Wanted: Housewife in Atlanta

A friend of mine just got engaged and her fiance asked her to work on ending her career. She loves him very much but said that she is having a hard time wrapping her mind around the concept of housewife.

She fears her existence will become about shopping and domestic work. Clearly her idea of housewife is a bit distorted. I wondered why being a housewife seems so unappealing to women today?

Although my mother was a career woman, she seemed to enjoy caring for the family and my Dad. The thought of being a stay at home Mom or housewife sounds pretty awesome to me, personally. I believe there can be joy found in having a career or being a housewife.

What do you think of the idea of a woman leaving her career to please her husband? Is it unfair for men to want a housewife?

Guys, would you ever ask or want your wife to leave her job or career? What if she really enjoyed working?

No, I don’t Ex. I don’t get rattled easily. Don’t fret. I’m cool as a cucumber. I was saying “oh boy” for you asking what “God bless the child that has his own” mean. The sentence itself is self-explanatory.

So having said that, would u be okay with taking an allowance from hubby if it came to one of u having to stay at home to make sure the kids are str8 or y’all(u and hubby) believe in the family but that u both must contribute financially?

If you understand English, you should understand the sentence.

I don’t believe that, Ex. You’re a smart man. If you can understand all that engineering/accounting crap, you should be able to decipher the meaning of the saying. Again, the operative word is “should.” I guess I stand corrected. Cool!

Exiled – Even though it would be the same in theory I guess, I hate the word allowance, even in the text of money you give to kids. My thought process is that everyone contributes in their own way to the household, even the kids with chores and they sometimes get a little money from us since they cannot make money other ways. They learn how to save for the little things they want.

With that being said, I would love to be able to be a SAHM. Hubby would not have a problem with me, the person that I am, doing it if he could easily afford it. I say “the person that I am” because I have other hobbies and interests I could pursue at home. This would keep me the interesting, intellectually curious, creative person that I am now that holds my husbands’ interest. My husband likes smart, creative women that can hold an interesting conversation. All positives that are bound to rub off on the children too.

To give you an example of how that little side money my grandmother had came in handy – there were times my mother came home from college on Xmas or spring break and granddad would get a little onry and say she might not be able to go back cause he was tired of writing those expensive college checks! My mom would cry and worry. Grandmama would pull her to the side & tell her not to worry and that she’d be sure she got the money to go back and finish school!

I understand the literal meaning,I actually did English Literature at my ‘A’ studies.

In my mind tho,I was thinking there was some connotative meaning to the words.

(thinking in Shona while reading an English proverb/saying etc)

That’s what got me mixed up

I wouldn’t mind having the opportunity to focus on my projects/efforts to produce another stream of income and my creative projects that I have going on when I’m off the plantation.

No stockings/pantyhose here…it’s gotta be extremely cold with boots. Usually I’m sporting sexy socks (you KNOW they make all kinds now). One Christmas a couple of coworkers gave me socks from Nordstrom and Dillards. I LOVE sporting socks…in the winter. I had a chick to tell me she’d never see before (with nice skirts) until me and “how cute.” :) Of course with flats. I’ll be bare leg for a minute though.

Oh, I was tryna hold it but I found the cutest pair of Ferragamo’s a couple of weekends ago…dirt cheap. I’M WEARING TODAY….I’ll be wearing some sexy sheer socks with these come winter.

That was for all the blog shoe-holics. I know they understand.

sassy, not only do you have to ASK for the condiment, but then they wanna know how many you need. and you better check the bag before you pull outta there.

That’s what I do. I am a ketcup fiend and not having the amount I ask for can be an issue. How the heck do you order cheeseburgers and fries and they give you one ketchup and two napkins.

Since I’m cold natured, I have on stockings and pants. Heck, I may wear a turtleneck tomorrow. I kid, I kid….

True that cz…it’s like they get offended cause you’re checking your bag. I guess it’s an assault on their drive thru/reading & comprehension skills…I’on know but I feel like I’d rather check my isht now cause if I have to come back then that’s a whole other can and depending on my day that ain’t good.

Leggs – I wear cute tights all winter. As soon as humanly possible, I go strictly sandal though. It’s been a few years since I wore pantyhose. I know they are old school, but I’m not totally opposed to them. I will wear super-super sheer black ones with a black suit or dress and fierce shoes. I actually would like some with the seam up the back or some fishnets.

@SassyMe ~ a very long time ago, I went to Burger King on my way to the airport. Got on 20 and pulled out my cheeseburger…would you believe I only had 2 buns. Celisea all I know is when it comes to shoes/boots I’m glad I’m the only person I have to shop for cause that way I can get what I want when I want to. Even then, I won’t spend a enormous amount of $$$ on a pair just cause I can…it’ll have to be a very, very special circumstance like a birthday/anniversary/some monumental life moment or I’m out of town and see a pair I just gotta have.

Sassy – I was saying (in my missing post) that I’m with you on the shoes/boots thing. It’s a preference over buying clothes…lol I will go decent for both me and the kid but I will not break the bank. My mom always said sacrifice for a good pair of shoes and that I will do. Now, I’m not going to drop half a mortgage payment on a pair but you’re right, every now and again there’s a special occasion that comes along to justify treating one’s self to an out of the normal range pair.
