Single? You have the right to be jolly!

Hello single people out there! I know this is official couples season. It’s the time of year when people are getting engaged, taking vacations together, and behaving like lovesick teens. It’s sweet! It’s endearing. It’s also …absolutely annoying to see at times.

Don’t get me wrong, I love romance and watching people fall in love. What I don’t like is getting the pity looks, sympathetic stares, and “your time will come” spiels from the smug and coupled up. Just because it is couples season doesn’t mean I have to be depressed about not being in a relationship! I have the right to be jolly!

If you are determined to make it through the next couple of weeks, you are going to need a game plan. Where will you go? What will you do? Where can you go to avoid the holiday madness?

Do you ever feel down about being single this time of year?

If you are single right now, how do you maintain your holiday cheer?

What is the best part of being unattached during the holidays?

I will be seeing my adult children and they will be visitng me also. Family is a constant, women ae the variables. Somewhat like Dude, I am okay being alone and need some Randyt time anyway.

New Year’s can be painful…or maybe a better word is “reflective”, because that is when one tends to reflect on hits, misses, and “near misses” …and maybe wonder if the ones that showed so much promise this year are doing the do with some other lucky gent. I am invited to several single’s type NY parties with long time friends and will probably hit a few of those. Pretty good chance that I might run into some old “flameouts” at those and that is always interesting.

I agree with you Randy on the new years thing, but I seldom think about women with other gents, there really is no time in my life to reflect on others from the past, I wish most of them the best. I do hate not having someone to kiss on new years, been that way a few years and it sucks.

Good Morning!!! Friday is tomorrow! ;)

Do you ever feel down about being single this time of year? After my divorce I did but over time I adjusted well and rock and roll with the ups and downs of the holiday season. Being single isn’t a major pain around these times. I find value in my child, close family members, some good friends, and sorors.

If you are single right now, how do you maintain your holiday cheer? I look @ the bright side. Things could be worse. I have come to appreciate my “me time” more and whenever I want to mix n mingle with holiday cheer i do and it is not forced or fake.

What is the best part of being unattached during the holidays? Not being accountable for another person or a schedule per se…….Free as a bird!

Dude I am with you on the games too! I have many different circle of friends and the sports makes things all the better around these times! I truly love sports so again this isn’t a forced area with me and December sports are fun between college rivals and anticipating the Super Bowl. Like tonight I am pondering hitting the Dome for game or hitting Dugans and hang out with my crew. So with being single I love my options I create……….

Jones and White need to step up big time, they are costing us games by all the drops, it’s embarassing, if Nate Washington can hold on to the ball with a hit like this, White and Jones should at least be able to catch it.

Dude

Ryan is a great QB, but it is only in this year they have changed the offense style, we did have the style of pound it in with Mike the burner Turner, and then that will open the passing game, which was great when we did short passes. Now we are trying and trying for the explosive long plays and not making them, either because of an over throw by Ryan, a drop by a wide out, or for what ever reason. Not everyone has the hands of Tony, he is the man, and will always be the man!!!

Good morning!

If you are single right now, how do you maintain your holiday cheer? It’s all about appreciation. I appreciate where I am in life and where I came from. My holiday cheer is relishing my family and my friends and just being thankful. I don’t get caught up in the commercialism of the holiday. Honoring Jesus Christ is what it’s all about.

The best part about being single at holiday time is when I wake up in the morning and caN plan the whole day to suit myself that is the best time. As far as getting those “pity looks” I have to admit when I see some of those married couples and think they are stuck with each other, how much worse can it get? I’ve been there and done thnat.
I hope I have not shown too hard an edge, I focus on the sewason in which I just might make someones day a little happier.

Morning All!!

Randyt – I hate New Years! It’s always sad to me, whatever state my life is in. It’s sad seeing the decorations go down and hearing Old Lang Syne. Coming down from all the hype of the holidays has always been hard for me! :(

I like what Leggs said about being thankful. I’ve never been one of the smug boo’d-ups around the holidays. When I was not boo’d and now even after, I center my holidays around connecting with family and friends, especially those I’ve fallen off of calling or seeing regularly thru out the year. That focus keeps me from becoming depressed and I’m able to truly enjoy the holidays.

Stop bootlegging Mary, on the Falcons particularly Roddy…his problem has been psychological, how would you feel if you caught over a 100 passes last year and they gave up the draft to get another WR, it took him some time to get over the ego trip. IMO

I think Roddy is great, he needs to talk a lot less smack, but as a football player he is great, I don’t know why he can’t hold on to the ball. Jones is great as well, he also just needs to catch the ball. I love the Falcons, but our biggest problems are our secondary and our recievers catching the ball when it is thrown to them. Matt Ryan isn’t good at the big explosive plays, that isn’t his playing style, the offensive coordinators need to look at how we play and what works the best. Falcons last year controlled the ball and ran a lot, and we went 13-3, now we are trying the explosive plays, our QB isn’t getting the protection to get the receivers out there, when they are there, they drop the ball. White is a great player, but he still needs to step up, we aren’t throwing to him as much as last year and he still leads the entire NFL with dropped passes. That is embarassing.

