How loyal are you?

Recently, I read a joke that men can rationalize cheating on their woman and sleep fine at night, yet somehow can feel guilty going to a different barber.

Although it was a joke, I thought that men really can view loyalty different in the context of a relationship. What role does loyalty have in relationships, though?

Is loyalty important to you? I ask because loyalty is something we say matters but our actions often prove otherwise. How close is love and loyalty, in your opinion?

How and when do you decide to be loyal to someone? Is it after they have shown themselves to be reliable and trustworthy? What happens when they mess up? Do you stop being loyal forever?

Who would you say is more loyal, men or women? Is it even fair to compare since we show our loyalty in different ways?

…as I’ve come to learn from men who don’t mind cheating, cheating is no different than say… cheating on your diet. For me…Sex is sex. Just like a meal, it’s great when I get a really delicious meal, but when I’m really hungry…mmmmmm…especially if I’m starving!!! Why, I just might eat anything!

Sex, eating, same thing. Though true too, it’s all the better when you love the food you eat, and of course when it’s healthy good food that loves you back!

Beverly,

First you need plausible deniability.

The only time you can rationalize cheating is when your wife is dying of cancer.

I could always rationalize cheating by pointing to the fact that my wife was never home. However, I should point out that this excuse doesn’t fly with some women.

Nope, SimpleM, they’re still here.

Loyalty is very important. However, I have come to notice that certain men have no problem cheating and rationalize it in various ways. No matter how you slice it, cheating is cheating and the fact that you can sleep peacefully at night only dictates to me that you have no soul or respect for your partner!!!

Good Monday Morning All even the trolls….

Leggs – you have a point…some people think cheating keeps the main relationship healthy. Not I said the cat. If cheating or infidelity is discovered, it really throws a monkey wrench into the mix. It shakes the boundaries of trust and makes whatever existed before very unstable, not to mention is causes all kinda hurt & pain to the person you claim to love.

Morning folks,

Is it even fair to compare since we show our loyalty in different ways?

While some women/men have convinced themselves otherwise, love and loyalty are synonymous. There’s only one way to show loyalty and that’s to be and remain loyal. A person is lying to themselves to say they love their SO but cheat. Lie. IMO the statement taken from Diva’s post just enable folks to cheat if we continue with enabling by the statment/logic. There isn’t a loyalty for men and a separate one for women. Practicing decorum and restraint and discipline is not gender specific.

Celisea – This sums it up for me. Otherwise, this is just making excuses for folks bad behavior.

I think loyalty goes beyond just not cheating on a person. It’s truly having each other’s back and standing by them. Keeping your personal, family issues personal and out of the street.

Oh good morning all!

Get it together folks you know cheating isn’t right. We humans have animal instincts, and it’s hard for some to show restraint. Today are we being famous cheaters?

@Celisea ~ you’re absolutely right. Love and loyalty are synonymous. I was at the mall yesterday and a woman to my side was beaming. I noticed her wedding ring, but she looked so young to be married. She said she was 29 and has been married for 8 years. She said “I love being married, and I love my husband!” It was extremely refreshing to hear that. After I finished eating, I walked up to their table to tell the husband what his wife had said to me. He too was beaming and echoed how much he loved being married to HER. They definitely complemented each other. We chatted a little longer about relationships, fwbs, and how some men seem to forget how to “court” their woman. Very nice couple.

Now, once that foundation of trust and respect has a fissure in it, rebounding is going to be very, very difficult. When a man disrespects a woman by sleeping with another, it cuts to her core. No doubt men feel the same way too, but although the dynamics are changing, I still think men cheat more than women.

“How and when do you decide to be loyal to someone?”

Loyalty is derived out of Love. Before you are Loyal you must Love first. It is impossible to love someone you don’t admire, respect and honor.
If you can’t do those things how could you ever be Loyal to that person.
