys and also the FWB’s if you want to go there. But getting in a “relationship” on the rebound is just asking for trouble. It’s kinda like a nice buzz. When you are initially in it, it feels great and dulls your pain. But once it wears off, you hit rock bottom again. Not fun.

Congrats KS, much happiness to you both!

Leggs – Did you watch Greys & PP last night? Girl, Jake had me swooning at the end when he told ole ho Addison she wasn’t ready for what he had to offer! Girl, if I were her, I would get over tired Sam & his issues REAL QUICK and GET READY!!!

“Thing is, can the rebounder recognize what is happening before the reboundee?” – I think (s)he can. They know where their emotions are at that point, and they also know how much they can give to a relationship. A rebounder knows he’s rebounding. He’s not going in for the jump shot blindfolded. Please believe!

@kimmie ~ yes ma’am…front and center. I kept yelling at the tv, yousa ho, yousa ho, you can’t handle a real relationship, TRICK! And, Loretta Devine needs to win an award for her portrayal of one in the throes of Alzeheimer’s. Great acting.

What do uall mean by ‘heal’ from a relationship,? Blackfoote? As a dude what kind of healing dp u go thru or u need for that matter..?

I guess a part of the question to All genders is ‘do u fall in luv with the first person u date?’ necessarily?

I would think even after a break up with somebody u didn’t like anymore or who didn’t want u anymore,u still have to live and breath. So u go out and meet people, some funny etc and fun to be around, others, not so much… so u jinx and jive ..if a one night is warranted,u grab it,if not u leave it alone…All along, living life!

What’s this crap then about ”Healing?’ all because a chic u supposedly ‘loved’ benched U or u benched her?

If it’s an ex and we meet and it seems there is electricity between u,guys take one for the road and KIM…I’ll feel even better!

Congrats, KaiserSoze! I got divorced early last year, so your story gives me hope. Dating someone new right now (NO, not the first one after the divorce!) so maybe…

Celisea

MMeello – I think the difference is there are some folks that already know what they’re going to do or not. Everybody knows if you’re the kind of person that can jump back in and keep it real. Everybody knows if you’re the kind that need to lay on a few warm bodies. Everybody knows if just how much that person meant, to what degree and whether or not it was something way deep (needing much time), or someone that you could live without anyway (not needing much time).

No you don’t know exactly when you reach the point of “over it” but you know if your interaction with the next person will be something that lean towards favorable or not.

Well…for me, healing means picking up the pieces and preparing to move on. It’s really not fair to a new person if you are “using” them to get over someone else. I have some flirting going on with someone out of state and maybe by the time he comes back to Atlanta, I’ll be in a better position to really give it a go. For now, the flirting is helping to boost me back up, but I can’t lean on him to take all my pain away…

I’ve always felt that certain types really do equate abuse to love. I think this because I know women that go from one abusive relationship to another – like if their man isn’t busting their head he doesn’t care about them. I know women that outside of their abusive relationship are pretty darned tough. always fighting in the streets but letting some little nothing at home beat them down. I operate on the premise of “first time shame on you, second time shame on me”. you might hit me once (and though it’s been threatened it’s never happened) but by no means am I going to stick around and become battered. nope. battered women have never been on my charity list. another no-no for me. I can’t stand when folks ask me to donate money to support the families of the troops. I’m like the troops have jobs!!! and thereby they have allotments. if the wives of the troops aren’t doing right then shame on them.

Morning All,
Just curious to know how you can be the reboundee in an actual relationship. I understand the rebounder wanting to get over the hump and yada yadda yadda. Does the reboundee not do any due dilligence during the dating phase? Are you not paying attention to actions/words that would indicate whether the other person is coming from a place of hurt. I may be biased but for me to enter into a realtionship I am really crossing t’s and dotting i’s along with due dilligence like a mug. At that point it really is on me whether I want to disregard what i see/hear and try anyway. I really don’t get it.

It’s funny the general consensus is, if folks want to move into another relatioship or “friendship”, due diligence surrounding wanting to know and understand is the norm. That’s been the norm…asking and poking around for the answers you need. Ultimately you’re the one that’s going to have to live with the outcome if it’s not good.

My rebound ended up being the man I’m going to marry. I think it happened that way because I started dating him without any expectations. I simply did it for fun and didn’t care about trying to impress him. He, too, had just gotten out of a serious relationship. So we both approached our dating really casually. A couple of months into our relationship we realized what we had together. A relationship that was as effortless as you could get; not perfect but pretty damn close. Niether of us tried too hard in the beginning because neither of us had any expectations. You never know when the love of you life will enter your life… I can’t wait to marry him now!

Topic – I am a big proponent of accountability. I dont deal in that victim mentality. Sure there are times where a person can hoodwink or deceive you but for the most part your personal set of blinders enabled the situation. The learning part comes in not blaming the rebounder but you as the reboundee paying attention to all the sign that were right there staring you in the face.

Breakfast – I grew up at my Grandma’s hip. We were ace boons, frick and frack, chef/sous chef. Breakfast was were it was at. She would always cook grits always. She would always have whatever meat from the previous nites dinner and maybe sausage or bacon. The first major lesson in cooking i had was learning how to cook an over-easy egg for her. If it was done right she would eat it if not then I would eat it. The days she ate my eggs I was on cloud 999999.

Victim mentality..women do that All the time.