Good morning,

Live happy…always. It shouldn’t be centered around having a man or woman. Really, whether you’re single, “booed up” (sorry ya’ll) or married live and be happy. The older I get, for those things or people that become draining and complicated…good riddance. And NO, that’s not for the guy giving the warm fuzzies :)

As far as folks giving you the pitiful look (on the outside looking in and assuming your situation is the worst), WHO CARES? Really? Only you know what it takes to make you happy, if you’re getting fed the happys and if it’s making your world rock, ROCK ON!! One thing about me, I could care less how anyone views my life or me for that matter. And I’m definitely not going to explain.

Diva…girl quit “watching folks fall in love” (again outside looking in), I believe more often that not what you’re seeing and what’s projected ain’t always what’s really going on. I only say that because you can be envious of situations and what not and they could very well be wishing to swap places with you.

Alright…got a luncheon today, work to finish cause I’m out on vacation next week… :) :) I’m excited!!

It is wonderful time of year to look back and say thank you. So, I looked around my house to find things I’d started and hadn’t finished, so I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of Chardonnay, a bodle of Baileys, a butle of wum, tha mainder of Valiuminun scriptins, an a box a chocletz. Yu haf no idr how fablus I feel rite now. Sned this to all who need inner piss. An telum u luvum. Wuv U gies!

If you are determined to make it through the next couple of weeks, you are going to need a game plan.
Seriously??? A game plan for what? You’re putting WAY too much on this.

Do you ever feel down about being single this time of year?
No, because the holidays have nothing to do with being coupled up. The holidays are a time to appreciate your blessings and share those with important people in your life. If you allow your relationship to define your holidays, then you should do some serious self-reflecting.

Celisea

Dreams – How are you?

I’m with you…it’s like the holdiays can’t be the holidays if you ain’t booed up. Diva you got it backwards girlie. I think a SO or potential can maybe enhance the good times but not having one definitely won’t take away from blessings, family, time together, reflection….the whole of it.

Dreams/Celisea – Some people put too much pressure on themselves to be all Hallmark-card coupled-up and such around the holidays. The holidays are not supposed to be centered around that. It can be the icing, but not the whole cake.

Plus, I mentioned on here before, having a SO in your life for special times, vacations and such, is only good if things are going well with the 2 of you, at least IMO. I remember taking a bf on a family vacation with me and being miserable. I would have had a much better time leaving him at home and just hanging with my family. Same with the holidays. Being coupled up just to say you got somebody can be more trouble than it’s worth.

In thinking about New Years…I have to say that it is what we all make it to be. One can choose to be with family, with friends (assuming one has friends), or be alone. I’ve done all three and being alone watching Dick Clark is a real drag…but a drag that is SELF-INFLICTED.

Okay, maybe you didn’t get 50 invitations by 50 hotties (gender neutral), then start making backup plans right dayum now…and if possible make them with someone (same sex) that will probably be alone too so you aren’t alone. Being alone is a choice and not forced on anyone in the ATL…and usually the wrong one on New Years. Get on line and see what venues have something going…and make those backup plans.

Leggs – I wouldn’t think it’s just a southern thing. I just think, like everything else, they’ve gone up quite a bit since we were high school seniors. I remember them covering cap & gown and other expenses and they were not much. One of my friends, though, has a senior and what she told me blew me away. Though I know a big part of her expenses are going to her son’s class ring. That’s an expense that can be controlled, but she’s over-the-top and wants him to have major bling.

Senior dues cover the graduation but why not march across the stage, get your diploma, shake hands, turn tassel to other side of cap and at the end of the ceremony toss your hat in the air and call it a day (lol).

Anyway, back to regular scheduled session on being jolly around the holidays. As long as no jolly, fat arse drunken man bother me, I am good (lol).

a friend of mine just had twins graduate high school in 2011. that chick started crying the blues about this time last year and just stopped crying a few months ago. I ran across my son’s overpriced yearbook last weekend. think it was about $75. the boy didn’t even value it enough to take it with him when he left.

@Just remembered this. In cafe this morning, a regular from the credit union is at the counter. He tips his hat and winks. Nothing unusual there. I was talking with another coworker so when he walks by he asks me to stop in the back where he eats his breakfast with others. He says he just wanted to tell me how nice I look in my dress. I say thank you and pivot to walk away. He says “today is my last day here until the new year and I would love to speak with you over the holidays. Can I have your number?” Ummmm,  Hell no he didn’t. I sit down and look him square in the his eys saying aren’t you a married man of 30+ years? You should be shamed. He laughs and says “thought I try, but I knew you wouldn’t bite.” Foolish man and disrespectful to his wife (no I don’t know her, thank goodness).

