Liquid courage required to date?

There are a lot of “social crutches” people tend to lean on in dating these days. Some people seem to think that they need alcohol to help them feel at ease. I think this is partly why a bar can be a bad place to meet someone for the first time. You don’t know if you are getting a really good “sober” representation of their personality (Let’s not forget beer goggles).

To be honest, drinking doesn’t always give you liquid courage. It can actually change your personality…for the worse. It’s amazing to meet people who have gone through life not realizing that when they drink too much their behavior is awful.

What is your drinking policy for dating? Do you date drinkers?

Do you limit your alcohol intake when you are on a date?

Has anyone ever told you that you behave differently when you have had a couple of drinks?

Swiss, I remember on time we had an office party where I used to work. The party was in the evening a rented venue. There was this woman that worked with us that was so Miss High & Mighty. Snubbed her noise at every one.

Well at this particular office party she had too much to drink. She didn’t get wild and freaky but she pee’d her pants, started talking very loud and had to be driven home. Sure enough she quit soon after that. I think the embarrassment was too much for her to handle. LOL

@Swiss and Raqi..well believe it our not the students go on to regular traditional colleges and thrive. the school is small only 60 kids, and they vote on any changes they want to make within the school any student at anytime can call a meeting and they discuss whatever the subject is and what action to be take, including adding a class. Like I said I was really shocked, you would think it would be chaos. But they seem to be pretty respectful of each other. Oh yeah and the founders of the schools were parents. Why do I hear Raqi..saying something like “Damn Hippies..”

Yes I know this is not Momania..but it is not Tv talk, or the cooking blog either..but we do discuss that as well.

Potential blog drinking game ideas:

Every time For Real references the AA Dolphin… DRINK!

Every time abc suggests women aren’t trustworthy… DRINK! (Although, that doesn’t seem to happen as much now that he’s all boo’d up…)

Every time Slim’s CT makes an appearance… DRINK!

Every time ARed verbally pimp-slaps Beatiful… DRINK!

Swiss, that’s what I mean about college. You get to pick what path you want to take.

Grade school is where we all get the basics of life. The stuff that every individual needs to function no matter where their career path takes them.

Kids don’t understand that. If I left it up to my younger son he would drop all of his literature classes. He loves math and he tolerates science pretty good but english/literature he hates.

He loves to read but he hates it in school.

I remember in school we actually had classes that taught check writing and balancing. It taught how to properly prepare resumes and how to conduct yourself during a job interview.

I have instances in my life upon interacting with some folks where those courses should have been a requirement for them. Just think what would happen if children got to pick and choose what they think is needful for them. It would be a mess.

I didn’t drink til I got to college. So when I got to college I would only drink in my dorm, in case I got too drunk I could go to my room and lock myself away.

I was chillin in my friends room. He and I had this love/hate relationship. Anyway, there were about 8 of us watching a movie. Then all of a sudden the guy and I just started making out furiously in front of everyone! We quickly realized we were kissing each other and were grossed out. I ran to my room and shut the door, but soon everyone on our floor knew.

Leaving my room was literally a walk of shame for the next few weeks!

That right there says a lot Kym. That place is obvious for a select few. Imagine that being a traditional setting school. Thousands of students from every walk of life. That would be chaos.

“but english/literature he hates.”

Raqi — That’s because until you get to college, you can’t really cover any of the good stuff for fear of protests. And even for the material that has some juicy subtext, you really can’t focus much on that, lest you offend some puritanical parent. I hated my lit classes in high school as well, but ended up being an English major. If I had taught for more than 1 year (as a HS Lit teacher) I’d have likely been run out of town because I constantly tried to add in some more interesting material that wasn’t on the approved reading list.

em>I caught it in passing and thought I was watching soft porn…

I watched a little of one episode and was  the whole time. MTv likes to push the envelope but I don’t know how well this is going to go over on the masses.

An alcohol story gone wrong: Two of my girlfriends and I were out celebrating a birthday and were having a good time at Spondivits. Well one of them is a light drinker and was tryna run with the big girls but couldn’t keep up. As I was sitting across from her I saw her close her eyes as she started leaning towards the table. Before I could extend my arm across the table to catch her head, her face landed in her food…it’s like the whole place saw that happen.

Then we had to damn near carry her to the car…what a rookie.

@Raqi..my son is the same way..he loves science, art, music..any of the creative things. Now he would do well in creative writing but ask him to read anything other than what he likes and he tunes out. I had a huge debate with his middle school english teacher because she said..”he like potty mouth books.”(Captain Underpants and The Day my Butt went psycho”) were his favorite. I said is the goal to promote reading..she said why yes of course. I told her well then I buy him what he likes and will read. Eventually he will out grow, this stuff and pick something else. Which he did. Hell I was addicted to Nancy Drew mysteries, which grew into Agatha Christie.

I watched a few of the orignial BBC episodes of Skins..my understanding from the critics that the MTV versions is all sex and drugs..where as the BBC episodes they follow one character an episodes and their school life interaction with friends…in addition to the sex and drugs of course.

@ARed ~ Skins is not a show for children. The argument is that it in fact borders on child cruelty. The youngest cast member is 15 years old. Too much sexing and boozing going on their.

When alcohol goes wrong: My gf and I had plenty to drink. Our other gf was home feeling the blues. We got the attention of a cutie across the bar and took him home for her. She was embarrased cuz she had rollers in her head. She quickly removed those after she got over the shock of what we’ve done, but had a blast early 20’s).

Kym, my knucklehead loves to read the newspaper. The entire paper at 15 (soon to be 16) years old. And I am finding that he loves to follow politics. He made it his business to catch the State of the Union address. He hates when the speaker paused for the applauds. He kept saying ‘let the man talk’. LOL

I know I cannot choose my kids’ future but lawd knows I hope he does not become a politician.

The 15yo wants to go into sports medicine. Which I think is good.

He wants to be the concierge physician for sports team though. The hub, the boy and I were talking about it one day and the hub asked him how he plans to be married while being on the road with a team. That knucklehead asked which team has the prettiest cheerleaders. We couldn’t do nothing but LOL.

@Superman ~ I’ve done some pretty crazy things in my day. Picking up a stranger and taking him back to our place is at the top. I remember one evening feeling down for whatever reason. Called a cab, went to Babe’s (off Candler Road) and that night “A DeeJay Saved my Life!” I danced, and danced and danced! That was an important night for me becase I truly could have found some trouble if I sought it out. I didnt’ want to do anything I would regret and I knew I only had myself to answer to. I chose the music to take me away like a Calgon Bath!!!!

I use to always say “having no one to answer to but myself is a dangerous thing to possess!” Having 100% freedom to do what you want, when you want without a care will have one probably sitting in jail. If it wasn’t for my morals, ethics and belief in character, I probably would have thrown caution to the wind on many occasion and just said F…It. I did sometimes, but perhaps not often enough. I don’t know. What I do know is I’m happy with the person looking at me in the mirror. Besides my car accident, I didn’t hurt anyone else along my path to getting to know ME!

My legs hurt. I wonder how much it will cost to have a masseuse come in a couple times a week and rub my legs for me. I had to get some support socks today at the recommendation of my doctor.

Maybe I can get the woman that does my mani/pedi to make a house call. hmmm
