Dating: Scoring extra points?

Congratulations to the New York Giants! What a game that was, right? I am soo going to miss football though. So much so that you will have to humor me with this “game” themed post today.

If dating is a game, then who is keeping score? When it comes to sizing each other up, single people sure know how to assign extra points for the most random things.

For instance, I know a woman who agreed to go out with a guy because his car’s license plate was supporting Breast Cancer. I met a guy last night who asked a woman out because she mentioned that she was a gymnast in college. I know, random! (Also, blatant wishful thinking)

Apparently we meet and scrutinize one another because we believe that little things can add up to a lot. So what seemingly small thing are you impressed by? What is the most random reason you decided to ask someone out or agree to date someone?

Do you think that people meet you and give you “extra” points about something you do or say? Spill it!

Happy Monday!

I’m tired! Yawwwn! Good Morning!

I give extra points for a clean house or the ability to keep a clean house. I give points for nice looking feet. Actually the feet are a must have! I don’t like the gang affiliated feet. Check back in with ya’ll later.

Do you think that people meet you and give you “extra” points about something you do or say? Possibly.
Do people go on a date because of something you do or say? NO
It is a lot easier to say “I agreed to go out with a guy because his car’s license plate was supporting Breast Cancer” than to say “I went out with a guy because he is hot.
The Breast Cancer reason and other similar reasons are an excuse so that the truth does not have to be spoken.

Good morning…..thoroughly enjoyed the game last night and learned a few more things about football.

If dating is a game, who’s keeping score – both parties are. So much is watched and not spoken on for quite some time. It’s those unspoken thoughts that further determine if one wants to continue to pursue or cut their losses.

I think it’s a noble cause, supporting breast cancer, but probably not the only reason to go out.

Extra points…After two conversations with this guy, I recently got extra points for my degree and possible level of contacts. I quickly realized that’s ALL he wanted to talk about in the hopes of me helping him promote his business. I quickly became disengaged because it was apparent he didn’t want to get to know me on a more personal level.

gang affiliated feet? now that’s deep. still, we all know there are some rough looking feet out there. too early in the morning for the visual though. eww. I’m reminded of the girlfriends episode (yeah everything reminds me of tv or movies) when joan went out with a guy because they both had costco memberships. I don’t know if you’d call that extra points or just plain desperation. and – good morning.

Good morning,

Ummmm, on topic….ummm okay. I typically go out because I’m attracted to a person. I’m not “into” stuff and things and accomplishments (so much so) that it scores a date. I have to like you and hopefully you just naturally like me. Finding out about other little one offs hopefully just adds to a good impression.

I think in terms of “the little things” though, for me that’s either stuff, issues, items, nuances that’s going to have me deeper engage or add up for getting you X’ed. I try to hold my tongue when things are new but if stuff that irritate or irks me add up and I see the tone getting set and going to the left, then I’m going to tell you so you’re not taken by surprised. Too, you should know what you’re doing or not that’s causing me angst. I’m not one for walking off into the sunset and you have no clue. Just how I’d want someone to do me.

another way of looking at this extra points thing is to consider the “on paper” scorecard. I have things on my checklist and I suppose technically you could say a guy gets a point for meeting the specs on the checklist. I suppose there could be extra points if he exceeds the specs. for instance I would like a guy that’s well read which is actually easier said than done. I know/meet a lot of guys who have very little interest in reading outside of the sports page and barbershop magazines. if I met one who actually read that would be a point in his favor and if he happened to read the same type books that I read or something that I was willing to read then that would be an extra point.

girl I’m just happy that somebody is happy and excited. it just demonstrates that it’s possible and I need that. good for you. ooh. I like the former cop thing and I like the UPS thing. good, good. wow – amelie’s!!! you had a date this weekend. (I won’t whine about how I was off dating myself on Saturday). what do you mean – other than that you did nothing – GIRL YOU HAD A DATE. Saturday was my highlight: zumba and the movies. after that I had nothing (other than fantasizing about nate parker’s lips). may go to zumba tonight. I have got a one month pass and I intend to get my money’s worth out of it. let me know if you want to go. I know the weeknights might not work for you but they have a class Saturday morning at 10:30.

Good morning,

I shole thought about calling in today, late night. Extra points would be the person being thoughtful, remembering things that I said I was interested in, manners, making sure I get home okay, wanting to know about ME, etc

Morning Gang!

We didn’t watch the game, but I did see the halftime show, which I enjoyed, but I’ve always loved Madonna anyway. Good job, and I know it was spectacular if you were in the stadium. I know it looked really good on our big screen.

On topic – I don’t know about points, but yes, something different like an interesting hobby or other facinating quirk will peak my interest.

Off topic – We caught a couple of movies this weekend and why oh why did I cry all the way through “Fix Me Jesus” song my Queen Latifah during the movie Joyful Noise…lol What is wrong with me??? No seriously, I cry at movies sooo easily. Not only do I cry, I’m screaming, jumping, yelling or laughing loud. I always say I hope no bootlegger is trying to record…lol

Joyful Noise – A bit past “okay”

Good Morning All,

For me, dating isn’t a game, it’s serious business. You’re either the type I fux wit or you’re not. If I am attracted to you, I’ll talk to you, get to know you a little better; but if I like you, I’ll then date you.

@Exiled! I agree… it has been my experience that when I dated foreign women or world travelers, I didn’t have to limit my conversational scope as much.

It is nice when someone brings a little more than just “the usual” to the table and stands out from the crowd. Someone well-traveled, has cool “quirks”, even if you don’t end up dating them, they can be cool to have as a friend. It’s nice to get out of your comfort zone and loosen up a bit, branch out.

” “extra” points about something you do or say? ”

Whenever I meet someone new I am always looking for something extra as a sign of maturity. For example I love a woman who can hold a decent conversation without being disturbed (cell phone ringing, text messages, IPads, girl friends knocking on the door, etc.) as well as setting other boundaries regarding how she values her time especially if she sets this time aside as quality time just for me. She will get major “brownie points” for taking control of her life.

exiled – and I don’t do the internet dating thing so no one out there for me to arrange to meet. heck, my hope/goal is to meet someone while I’m out there exploring. I’ll probably be in Atlanta soon though just because I always have so much fun when I’m there and right now I’m overdue on some fun. I’ve got some designated drivers down there that usually show me a real good time. and not that you brought up the missing women but I appreciate it. trust me – I’m way careful.

mr. nyc – a group of folks I know did the cabin thing at Gatlinburg last month. they had so much fun that they are going back again later this month. I’m invited but I’m not really feeling that trip.