I despise PDAs no matter what time of year. I see more disruption of family units this time of year than the rest. If you’re young enough and haven’t been jaded by loved ones or family, maybe it is fun to celebrate a Pagan holiday. I take great delight in avoiding all family during the holidays.

As far as pity looks or feeling left out…HA! I’m laughing at everyone else – stretching their credit, buying things they can’t afford, arguments, whining kids, pretending, fighting for gifts, last minute shoppers, Christians celebrating a Pagan holiday all with a helping of domestic violence – for falling into the biggest marketing scheme by Capitalists.

I shop when it’s convenient to take advantage of sales but for the most part where I shop sales don’t exist. I’ll make it through this Pagan Holiday by doing what I always do…whatever the f*(k I want.

I plan on lots of debauchery, avoiding my family as much as possible, going to my mountain house to snowboard, buying things (I always do that though) and driving my cars.

If you read my post, do I really have to explain why I’m happy during this time of year? It’s great being single…

Coincidentally, I first found out from a guy on the train this morning. Seems as if he knows someone who is familiar with her. Said that she was just seen hanging out at the park across the street from the train station. I got the impression that she had crackhead tendencies. I wonder if it was the lady I saw walking barefoot yesterday morning in 40 degree weather.

@ SlimNu, I’ve been working with a personal trainer for about three weeks now. There is a defintie gap between when I would be tempted to stop, and his. I’ve been taking it slow to offset the bad habits of travel for the last three years, so trying to build up gradually again. Very intimidating though when some dude walks up in front of me, takes a 60 pound dumbell in each hand and starts doing curls with both like they are made of paper. I wasn’t that good when I was good.

Do want to tone a bunch before pool season, and was told today I might have to go out to Orange County Cali and put out a ‘fire’ brewing there. Little different from Northern England and would feel better if I could easily see my toes and belt again.

I still remember getting turned on to molasses bread. that was good eating.

I don’t see how you even allow your crib to be that bad.

disco – Yeah, those lunch ladies & gents would be cooking! Like a lot of kids, we wanted what we couldn’t have though. We always thought it was cool to bring your lunch and would beg our mom to let us. Sometimes she would and we would be on top of the world.

Since yesterday, I have been trying to come up with a dollar figure that would equal a satisfactory work/life balance and a great deal of control of my schedule/workflow as an employee. So far, no luck.

What say you? Can a dollar amount be attached to that or is it something that could literally be considered priceless?

There’s one lady here where (shamefully) I inquired as to what she brought…even if store bought not eating from her. She is soooo nasty. She’s an older lady so I don’t mean to sound mean but she stinks like nobody’s business. She’s got to get a bath maybe once a week. There’s a funk behind her in the restroom that’s unbearable. Not as in nature calling but as in exposing your bottom that’s not been washed. Gheesh. It takes a couple of hours for the bathroom to clear out after her. Same with the kitchen, she’s eating out of stuff and using utensils and place back in the drainer. So needless to say I’m RUNNING the other way on anything she brings. Most times though it’s cooked food. Last year that concoction she brought was unrecognizable. I was like “what the heck is that” and sh3e was all proud talking how she made it. Ummm, I was like oh okay, wow thanks for sharing… :| It looked like mess really. Anywho I was careful as usual. If Imma have a tummy ache or upset stomach it would be from where folks’ got bugs and stuff or the dogs took a lick ahead of me taking a bite…lol

With the good news of no longer working with the ballplayers I’ve probably laughed more times since finding out than I have in almost two years. Folks are looking at me as if they didn’t know that was something I could do. I had a coworker on the phone (that knows the cockiness) that just had me rolling…OMGosh I haven’t laughed this hard in a long time. Whew I had to step away.

@ Celisea…I was leading a contract job once that had a lot of foreign engineers. There was one female engineer of one of thsoe middle eastern cultures that either did not bather or did not use deodorant or something. She was an excellent engineer, but dayum, if one was working within two or three cubes from her you could start gagging. Another lady I was workng with at an automotive factory, got on a garlic kick for her health. If you happened to be on the other side of an open bin or something from her, it would knock you down. Eat enough garlic and it begins to exude from one’s pores…and she was one of those.

Celisea/Randy I’m thinking that at those prices, it’s no longer about the quality of the cooch, but more about discretion. Whoever can afford 10k coochie probably doesn’t want it getting out that they indulge like that. There’s a saying, “You don’t pay a hoe to f*&ck, you pay her to leave.”
