Does love make you dumb?

It’s February so I’m practically obligated to think about love. I’m not complaining though! Love is wonderful and grand. I marvel at it in a lot of ways. As great and exhilarating as love can be, it can also get crazy and irrational. I’m not a fan of that part but I am starting to think it is part of the process.

Do you think that doing dumb things for the person you love is a part of being in a relationship?

Are we to be held responsible for our actions when we are head over heels, falling hard (and fast) in love?

What was the dumbest thing you did for love?

Good morning,

Looks like i’m going to miss a lot of the comments on this one today….

‘Do you think that doing dumb things for the person you love is a part of being in a relationship?’

Um, what exactly would you consider a ‘dumb thing’ in the name of love would be? Examples?

Leaving little I miss u notes all around the house?
Driving almost an hour at the drop of a hat to go see them?
Dressing up in a tiger mascot uniform to appease the SO?

Please clarify for me Wise…

Check back in later ;-)

I honestly think that love makes you blind, deaf and dumb. I fell in love with a man and when I was in it I was head over heals and thought he was the most wonderful man I’d ever met.

It wasn’t until I was out of it that I realized how selfish, thoughtless and emotionally unavailable he was.

I know that love can make us do some crazy things.

Good Morning,

When you have blinders on, and you’re in denial about the obvious is when I would say that love would make you dumb especially when the actions of another is not reciprocated.

Are we to be held responsible for our actions when we are head over heels, falling hard (and fast) in love?

Of course, you can’t blame anyone else other than yourself especially if it keeps happening. We should be accountable for our own actions at some point in life.

i disagree…love is wonderful. and its about sacrifices, not doing “dumb things”. im in a long distance relationship and i make sacrifices for my boyfriend, as he does for me.

Love does make you do dumb things, but nowhere near as dumb as the promise/hint/inkling of sex. Speaking as a dude.
Love got me into a long distance relationship once. That was dumb.

No one said love isn’t wonderful…we just said it makes you do & accept some dumb things. There’s a difference between making sacrifices & doing dumb things…….We all have done it at least once in our lives & if you say you haven’t then guess what you’re probably doing something dumb in a relationship now!!!!!!

Good morning!

Welcome to all newbies!

“When you have blinders on, and you’re in denial about the obvious is when I would say that love would make you dumb Yes indeedy!

Being in love is exhilarating. When you’re there, nothing seems dumb and things are done effortlessly. However, when that relationship breaks up and you lament over its demise, you tend to see things a little clear because the heart is no longer filled with joy.

@ALi14~ love is wonderful. and its about sacrifices

I agree :)

maybe there should be some clarification about what dumb things we speak of as making sacrifices and it’s reciprocated wouldn’t apply to the topic….I would think if you’ve fallen hard for someone where you are going above and beyond and there’s nothing in return to make you feel appreciated and loved would be dumb. Examples: Overlooking someone’s bad behavior and/or habits because of not being content with being single and happy so you compromise, continuing to be someone’s ATM when there’s obviously a problem with their finances, and I am sure there’s more to add to the list!

Being dumb in love is okay because you know the other person has your best interest at heart. If that person doesn’t you are probably not in love but only a facsimilie…and that is an issue you have to work out on your own. There is no reason to lose common sense when in love. If you are still holding back in certain areas I question if you are really in love.

Like Denise Williams sang.

Love,oh love,stop making a “fool” of me.
Love is great while it last. When it’s gone & one(or both)are in denial about it, you can do some of the “dumbest things”. You wouldn’t allow your family or friends to do them but you do them to yourself.

Purple Rain

Leggs, “Slightly” was not in Love, he was in infatuation. How could one possibly be in love with someone who is married. You may be “in” somethings with that person but it sure isn’t “love” unless you have some self esteem issues.

@In Denial ~ I definitely agree. When you refuse to “let go” is when some of the dumbest things occur. Like, jumping on the hood of his moving car. I swear, I have never, ever understood this tactic. I have seen 2 women do it. I vowed I would never let a man reduce me to doing that! You no longer want me, cool. I will heal myself and my hurt the best way I can, but it won’t be on the hood of his car while he’s trying to drive away!

LOVE is the Devil!

Think about it….what drives someone to kill a human being over another….LOVE!

What makes you give your last dime to someone knowing that you will suffer…and you don’t care…LOVE!

“I did it because I love you”…”the Devil made me do it”…. sound like fraternal twins to me!

I could go on. Love distorts a usually rational person’s mind until they are almost unrecognizable. Ever find yourself doing stuff you never did….knowing it’s crazy and will bite you in the a$$ later? Ever see/know of someone who had it all, and lost it because they chose stupidly? Yep…it’s that Devil called love! I created a motto. And it is, “the heart is strong, but often wrong”!

It would be wonderful if love could be like it is in the movies…or how mommyand /or daddy boosted it up to be when you were a kid. I like fairytales. But damnit…they set you up for a big dissapointment when you realize you have been bamboozled…hoodwinked…and a house has fallen on you!

Any person who will result to this would potentially be DEAD LOVE!!!

That I never understood along with appearing at the same place and showing your arse when it’s obvious the other person has moved on! Be cool and check it later!

Morning,

I’m agreeing with PR, what’s this thing that’s causing blinders to the point displaying dumb behavior? Certainly not real love. Love works to the benefit of both. Anytime you’re on the bottom of a deal, it ain’t love but gone head and keep believing that. Anytime you’re getting or accepting less than you’re worth, not real love. Love is 360…none of this one-sided, wearing blinders, accepting anthing, crazed behavior.

Purple Rain

I think love will cause you to step out of your box a little, have you thinking about a person when you don’t even realize, do special things that’s maybe out of character for you but certainly not swinging from the hood of a car while he drives away with another…LOL That’s wild. But I’m guessing Diva was asking if, because of love you find yourself stepping things up a bit and maybe out of your normal comfort zone. That’s what I’m guessing. I see folks anonymously posting some crazy mess they took or tolerated of inflicted on someone cause they ended up being the odd ball out…LOL Ain’t love grand
