Dating: Scoring extra points?

Congratulations to the New York Giants! What a game that was, right? I am soo going to miss football though. So much so that you will have to humor me with this “game” themed post today.

If dating is a game, then who is keeping score? When it comes to sizing each other up, single people sure know how to assign extra points for the most random things.

For instance, I know a woman who agreed to go out with a guy because his car’s license plate was supporting Breast Cancer. I met a guy last night who asked a woman out because she mentioned that she was a gymnast in college. I know, random! (Also, blatant wishful thinking)

Apparently we meet and scrutinize one another because we believe that little things can add up to a lot. So what seemingly small thing are you impressed by? What is the most random reason you decided to ask someone out or agree to date someone?

Do you think that people meet you and give you “extra” points about something you do or say? Spill it!

Happy Monday!

Leggs – REALLY? Wow, I have yet to meet someone else who knows the spot i’m talking about. My sister and I try to go whenever she is in town and I have been to their new location. My heart almost sank when I drove all the way from Conyers to go there and realized they were closed. I did a little digging and found out they had just moved. I wonder why they changed locations.

@SlimNU ~ when it comes to pizza, I know the good spots (lol). I was to meet my friend at the Avondale Cafe (the old spot) a few months back. She telephones me to tell they closed down and I was sad so we met at Fellini’s (downtown Decatur). On our way back home, we’re driving by a sign that said Avondale Cafe so we stop in. Had a beer and reminisced about their old location. I was glad to see they just moved across the street to a much bigger place. I was told they wanted to expand and they couldn’t in their old spot. I really hope they survive.

I have the weirdest thing to happen to me…not often but here and there. I’ll get a tickle in my right nostril, just below the bridge and usually sneeze about every 10 minutes. This lasts like 2 or 3 hours. Sometimes it happens in my sleep. I can feel the tickle but at night I’ll sneeze until I’m congested.

Leggs – I’ve never heard of that pizza spot, The Pizzeria. If it’s better than AC, I might have to take a drive one sunny afternoon lol

Weirdisms – I can’t think of any from me other than, I always tend to just take one shoe off at work, or take off only ONE sock if I go to bed with them on. I also tear any piece of gum in half and chew that half. That goes for bubble gum and chewing gum. I can wiggle my ears and my nose without touching them. That’s about it, that I can think of at the moment

Leggs – It seems everyone is sick. My co-worker was out the last few days with bronchitis. Then my boss that was here all last week from PA ended up getting sick Thursday night. By the time he made it back to PA, he had a high fever and ended up in the ER. Every time I hear someone cough, I hold my breath for as long as I can until those germs dissipate

@SlimNu ~ a guy from New Jersey opened The Pizzeria, then sold it. The pizza changed just a little, but that stuffed pizza with sauce on the sideas a dipping sauce is delicious. I’ve been going there for many, many years. It’s in the Kroger shopping center where The Velvet Room and Big Lots is located.

Take some Airborne and it will quickly chase that cold away. A couple of tablets for a few days usually does the trick.

Slim – They were talking about guys that pick a fight around Valentines so they can get out of buying you something. I’ve heard of guys doing that around Christmas too. But my take on that is this – if you pick a fight, stay gone! No coming back after the holidays. Because if we are in a long-term relationship, even if we are mad at each other I expect a gift! For example, if hubs & I had a disagreement around Christmas, so what? I still better have a gift under that tree, just like I would have one for him.

So yeah, if ya gone, stay gone!

SlimNu

February 6th, 2012
3:17 pm

kimmie – I’m there with ya on that one. Plus, to me a gift does not have to be expensive. If it’s prepared with a lot of thought or something special and specific to me, then that’s what matter. If that fool went to the dollar store and got me a few fake roses and attached to each the things he loved about me, that would touch my heart. Or he put together a picnic in the comfort of his living room floor with a sub from publix & some sparkling cider, I would appreciate the thought. I don’t always have to have the big money gifts.

kimmie - the original :)

February 6th, 2012

Slim – Yep, it’s the thought, not the money. I expect the thought, even if we’re mad at each other!

disco

as much as I’d like to side with the ladies on GP I can’t 100%. I mean I could trip if I didn’t get a gift (lol) but I’m the type if I’m mad at you, I’m mad at you and boy oh boy you don’t want me mad at you. if I’m mad at you then you can’t use my bathroom, you can’t have a drink of water, you bet not ask me to give you some. just pull back until I’m done being mad.

kimmie - the original :)

February 6th, 2012
3:36 pm

Slim – The only thing that comes to mind is that some women have made it hard for the rest of us by not being appreciative or expecting champagne from a guy that’s on a beer budget. That’s all I can come up with. I never understood the complete anxiety some have, though!

kimmie - the original :)

February 6th, 2012
3:41 pm

disco – I get where you are coming from, but if I feel you are just picking a fight so you can get out of something, then stay gone. In fact, that right there would make me mad! It’s easier, and you’ll win a lot more points with me if you are straight with me. I’ve actually had guys level with me that money is short right now so I can’t do anything big, but could swing me a beautiful card or one flower. Last Vday, hubs & I had just gotten engaged that Christmas and he told me he was paying off the ring so lets not do anything big for Vday, especially with my birthday being in January too. I’m fine with all that. Just don’t play me for a fool.

disco

February 6th, 2012
3:42 pm

kimmie – I don’t think the anxiety comes from previous women so much as from other men. I think they hear all the jokes and get ribbed about being whipped and sprung and having their noses wide open. I think that’s part of why they get all defensive when it comes to the affectionate side of gift giving.

Celisea

Ditto on folks that disappear all because you’re too cheap and believe you’re slick enough to pull a David Copperfield. I’m just irked that you thought you could it pull it off. You disappear at birthday and holidays, please stay gone.

Hell, you disappear period, special occasion or no, stay the hell gone. There’s a side of me that’s really trying to become more and more evolved and in touch with my humane side but I don’t have much tolerance for those kinds of shenanigans. I’d respect you more if you asked to get a pass on not getting a gift. If you could just disappear until the hoopla has passed. I can respect more so for honesty. Just know though that I’ll be sure to tell you to turn the lock and leave the key when you leave….but at least we talked.

I’m more insulted than anything if a dude tries to pull that off and comes back with nothing in hand and no apology in mouth. The mean side of me ain’t letting it pass…still don’t insult acting like nothing.

Afternoon, folks.

I don’t have any scientific studies to back this up, but I’d venture to say that dudes that pull the pre-holiday break-up trick aren’t suffering from gift anxiety on holidays. They just don’t value the chick enough to put the effort and/or $$ into coming up with a gift.

Slim – I don’t know specifically and I can’t and don’t speak for all Dudes. But, I will say V-day is tuff on a lot of dudes. The expectations and general un-appreciateness of the average chick make it hard even on dudes that get it right. Look at the numbers. A good dude will at least do the average (candy, flowers, dinner, etc). A New dude might just ask cause he don’t wanna screw it up. A playa will just skip it all together and deal with the fall out. A real good Dude will either get you something that he’s paid attention to during convo or do something special that means alot to YOU. A keeper will have you sweating about what to give or do for him just cause you already smiling every day. At that point a nice card and some QT (as always) will suffice. IMO.

And, that’s the bottom line swiss. You’re right, they don’t value the chick enough. That’s the only way to look at it, not that they can’t afford a gift, but more than likely, you aint as high on the totem pole as you may think.
