Attraction: Who gets our attention? Time?

I read somewhere that the type of woman that gets a man’s attention is not always the same type that gets his time. I have witnessed men gawk at the sexy vixen who is turning heads, but is that the type he will end up with though?

I know I can notice a edgy guy who looks like he is a total heart breaker, but would I actually take that type seriously? Probably not! This makes me wonder if we ever really know for sure when the type of attraction we have to people is the kind that will last longer than 72 hours.

When you consider the type of person who makes you sit up and take notice, do you think that person is someone you could actually be around?

Should we trust our initial attraction to pick the person we should pursue?

How do you decide who gets your time after they get attention?

Any handsome man can warrant a head turn or two but handsome versus quality can be far removed. What really “catches my eye/get my attention/turns my head”, is a good man. What are looks if he’s worth about a nickle?

When it comes to the heart breakers Foxy thinks you should play with it, but don’t take it home. :)

I have been the dating route for many years and tried dating the smoking hotties and on down. Nothing is as exciting and easy on the eyes as a gorgeous woman that takes care of herself. The problems arise when she is aware of her appearance so much that she knows she can have most any man (at the very least for a night) and take him for a “test drive”. She also knows that if things don’t fit her “standards” perfectly, she can discard him and take the next in line. And there will be MANY in line. I still love to gaze at the jaw droppers, but also know that they sure are a lot of dang trouble…..MOST of the time.

My girlfrind now is not what you would call a head turner, but she is kind, smart as a whip, thoughtful and makes me think that SHE is the one that wants to keep ME. That is something that cannot be replaced buy anything. I can still look…..but that’s all I do is look. I’ll take what I have right now when it comes for investing my time and energy. JMO

Good Morning!

Interesting topic………this guy recently got my attention after several attempts with smiling and dancing silly around me. I didn’t notice him for a while but then realized he was truly checking me out so he finally got my attention and asked me to dance and we have been dancing these past three weeks and its been good times.

How do you decide who gets your time after they get attention? Of course what i just described has happened before but currently their is an eagerness to learn more about each other and as I mentioned earlier about this particular guy he likes talking on the phone and just loves to talk period. He has been very forthcoming and respectful. a total gentleman. he is of good quality and loves family and has a lively spirit. Very attentive and when we are out I am his center of attention and may I add he has yet to make me feel uncomfortable interacting. I think what has warrant more time with him is he is just as passionate as I am and very smart. I guess the moral of this meet and greet is never judge a book by its cover and may I add he is very easy on the eyes I just took him to be something he’s not. He is really a good guy and we are going dancing again for VDay and doing a couple of upcoming concerts……he is very take-aroundable!

Looks are skin deep, give me a girl that I can take on a date. If I can lay her the first night, that means another guy can do the same thing. I judge a woman’s worth to the standards she holds herself to. If she goes after players, not worth my time. If I have to work for her, then she is probably going to be worth it, and I am not talking about dancing and buying her a bunch of drinks. If she is a head turner and has guys all over her all the time, it’s not worth the hassle.

Good Morning all….

Ok, I guess today is going to be filled with tales of all the boys and girls speaking on how they always take substance over style, But each and everyone one of us knows should be jumping up and down to call BULLSH** on that!!! We all ant to think and say that we make better chocies than to pick the “empty suited Head Turner” But we don’t… If she is Vixon enough, and fine enough, and appears to be game, 8 out of 10 dudes will go out of their way to holla at her…And ladies… That 6′4 Boris Kodjo type will get to the front of the line and have every opportunity to make his case over the more sincere guy that rates as a “7″….If we are gonna have this conversation, at least be honest….

Morning,

I love a very attractive woman but for me its all about how she displays herself. Conversation is the tell for me. I’ve learned through trial by error to never judge at first appearence but at the same time I don’t want to have an eyegasm before we have a simple conversation.

Now with that said, If I had Amber Rose standing next to Nia Long I would chose Nia all day! I wonder if Nia is married?

