Should courting make a comeback?

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, people. Apparently, that thing single people do with each other is not courting. You can blame it on friends with benefits, hooking up on the first date, and technology. These are a few of the things that get in the way of good old fashioned courting.

I was at a taping of a new show, Verses and Flow, that is going to be airing soon, hosted by Hill Harper. I was chatting with a photographer who was an older gentleman. He mentioned that his son should have been there to meet a nice lady. He said he has tried to show his son that courting a woman is still necessary.

I began to think about the last couple of times I met a guy and how he asked me out. How we communicated and how things got started. Things have changed since the days of courting, but so much else has too. Should courting make a comeback? Is there room for courting? Are there benefits to it?

What do you think the difference is between courting and dating? Or is there really a difference at all?

Yeah just cause you can’t “bring it” and frequently strike out, it’s then all women’s fault! None of them are “ladies” and not worth being treated well. Whine, whine, whine! Look in the mirror buddy! The one common denominator in all of YOUR relationships is YOU!

The moistness in here sometimes requires an umbrella!LOL!!

The act of courting is still alive and well… People who are still complaining about this subject is because they’re accepting less than what they’re saying they’re worth. also note this: if you’re dealing with less on one hand with… say with a fun buddy, you can’t expect to be afforded courting gestures from a new suitor on the other. You have make yourself COMPLETELY available to one person and one person only to deserve courting treatment. Drop that loser (the one you’re just using for sex) and allow the winner to fill that void… y’all know what I’m talking about.

@Aunt Smokey ~ no disrespect, but reading you I think of In Living Color Kim Wyans talking about Ms. Jenkins and even Moms Mabley with her quick wit. Not saying you is old, just liking your straight from the hip style.

WOW! “good intentions and a dime won’t even get you a cup of coffee” Yes, it will. Good people, with good souls and a good heart can sit down with a beautiful caring man or woman and start a convo/perhaps even a relationship.

Imworthit sounds like materialism is everything to her. I always tended to avoid people who revel in the temporal. I think she’s worth ignoring, personally.

This is interesting, got a few quick comments.

Jeff is right, men will court if they had to, but the whores outnumber the ladies by far, simple supply and demand, women are quick to spread them now because she thinks that will keep him around and she knows he has options.

Courting, smorting. Who you kiddin’. Microwave popcorn, Movies on demand, FB, Twitter in today’s society who waits for anything.
Well, don’t expect dating/courting to be any different. Interaction between Men and Women can’t happen in a vacuum exclusive of the pressures from society at large.
Courting is a process and folk just don’t have the motivation to initiate and negotiate
a process today.

I have to admit, though, that I don’t do Fridays/Chilis/Applebees either, unless there’s just no place else to go. It really isn’t very good, in fact, it really isn’t very clean. Wind up in an Applebee’s in some small town someplace, count the dirty tables — they far outnumber the clean ones. I shudder to think of what the kitchen must look like.

Speaking of which, we ducked into what must be the last 3 Dollar Cafe a couple weekends ago, just because it was right there, over on Roswell Rd. Mistake! Talk about unclean and bad food. Yuck.

The best steaks in the Atlanta metro come off the grill on my back deck. Seriously. Hal’s does well with it though, down in Buckhead, and isn’t too high — maybe $40-50 a plate for a decent filet or ribeye.

I’ve been driving practical commuter cars for a long time, and considered luxury cars to be a stupid investment. Lately I’ve been shopping though — now, I’m not a Porsche kind of guy (Boxsters just suck, and I’m still not willing to spend over $100K on a dang car) — but, E350, 535i, GS350, these cars are a downright pleasure to drive. I’ve been commuting so long that I think I forgot what it’s like to actually enjoy driving.

Oooh, Yuengling. Yum! I discovered it in Jax when we were there for the Cocktail Party one year. They didn’t sell it in Georgia at the time, so I was always getting friends from NC and FL to smuggle it in. I wondered when they started selling it here if it would taste as good, since it was no longer forbidden bootleg fruit. Yup. It does. Just as good.

On topic:

I don’t think courting is a thing of the past. IMO courting is the natural outcome of what you project. If it’s FWB, sex on first date, type actions you live by, I wouldn’t imagine you would expect more than that. If it’s a standard that you are and live by, I would see more so a willingness and buy-in into what you’re selling/projecting.