I hope Lady and uall other ladies who stepped into a FWB relationship, even unwittingly won’t consider urselves ‘victims’. How can u be a victim if u have the power to extricate urself?

It’s kinda like the situation that our buddy,Bluz is in. She finds that dude can’t commit so it’s only natural if u don’t like it,to move away. If u stay,u are not a victim..used or any if those terms.

U used each other.

I think that some should certainly do away with their exes. Especially, if the person was harmed emotionally, physically or monetarily – what’s the point. Even if all participants change, are we really going to let go of relationship scars. I just can’t see it happening without lots of effort on both parts and complete forgiveness to move forward.

Getting your mind of an ex with break-up “fun” (sex right?)…I’ve never seen that work for any of my friends (for getting over love).

Personally, I would never ask about a recent relationship. She wouldn’t be with me if there wasn’t reason and I don’t care about her ex. I’d find it intrusive if a woman asked me such a question about my GFs. Why would she ask any such thing on the first couple of dates? It’s none of her business and I could care less about her’s unless it’s about diseases. Sounds like a bunch of jealous and insecurity on whomever’s part asking.

I like break-up “fun” (sex)! Nothing like getting drunk, losing some inhibitions and making some bad decisions with a new interest. I love rebound girls…they’re the best. Moreover, for the exact reasons Diva stated – no pressure, laughing, a good time and “fun” (sex).

The last thing I would want to talk about post divorce/break-up would be to talk about the break-up. That’s what a therapist is for or you’re closest friends. What a turn off to her some woman complain or whine about their ex. I would honestly say, ‘Miss you’re not over your ex and I’m not a therapist. Go take some time to adjust and give me a call when you’re ready.’ Everytime I’ve done that the woman calls back at some point and thanks me for my honesty. The we usually have break-up “fun”… :)

my gas rant…

I spend $40 a day on fuel usually. My truck sucks gas and I use that to commute. My sports or super-cars get no better than an average of 11 mpg in the city and only use premium with an additive. If our fuel reaches $5 dollars a gallon I’ll be driving a Z06 daily. I can get up to 35mpg on the highway cruising @ 80mph. My problem is trying to not floor whatever I drive…

In my super-cars, I can literally watch the gauge drop with acceleration and prolonged speed. I’ve emptied tanks on the highway in 45minutes or less.

My saving grace is that I have lots of BP and APA stock and they are on the rise.

You can also buy a code reset for $80 at most auto stores. If you have emissions soon and want the easy way out – undo the battery for 20 minutes by the emissions station – then your computer will reset – no codes until +/- 50 miles.

HST, why Florida? South Georgia, Northern Georgia and other mid parts of Georgia does not require emissions. Also which expensive cars do you have that would not pass emissions in Georgia which has the most lax emission testing in the United States? If it is an old expensive car emissions should not be a problem as they are not required to test and if it is “modern” it should pass. ITL SeaFoam is a nice product but you need to know a few things.

If/when you do use it, make sure you replace your:
Fuel filter (if used in fuel tank) – All that junk unclogging in your fuel tank will clog up your filter
Spark plugs – It can/will foul your spark plugs
Oil/oil filter (if used in crank case) – Common sense.. You don’t want that stuff staying in there forever
o2 sensors may be soon to come. It fouled mine pretty badly.

A few other things you might want to take note of:

Seafoam removes carbon buildup from valves. On older higher mileage engines this may be a bad thing because the carbon buildup helps engine compression.
Do NOT let your engine suck in the Seafoam. Pour it in slowly yourself. If you let the car suck it in and let it stall itself it may hydrolock.
change your oil and clean your plugs immediately following the treatment. Also keep an eye on your O2 sensor, as all that crap blowing through the exhaust can foul it.

I have a UR Gallardo as well and it will pass emissions. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 40, it just throws codes…it’s a Ford. For my insurance, I have to keep my cars at my residences with registration to cover all the extras. I have never seen a 40 that can be a DD that rides on 1800whp (or any car for that matter). Heffner is part of the dick measuring contest as are most builders. My 40 is tuned to run in all conditions and safely. I know more about tuning than 95% of the guys who do it for a living. I’ve been tuning for over 10 years with stand alone ECUs and a WBo2. When computers became compatible with ECUs around 2004 I was really into tuning. Now, I just want to have time to drive them.

Purple, I have never had those problems with Sea-Foam unless it was a German car. Besides you can just put it in your oil, drive to the shop and get your oil changed. That way you skip spewing crap out your exhaust and those associated problems.

My buddy put it in his intake and it completely make a cloud that covered his house and the neighbors. Horrible for the environment and lots of carbons for inhalation…I’ll pass.

HST 3:14? Huh?

You probably did not have any of those problems because you take good care of your cars internals anyone who has a lot of carbon buildup will get that smoke flowing as it cleans.

Leggs, that is too funny because it just happened to me. Normally, I drive my cars like less than 3k a year except my truck which I DD. My GF had to tell me the other day I needed new wipers. I’ve never owned a car or drove it enough (much less in the rain) to need to replace windshield wipers. I too was like WOW what a difference!

@HST ~ last week it was reported we were going to get a lot of rain. The struggle I was experiencing on 285 at night scared me. I went home and pulled out the windex washing inside and out, but relalized it still wasn’t clear. Then “replace the wipers” popped in my mind. When I pulled the old ones off I was amazed, the rubber was torn on both wipers.
