Dating: Do you ask about their finances?

What would you do if the person you are dating are showing signs of financial instability? Maybe you notice their lack of frugality or their excessive spending. Or maybe you are with them when their credit card was declined.

I read somewhere about a young woman who was on a first date with a guy and his card was declined. She didn’t judge him by this incident and they are now married. If she dumped him because of this embarrassing snafu, she could have thrown away her chance of happiness!

So what is the best approach in paying attention to your date’s money management? Is it something you should inquire about? If you notice something awry, do you bring it up?

Do you (or should you) ask about a person’s financial plan when you are dating? Should you wait until you are in a relationship to bring it up or would that be too late?

How important is it to date someone who is smart about money?

Just curious: What would you do if you went on a date and their credit card was declined?

Willie – You are a smart man!!! Gosh, I wish my husband would give me money for shoes!!

But you know what? He’s an Amazon freak! There is not a week that goes by that Amazon does not deliver something to the house. Maybe if I see some I like I can ask him to order for me on his Amazon Prime account(free shipping!) Yeah, that’s what I’ll do!

But of course that’s what I would do, Fion.

The only thing, besides not being totally irresponsible with money, that stops me from buying more shoes are my feet. They are flat and I have a troublesome bunion on one of them! That keeps me out of a lot of styles. :(

Fion – exactly, what dude in his right mind would dismiss those leggs over her screaming Goal after a TD. Grocery store playa hunh. You still have to ask the right questions. My favorite – excuse me, whats the difference in a cucumber and a zuchinni (while holding both). Gotta get them smiling and then talking is all i’m saying.

Kimmie – not fair, smart but thats premeditated

I do know a goal from a touchdown. Once they kick the ball over the goal is how they get the 7th point for the touchdown…something like that. Pls don’t laugh at me.

Laughing out loud at the image of WD in Publix with a cucumber and a zucchini… I bet it works more often than not, too. Men with a good sense of humor always move to the head of the class.

Ok…Grocery store pimping 101…” Wow the (insert seasonal fruit/ veggie) looks great/ bad today…It always gets a response and leads to a chance to flash a little cooking knowledge…If she is gonna be receptive to anything, this will get her… Its not to forward, its conversational, and gives both parties plenty of openings if there is a spark…. :)

Late to the party…

On topic…I will notice a person’s financial situation if it moves past the first date. Is this fair, probably not because I’ve seen the times when I had to use my Sam’s membership to eat the free samples or not have lunch. During those times I hoped that any perspective partner would see past the current and see that there is a difference between down times and deadbeats. That said, I know I cannot be someone’s sugar daddy to bail them out of a situation that they may or may not have contributed to. I have dropped a lady in the past when I realized she had some issues regarding money that made me wonder about her character…and how much of her feelings were real and how much were “needing financial assistance”. I won’t lie, I really wanted some “things” from her, but kicked her to the curb rather than use her before some things were ‘consumated’ (still think about that some…the “what might have been” if I had just stayed for a few dates).

Re shoes, I looked down a couple of hours ago and realized my heel si coming off my casual Johnston and Murphy two tones. Dayum, where is the rubber cement when you need it. Saw where Sarah Jessica Parker is going to have a line of Minolas she is designing. Now how many people from Hawkins County Tennessee would get the significance of that???…long way from the hills now ;-)

ITL — Wait, wait, time out. Donovan McNabb? I don’t mean to be a hater or anything, but are you mixing fantasy football w/ fantasy bone? ‘Cos unless you need passing yards, adding him to your list makes it look kind of like one of those SAT “which of the following does not belong?” questions.

@ Willie D…so you have trolled the Publix too? Seriously, the best pickup opportunities come wayyyyyyyyyyyy outside the bars. supermarkets are great because you get a chance, as a man, to show some depth…and you get to see those wonderful ladies in their natural habitat…UMMMMM. (Although is important if you are a super couponer to relegate that to really late nights when prime fishing time is over ;-)