Oh, I know everyone will come out and say what they are SUPPOSED to say (substance over looks, etc….yawn), but if a Halle Berry or Brad Pitt lookalike showed up next to an average looking Sue or John, there is no doubt who is going to get the nod. Those of you saying “They aren’t worth the hassle” or “I’ll take a (pause for it….) good hearted man/woman any day or night.: clearly think that you aren’t ABLE to fit the bill.

@David ~ very nice post (both of them).

Since I don’t know the quality of the person right off the bat, what catches my attention is a nicely dressed, clean smelling, man. Can be dressed in jeans or pants and shirt, but nice. Don’t like the long shorts, droopy pants look. After I get past his appearance, I’ll then concentrate what he has to say and how he says it.

Morning All!

Leggs, I think your post pretty much sums it up. Of course, outward appearance is going to be what attracts you initially because you don’t know that person yet. There are some that have lost me the minute they opened their mouths though! And just because a dude does not look like Boris Kodjoe does not automatically mean he’s going to be more “sincere” than more attractive guy. He could still be an ugly jerk. And it’s not fair to assume the Boris guy is not going to be sincere just because he gets the attention he does.

It’s real simple. People spend time and attention on what they want. If they don’t want you, you will get neither, or very little.

Good afternoon all. I’m late but I’m here. first things first – I had to comment on the comment “if I can lay her the first night someone else can too”. this is a general consensus among men but I really don’t think it’s true. sure it might be true when dealing with dingbats who don’t know there worth but hey – maybe, just maybe – the chick picked the guy up and not the other way around. maybe she smiled in your face for the evening just to get some from you. just a thought.

joe – I was feeling you on calling BS until you tossed boris kodjoe in the mix. in my opinion the only thing he has going for him is height and quite frankly it’s not enough.

Her aunt layed out her dress she was going to wear and Whitney got in the tube. 30 minutes later she came back and Whitney had passed. I discovered recently that I have lower back pain issues, probably from lifting stuff I had no business lifting. The dr prescribed some muscle relaxers and 2 pain killers. I took 2 of the prescription painkillers, but I decided to try other remedies, like stretching and other exercises. I don’t want to get hooked on any medications. My remedies are working too!

I think we as a society need to quit celebrating the lives of people who were morally bankrupt…black or white. Bill Clinton can walk into any room and be praised yet he is a total scumbag. Steve Jobs is deified yet was an absent father. Same with john lennon. Michael Jordan is a God yet he was a pathetic family man. Same with Whitney and a lot of others that we spend days talking about and obsessing over.

We should laud and praise the lives of those who passed who lived honorably. We should focus on the a persons moral fiber first and foremost and focus less on the great things they did.

Soccer MILF — Hate to break it to you, but if you disqualified politicians for getting some strange, there wouldn’t be many left in either party. Ditto for corporate executives, athletes — basically anyone with money and/or fame and/or power. There are some exceptions, of course, but those are the exceptions, not the rule. Bottom line, while you might not want to be married to these guys, their sexual escapades really have very little to do with their ability or reliability with regard to their jobs. Two totally different worlds.

Soccer MILF

February 13th, 2012

Im swiss…I agree with you in the numbers but I also think our society tends to celebrate a lot of morally bankrupt people. Whats the difference between Whitney and those people we villify for not being good parents? Money and a voice.

Soccer MILF

February 13th, 2012
5:46 pm

Also, Its not about wanting to be married to these people…its about celebrating people who are substandard in terms of integrity.

I was having a conversation over the weekend about this topic and MLK came up. My view is that Rosa Parks is a much better face of the civil rights movement because she had nothing to gain other then her integrity and self respect by her actions. A lot of civil rights leaders had power to gain…just like politicians today.

It may be a fantasy to think that America should celebrate integrity but I will practice it. Its why I will never vote for people like newt or the likes.

February 13th, 2012

Just out of curiosity, what exactly do you think that MLK had to gain, other than equal rights for blacks and a big target on his back?

