I’ve met and dated some really “charismatic” men in my day. I’m talking about the smooth, slick, totally engaging type that could convince you of just about anything. Oh they can make you swoon for days. It’s all fun and games until all that lip service they served is not backed up by actions!
I don’t know if we really grasp the idea that actions hold the most value when you are trying to get to know someone. I think it’s normal for people to talk a good game but how do you know who is playing to win?
If someone doesn’t back up their words with actions, do you think they are trustworthy?

Since it’s a great snow day, what are some of your best snow memories.
Here’s one of mine. I lived in Pavilion Apartments off Flat Shoals. Was making my way to my gf’s house not too far away (Alpine Aptmts.). My car stalled. Had to trek through SoDeKalb Mall to her place. My coat was frozen when I finally arrived. They had to chisel me out of it. A few nice warm drinks of straight brandy and lots of laughter made it all worth while. I knew I didn’t want to experience the blizzard of ‘82 or was it ‘83 by myself. Got my car 3 days later.

Leggs have you been here that long? I think it was ‘82 and I lived in Macon. I was just celebrating my first anniv. My newbie wife made date cookies and we were still in honeymoon mode

@cba ~ yes, I came to the ATL in ‘79 and knew I was never going back to live in NYC. By the Grace of God and all I’ve endured, I managed to not go back home to live w/Mama.
Ok, nobody has any fond, or even scary, snow day memories?

I was tryna narrow it down cuz they’re mostly fond. I remember one time when I was in middle school maybe, they plowed the snow real early and it was like four feet high of fluffy whiteness. The block had a snow fight which really meant my brother and the twins from down the street somehow buried all the girls in the snow, put it all inside our hoods and everything… heathens! We gave up after a couple hours before dripping inside & thawing out with hot chocolate and whatever treats mommy made us, probably sittin watching Kung Fu & G.L.O.W. Good times!

@mytwo ~ had to laugh at the “block” had a snow fight. Not many say “block” anymore. As much as I hate snow and cold, I remember when I worked on Wall Street and had to go pick up my paycheck. The snow was up to my kneecaps. Every part of my body was covered. All you could see were my eyes. I had on some fierce sheepskin boots and sheepskin coat and hat. I was warm as anyone could be fighting the elements. I got my check and even did a little shopping.

I think my favorite snow memories are from when I was in college in SC, sittin in the window watchin the “Florida Boys” scrape up enuff snow to make snowballs. Most of them had never ever seen snow. It was quite entertaining, cause they wld be the only ones out there playin in it

PNIK I went to school here in GA and saw a lot of the same. One time it came down and the campus was blanket of snow – it was beautiful, but nothing I hadn’t seen before. Those fools were outside in t-shirts losing their minds! It’s always fun to watch someone else discover new joys, tho.

Remember when I was in grad. school in Michigan, and there was a huge storm after Christmas. I was riding in the car with my homeboy who was from Alabama and had never seen snow like that. So, he’s driving and all of a sudden loses control of the car. We start sliding and spinning, all the he’s trying to regain control, but failing miserably. Out of nowhere, he says “muthaf@ka! get back on the road!”, and immediately the car stops spinning, straightens up, and regains traction. I think he even shocked himself ’cause we looked at each other in disbelief for a second, and then started crackin the he!! up. lol

I remember going home one winter (which I rarely did). I walked to the pizza shop in a blizzard….best 2 slices of pizza I ever had. That was fun to me THEN and very rare for me to go out.

I work with a guy from NY who will not go home in the winter unless absolutely necessary, he is retired military and doesn’t want to go bk to the cold. My bff from college grew up in NY and on days like these she would be yelling “ya’ll don’t know what cold is, this aint cold”

Kym my bad I think I had an old folks moment. That sounded like some stuff my dad would have said to me.
pops: clean those gutters boy.
me: we don’t have a ladder.
pops: what you mean you need a ladder?!? you don’t need no ladder. When you’re done, go mow the lawn.
me: that lawn mower is like 100 years old and doesn’t even have a motor.
pops: yep and it works just as good as one with a motor. matter of fact, mow the neighbor’s lawn too.
