What about your dating reputation?

It can be hard to pull off a “blind date” these days. Once you get the person’s full name, you can usually do a little recon on them. Whether it is through mutual friends (six degrees of separation feels like .5 degrees in Atlanta sometimes!) – or a quick Internet search, your reputation can easily be tracked.

This is especially true when you are a raging jerk with anger issues, a conceited, narcissistic moron, or my personal favorite married but still looking chump. If you have a laundry list of romantic crimes, eventually it may ruin your chances with someone you actually like.

I used to wonder if the singles who treated people so horribly would ever have to answer for all those dating misadventures. Do they ever think about or care about their dating reputation?

Have you ever done a google search for your name to see if something unfavorable pops up? Do you ever worry about your romantic past haunting your future?

If you had to guess, what kind of dating reputation do you think you have?

Would you ever date someone who had a bad dating reputation?

I have been divorced (I filed both times) twice and am very hesitant and telling someone that. I usually just say that I am divorced and have two children from it. I rarely just openly say I have been divorced twice. Maybe I’m making more out of this than I should, but…..

I couldn’t care less about what people think about me. I have a few skeletons in my closet and I’m not gonna exactly wait until I get married to jump them. I am what I am. I’m fun, happy and have a lot of friends. I have no problems getting asked out on the weekends and many of them have wanted to go exclusive. So if you want to play the check list game and go 007 with your recon, go to it.

@slim, the first one, she did whatever she felt like she had to do to get married and then everything just stopped. We went to couceling a year and a half after we got married (she walked out of two different couselors) when they told her things she didn’t want to hear. She just did her own thing, paid no attention to intimacy or together time. She just wanted to be married and felt after that, the race was over.

The second time, we just came to a point in the relationship where we were at to different junctions in life. She was 5 years older than me, her kids were out of the house, I had a 10 and 14 year old, she wanted to travel all the time and I couldn’t because of my commitment to my children, we just had differences that gradually drew us apart. It was a no contest divorce and we are still friends.

meant to say WHAT, not Why….

Regarding the topic, folks can google me all day long. It’s not like you’re going to find nekkid pics of me roaming around. Plus, what could really be out on the net regarding folks I’ve dated in the past? As far as skeletons go, don’t have very many of those that I would say i’m embarrassed or ashamed of. Thank Goodness!

I know it’s easy to be outside looking in on someone else’s situation…but with the second marriage taking place 5 years after dating, was your commitment to your kids not an issue with her, PRE-Nuptials?

It wasn’t an issue because she still had her older kids living with us. at the time we got married, mine were 6 and 11. Hers were 15, 17 and 19. Five years later, hers had moved out of the house. She began traveling a lot on her own with long weekend trips, some longer and I couldn’t go on 80% of them because either my kids were coming to see me or financially, because I was paying child support and didn’t have the extra cash to get airline tickets and travel expenses. All of mine were going to bills and I had a little left over for local stuff. She just wanted to travel a lot.

Yeppers and the dude was married. Get this, the phone number that he called me from WAS IN HIS WIFE’S NAME!!!!! What a dummy. I patiently waited until he contacted me and boy did I tell him how trifling I thought he was

Funny how all the casanovas are the ones always paired up, while the singles (?) are trying to teach singles how to do what? …stay single?
Nothing means nothing til you got somethin’… and there’s somethin’ out here for everyone – REGARDLESS of this so-called rep. Just takes knowing yourself to love others. Got that from the casanovas… you know…the ones who got someone! ;-)

@slim. At this point, probably not. I kinda have a bad attitude towards the establishment right now. Kinda along the lines of “If you hate to be alone, don’t ever get married” and “Getting married is like deciding that your’ve played with this grenade long enough and you decide to pull the pin.”

Something like that……

I mean, I date a lot of people and wouldn’t mind having a steady, but something happens for some reason or another, when that ring gets put on that finger. Scares the hell outta me right now, to be perfectly honest.

Morning All!

Hey Slim,Celisea,Fion, other visitors! Happy pre-holiday weekend to you all!!!

Well, your past can come back to haunt you. Other than basics, like whether or not one is married or a fugitive, I don’t know about the excessive CSI on folks. How did we get to know people before Google? People want things instantly and don’t want to do their due diligence – really ask questions and observe and spend time and get to know a person these days. As a result, they get what they put out!

People do deserve to be able to make a fresh start and overcome their mistakes, I believe.

A friend of mine met this guy she thought would be perfect for me. We talked a few times. I decided to google him since she “technically” didn’t know him well.

Imagine my surprise when I found out he was accused of gang raping a woman when he was in the military. Needless to say, we never went out or spoke again.

Slim – If I were still on the market, that’s what I would be afraid of running across – a bitter man! There are a lot more of those running around than straight up criminals on the run! They come across great at first. But if you take your time and really talk and get to know them, they can’t keep that bitterness hidden for long.

There is really nothing you can do with a person like that. They are constantly waiting for the other show to drop. They can’t enjoy themselves. They are not free and open to love. Unless you are just looking for a quick hookup – I would run from this type of person!

My cousin said if she attract another broken, bitter dude she is going to scream. The cable guy tried to talk to her the other day and he is going through a divorce. She has never been married but wants to…so I can see her point of dating a guy still going through a divorce, recently divorced or has sworn off marriage altogether.

It’s not about being “bitter” it’s about accepting failure.

Let’s not belabor the point, but there’s some bitter chicks out there too.

Bitter men and women have yet to accept that they did anything wrong – even down to picking the person that hurt them.

Once you accept your own faults, being bitter becomes a waste of time.

…and that past coming to haunt you stuff…PLEASE!!!
If anyone has ever seen GOOD people, sweet beautiful honest people who have never done anyone a bit of harm… babies even…newborn babies…and even many singles who really are good people looking to do right…but end up with someone who hurts them bad…physically, mentally, just all the way around… then please explain this? What, their past life is rolling over into their new life? Is that the explanation for racial divides too… why some can’t never seem to catch a break!?!

Okay…now for the topic. Slim, I am like your cousin. I must have an “@$$hole magnet” on my forehead. I have met all types. Let’s just say, I’ve been there, done that, bought the tshirt and hated the fit! Now that I have come back home, I am not even interested. I’d rather be alone!

kimmie

Let’s not belabor the point, but there’s some bitter chicks out there too.

Dan – Yeah, lets not belabor it. None of us said there were not any bitter chicks. But we happen to be women, talking about women who are interested in meeting “available in every way” men.

My warning for men would be the same – run away from a bitter chick if you don’t want to deal with a stressful situation. Take the time to talk to women you meet – it won’t be long before the bitterness comes to the surface.

Call it bitterness, refusal to accept failure, not getting over past hurt, whatever – this type of person would not be open and available if you are looking to develop a long-term relationship.

SlimNumeroUno

Dan – Well Good morning to you too lol Came in busting down the doh without as much as a sip of coffee first.

I know there are bitter women, men, dogs, cats etc…I date guys so my POV would be regarding the bitter men, not bitter women even though they both exist. Also, folks should take an objective view of their specific situations which is why I asked what the issues were in Dave’s two marriages. If I met him and he advised of two failed marriages, that would throw up a red flag to at least find out the culprits