Soccer MILF

February 13th, 2012
6:07 pm

He was the most powerful black manin America during that tie and according to Ralph David Abernathys biography gained a lot fo extra marital attention. What does jesse Jackson today have to gain from being involved in civil rights?

i'm swiss

February 13th, 2012
6:13 pm

And… what did being the most powerful black man in America at the time get him, exactly? The power to vote? The power to attend the same schools as whites? The power to drink from the same water fountain? I hope you aren’t suggesting his interest in civil rights was all a ruse to get some. There are much easier ways to get laid, I can assure you.

I guess my point is that none of us are perfect. There is good and bad in all of us, and to classify someone as “morally bankrupt” for his/her mistakes, while completely ignoring the good that he/she may have done is pretty short-sighted, IMO.

Soccer MILF

February 13th, 2012
6:17 pm

My point is we tend to celebrate people who are morally bankrupt. My definition of morally bankrupt is someone who does not put their family first. Whitney Houston having drugs addictions and kids at the same time equals putting family behind driugs.

As far as MLK I am not saying he entered the movement to get tail. I am saying he did things that i would not expect from a minister. To me we as a society to should place the highest emphasis family. it would cure a lot of ails. Joe Patenro is my mind did a lot of great things like you say but I think what he did wrong should stand at a higher significance if only to send a re minder to all that some things are undeniably inexcusable.

i'm swiss

Interesting… How about fat people with kids? Are they morally bankrupt, as well? They eat their way to poor health and an early grave, much like drug users. Even worse, how about fat people with fat kids?

Soccer MILF

So you are equating overeating to crack?

Soccer MILF

February 13th, 2012

Fast food does not prevent you from parenting properly….crack tends to make you a litttle out of it.

i'm swiss

February 13th, 2012
6:26 pm

Well, if it results in a parent not being healthy enough — or alive — to take care of their kids, what’s the difference? Even worse, as I said, if the parents are transferring those same unhealthy eating habits to their kids, isn’t that putting food ahead of family?

Soccer MILF

February 13th, 2012
6:28 pm

Again…I can eat aa whopper and sit down and read with my kids. I cannot smoke a crack pipe and do anything with my kids. If I only fed my kids mcdonalds then I am probably a poor parent who does not put my kids health in high regard. But there is quite a large difference between doing things that cut down life expectancy for our kids then doing something that basically takes us completely out of the equation in terms of raising them.

Soccer MILF

im Swiss…did you think that Joe Paterno deserved the firing in disgrace that he received?

i'm swiss

February 13th, 2012

You’re assuming that drugs “take [people] completely out of the equation” overnight, and that’s not necessarily the case. In fact, most addicts develop over time, and many are very much “functional” addicts for a long time. Not saying that’s a good thing, but the distinctions you draw may not be as great as you imagine.

As for Paterno, based on what I’ve read of the case, yes, I agree that he deserved to be fired, but I don’t think he’s “morally bankrupt” as you might say. I think he made a grave mistake and he and many others suffered for it. I also think he was a positive influence on a lot of people.

Very few things are totally black & white. Mostly, we’re all shades of grey.

One Soccer MILF, it’s apparent you know nothimg about GOD. The most rank sinner can utter a honest sincere prayer of repentance at death’s door and can be accepted into God’s glorious kingdom. You might want to worry about your walk. I can tell you this, if you’re measuring by your standards of good vs evil you just might not measure your ownself. I see lives in the media but I don’t what transpires between the Almighty and people so I’ve learned to refrain from placing anybody anywhere….heaven or hell. No she didn’t the purest life and yes she struggled with demons. But who doesn’t?

Soccer MILF

February 13th, 2012
6:41 pm

I agree with you on Paterno. I think paterno should have been fired in disgrace despite his long history of good deeds to set an example that some things are more important. then those deeds. Somethings are just too important that we cannot overlook them.

For me anyway, putting family behind drugs or affairs is one fo those things. Can these people be redeemed? Sure but my point originally is we tribute a woman who smoke cak while raising kids. We had people crying for Michael jackson when at the very least he was a drugged up person with three children.

Tony Saprano is a fictional character and no this fictional character was not a good person in terms of being a family man.
