Social networking and relationships don’t mix

I have lost count on the number of breakup stories I’ve heard involving Facebook, Twitter,  even LinkedIn! I don’t know how long it will take before people realize that social networking and romantic relationships can become problematic.

More people are finding each other on social networking and that is a great thing.  However, when it comes to maintaining a relationship…well, social networking can pretty much become a major source of a relationship drama.

When you are dating someone, do you add them to your friend’s list on your social networking sites?

Do you think it’s a good idea to find the online profiles of people you are interested  in dating?

My friend Greg thinks that it’s the same thing as taking your man or woman to a bar/club. You think it’s a good idea until someone says or does something that crosses the line.  Then you are wondering why you even bothered “taking sand to the beach” in the first place.

We agreed that the way you handle the situation says a lot about your relationship.  What do you think? If you are having arguments about something related to your online activity or social networking,  is it a sign of something deeper?

If your date or mate is using social networking in a way that makes you uncomfortable, how do you handle it?

And that’s all well and good Raqi – for you.

But, again, it’s a tool.

A classmate of mine passed away in a car accident, leaving a wife and newborn. They didn’t have the funds for a funeral or to get back to the A. Through FB, our high school class got him and his family home. And I hadn’t spoken to him in years.

Point is, like a comb through kinky hair it’s the intent of the user that makes a tool what it is.

There’s always the upside of everything. That’s was great.

Personally, I participate in absolutely no ’social networking’. Neither does my wife. It poses all kinds of problems regarding personal privacy, relationships, and chronic/compulsive behavioral disorders. Facebook, in particular, resembles a MMOG more than anything else, to me.

Dan, that’s a good deed done. However those types of acts have been accomplished well before social networking medias were on the scene. I am not saying that they are all bad, I am just saying getting in touch was being done before they existed.

I hear about incidents and happenings of former classmates or co-workers by way of the grape vine. That obituary that I mentioned earlier that I came to ajc to read, I was called and told about which lead me come online to look it up. And I attended the funeral.

Speaking of cooking…

I was on some of that JuneCleaver yesterday. I made the most wonderful and delicious lamb chops with mashed sweet potatoes and sautéed green beans. Had the little lady already bathed, fed and in bed by the time the hub and I sat down to dine. Just divine. LOL

I think I am programmed to subconsciously cook just enough at every meal because if my hub every asked me why do we have to have leftovers if I am home every day I will not only stab him in the eye, I will stop cooking altogether.

A lady at church told me Sunday that she was not having a very good Mother’s Day because she was still upset at her husband asking her that the Friday before. LOL

I wonder what does he prefer she do with the leftovers, throw it in the trash? Let it sit in the refrigerator and rot? I know, or rather hope my hub will never say anything like that to me. I don’t want to have to end up throwing a plate of hot spaghetti in his lap.

Celisea, I am not laughing at your typos or him pointing them out. I am laughing because he gave them a name. It’s funny (and a little annoying) if she (Sassy1) does it on purpose but it’s freakin hilarious if she doesn’t. LOL

Lovely – I know a few that love to boast about the no leftovers thing. One has a large family and will cook enough for an army, but won’t touch any of the leftovers. I KNOW she does it to be bougie though. It’s like every other time I see her she has to let me know. I don’t know what she & others are trying to prove. To me it is stupid and a waste. I know some things don’t taste that great leftover, but some things are just dumb to not eat because they are leftover. I mean if you bake a big ham & turkey for Tday, why not at least make sandwiches with the leftover meat?

It’s wasteful and not cute!

My fake wanna-be niece tries that on my sister but I’m not buying.

Lovely Brown, unless they are eating from the Steak & Shake $4 menu every night, eating out gets veeeeeerrry expensive. Eating at just chain restaurants for two adults can be $40+ a pop including beverage and tip. And that’s on the low end.

That’s at least $120 a week if you just eat out 3 times a week. That’s a high food budget. I spend about $350-400 a month on our food bill and that covers breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Some things actually taste better eaten the second day. LOL The seasonings have had time to marry properly.

The main thing I keep off my FB page is my relationship status. When you change it, whether to married, or single, or divorced or in a relationship, it shows up in your news feed for all to see. And they get tons of comments, even the break ups do.

The funniest part is when spouses unfriend each other after a fight…then you get a news story that they’re “friends” again, or married again. Too much. Or the ones who get divorced and change their names to something cheeky to throw off suspicion.

So I just leave it blank. No need for that microscope.

kimmie, leftover are great for lunch the next day IMO. And it saves money.

The only foods I will not eat reheated is eggs, cabbage and spinach. Other than that all else is fair game.

And you are right it’s just a stupid tactic for show. If it was good enough to eat last night why would it not be good enough the next day? Or day after that? People do have some strange ways about them.

Tomorrow I am starting a detox program. It’s called “Purity”.

A lady at my church took Kimberly Snyder’s “Glowing Green Smoothie” and incorporated it in a “Purity” program that she created. The regime is a two days program that detoxes your mind, body and soul.

I made the smoothie and it tasted it already. It’s wonderful. It looks like baby diarrhea but it tastes great. LOL

The detox of the mind is no television, radio, chat rooms LOL or any other vice that contaminates or pollutes our thoughts. This includes carnal conversations with friends and family also.

The body is an inward and outward program. Drinking the smoothie and only purified water for breakfast and lunch and only organic products for a sensible dinner takes care of the inside. The outside is using an exfoliating mask that she gives a recipe for. This is same lady that told me about the honey massage.

The soul detox is reading some recommended passages from the bible once when you wake in the morning, at noon and in the evening before going to bed.

No junk food whatsoever, no sex, no television or any other carnal acts that we as people engage in. I talked to a couple of other people that have tried and they said they felt revived and anew after the detox. One lady did say the smoothies gave her the runs. LOL

Imma try it out. It’s only for 2 days. Oh and the night before starting I cannot have anything to eat after 7pm.

Hey Slim. Was this statement attributed to social media or just interacting with the last guy?

How did you handle these issues?

M Dot – A bit of both, to answer your question. In my last r’ship, my ex used all forms of virtual avenues to do his dirt and FB, Myspace, email etc were some of those ways. I’m not quite sure though what type of answer you are looking for in how I handled the issues, being that apparently we are no longer together. ;-) Exman would say the same stuff like, “I can’t control what folks post on my page or what they call me” or “We just be trippin, it’s innocent, nothing serious”….I just got tired of trying to dechiper the BS.

Off to lunch

Blackfoote, I had lobster ravioli on the menu for tonight but I don’t really feel like being bothered with making pasta today. I must go buy some pasta sheets and have it anyway. That depends on what time the little lady wakes from her nap.

If not, it’s heart attack invoking fried chicken, with cholesterol injecting mac-n-cheese and some fresh gas imploding broccoli to even it all out. Oh and sweet tea to wash it all down.

Swiss, it should be interesting. Everything in the smoothie is fine for me to have.

I hardly ever watch tv during the day. My hub is the television person around here so I will not miss that. I am actually going to go the gym tomorrow for a few hours after I finish doing around here what gets done. That will help me not be tempted to talk call any of my friends or talk to you all since the radio is out. By the time I leave there, go pick up Liz, come home and shower, it will be time to make dinner and then go to bed.

Two days without sex is no biggie. And reading the bible is something I do anyway.

Friday I will wash, rinse and repeat. LOL
