Oddly enough, TheDude and I started the year facing our first really big relationship hurdle. For about a month or so, I didn’t think we were going to get past it. Well, we did and we continue to move forward.

That being said, I don’t see myself doing too much differently. We like the course that we are on and I am content to just let it flow.

If it was his first time issuing a “Meet me there.” order combined with a lack of consideration for my interests, I would have called him on it. It is possible that he behaved that way cause chicks he has encountered never required he act differently.

If after putting him on notice, he still did not make the attempt to approach differently in the future, then I would call him a no-go. But…I would have at least let him know that he’d made a misstep.

@SexyC ~ of course I told him he had a misstep. I too thought due to “chicks” he’s encountered in the past he acted with what he knew and was comfortable with. Nonetheless, I did tell him he should first ask if I like pool, knew how to play and if I wanted to meet there. So, after putting him on notice he simply said “I could meet him there or we could meet some other time because he had already ordered his drink.” I had to bow out.

I’ve been trying to follow this convo about being invited to a pool hall (which was a dive) but felt the person was controlling because they wanted to do what they wanted, and not asked about your interest (did I sum that up correctly?). If this is the case, I think WAY too much is being made of this.

Why didn’t he simply say, I am finishing up my drink and I can meet you somewhere that you like. Sounds simple to me, especially if he really wanted to see you.

@NY2GA ~ naw, don’t think too much is being made out of all this. Perhaps not necessarily being controlling, but hindsight is 20/20. If you don’t care “upfront” what my interests are and I know this going in, I can’t really expect or be surprised when my interests still aren’t being taken into account on other things.

Can’t speak on why he didn’t say what you thought would be simple. It could have gone any number of ways. He could have been “feeling” me out on whether I would easily give in to his pick, or even voice my concern over his pick. I got the impression he really wanted to see by the way he blew my phone up after leaving that pool hall asking to me somewhere. I lost interest that quickly. I’m not usually that quick to end something that didn’t even get started, but my gut was telling me to not even bother!

@SlimNU ~ he called me before I left work asking if we could stop somewhere for a drink. He said for me to think of a place I would like to meet. Nice start. He then calls me back telling me he picked a spot and I could meet him there in 20 mins (from my job). I simply lost interest in the rest of the telephone exchange.

For me, I can do this as a “first date” as long as the place is decent. Me not knowing how to play pool or pool being of no interest wouldn’t have caused me to cut him off. As long as the place was decent and allowed enough opportunity to talk and interact. I would have been good. Now, if this is a spot of his then I could probably get him to teach me how to play a game or two….AS LONG AS THE PLACE WAS DECENT.

I feel you on keeping the money right for going abroad. Even though it’s not international, I’ll start getting my “every other year” trip plans together next month….usually taken in July or August. I take this in lieu of international travel…for now

Celisea I’d agree that “laying around waiting to date” isn’t usually going to yield quality. If someone is just waiting around for people to date them, then they get whatever they get. The quality comes by being proactive and directing your efforts appropriately.

I believe we’re all acutely aware of “effort” needing to be very present but what that when a person lacks the quality you need to sustain a potentially fulfilling relationship? @I am ~ you might have gotten a quicker a response if you told someone how much $$ you’re willing to spend. Nothing is free. Also, should state if you want a big crowd or a little crowd cuz on NYE there will be no such thing. Also, might have helped if you asked if anyone was throwing a NYE’s party at their place and could you invite yourself. You have to put certain particulars out there if you really want to yield and answer.

I am – Try to find a good houseparty. The clubs and parties advertised on the radio never seemed to live up to the hype for me.

I once went to church with some friends and hit IHOP after. It was a lot of fun and no pressure to get super dressed up.

I am – you are putting some tight parameters on that NYE outing. I think i’m over being Out and about on that night. Prices are severely inflated and it’s just too dayum crowded. I’m all for a good NYE house party though.
