Dating: Culture clash or match?
A lot of people that I know like to date people who are most compatible with them. Whether it is socioeconomic class, race, or even culture. Culture can be especially tricky in the African American community. Well, technically I can only attest to the African American culture personally, but still.
It was a totally different experience dating a guy who came from money (aka silver spoons) and dating someone who grew up extremely poor. Although I shared common ground with both, the dynamics were definitely different. Not saying good or bad, just…different.
Silver spoons and I clashed on politics, while the guy who grew up poor thought I was way over the top with how I lived (i.e. we had different lifestyles, tastes, etc.)
When it comes to dating, are you comfortable exploring a relationship with someone who has a different culture than you?
How would you handle the “clashes” that may come when there are different socioeconomic classes involved?
How important do you think it is when considering a long term relationship? Does it make it easier when you both have the exact same background?

Aren’t those guys forfeiting there money for speaking out their case against Eddie Long. I thought I heard them say the money didn’t matter to them they want tell the story anyway. They have plenty of heart to walk away from the money, good for them. Every dollar is not a good dollar.

Blackfoote, Eddie Long did not rape them they had a relationship with him knowingly. Dumb asses are walking away from money now…just so they can be heard? PR and BF, I’ll respectfully disagree with your statement. According to their statements, he “groomed” them by acting as a male role model, some of them even called him daddy. He gave them the male figure in their lives that was lacking, and gave them the lifestyle and material things that their mothers were unable to.
That is classic predatory behavior.

PR, again I will respectfully disagree. This is not a sexuality issue, although I’m certain that these guys will question theirs for many years to come. It’s about a child (I believe one was 14 when the grooming began, but 17 or 18 before anything “physical happened) being groomed by a predator.

I think they are more so upset because they feel he abused his position/power etc to take advantage of them knowing their backgrounds (no fathers, male guidance etc) Or maybe they are just really teed off by something that has yet to be revealed.

Okay, the owner of the Carolina Panther’s has implied to Cam Newton that tattoo’s and piercing are off limits. Me personally I see nothing wrong with that, some are making it out to be a racial slave owner mentality. But look at if from this point of view. Cam is probably going to be the face of the franchise. So if you owned a multi million dollar business payed an employee 22million would you care how they “appeared” while working, given that this person was the “face” of your company?

@PR ~ I saw nothing wrong with what happened between Newton and the CP’s owner. He was telling him going forward no tattoo’s and no piercing. A compliment on the haircut was just that, a compliment! Come, I thought it was all very appropriate w/o one iota of condescension.

Re: Cam Newton…I know that if my company requests that I dress, manicure, etc., a certain way, no gauged ears, or lip piercings, I have the right to refuse. Then they have the right to fire my azz. Neither is a slave, but one has more power. I’d rather be rich with shorter hair, than poor with longer hair. Ultimately my choice.

I think the reason Cam is one of the few players who does not have tats or piercings or dreads is because his parents raised him that way. The guy is a clean cut man from all appearances, so the owner of the team probably didn’t have anything to worry about anyway.
