Where do you find the good guys?

One of the most common questions women ask me when they hear I write about dating is where are all the good men in Atlanta. As if I have the physical address to a magical man tree somewhere in the city that grows good men that you can just go grab off the vine. Good guys are everywhere!

I can’t guarantee that they are the type of men that will appeal to them (or vice versa). Who knows if that elusive chemistry will spark an interest or not. I just know that they are out there and you don’t have to look far.

The gym, recycle center, Trader Joes, churches, and records stores are pretty prime locations that have made me stop and think, “Ok, I must always look cute when I come here” because it’s crawling with the types I am drawn to. A lot of times women don’t realize that some of the best guys to date are already their friends!

When was the last time you were out somewhere and thought that it was hottie central?

I was hanging out in Smyrna at a wing place on karaoke night and I couldn’t believe the number of cuties that were there. Who knew!?

Where do you think the quality women are? How do quality men seek out their counterparts? What are the best places to meet someone that you think is compatible to you?

excellent point, Raqi. s/o & i had a lil convo this weekend about compromise. openly talking about the things we’ve compromised to make the relationship work. you know, the stuff on your “ideal mate wish list” that you scratched out because you realize you can live quite happily without them in exchange for the good things you have together. it was a reall eye-opener that we could both honestly say “yeah. i do bring a lot of good to the table, but i also know i’m kinda lacking here & there.”

Unfortunately, there are far too many “court jesters” walking amongst us. Committed relationships are harder and harder to find. So many want too many prospects at their beck and call. I think men are just as much afraid as women to give their heart and concentrate on getting to know one person. Put the time into that relationship and not 2-3 others at the same time and something may take flight. But, this concept is falling by the wayside more and more.

LOL Kym Yeah possibly.

My husband can be hair-pulling mind-numbing moody but it’s not too bad for me to deal with it for all the good that he is as a person in general as well as to and for me.

I had a question to ask you a few weeks back. Let me try to remember what it was.

Morning all -

2Can – It’s ironic you’re trying to suspend someone when the first thing you do this morning is try to stir up some ish. Boy please. As for “pent up angst” there is none. I speak my mind so that I don’t have to be “pent up” about anything. Either you deal with it or you don’t.

Anywhoo – I agree with Wise, there is never a lack of good guys. You just can’t focus on the bad ones.

czBrat, exactly. There are some things that just aren’t that important when it comes to being with a man that truly gets me and is good for me. He and I accept and deal with each other’s minor bads for the good of what we give each other.

Toucan – you’re a nutcase. (Batting my darkbrowns at you. No contacts today. LMAO)

I will agree that finding a good guy is dependent upon being in a good place and being a good person.

I also think that we can sometimes confuse “accepting a person’s bad” with accepting bllsht and not holding folks to (reasonable) standards. There is a difference between he leaves his clothes beside the hamper and he disappears for days at a time.

@Raqi..I have not done it yet..but I will consider him getting it. When it comes to sex I am not fooling myself in the least when it come to “the boy” he is his father’s son and his mother’s son…he has the sneaky gene double time. I would rather he be safe than sorry. He tells me I overdue the convo with regards to sex and drugs..but since the kids are now sniffing nutmeg, drinking purple drank(cough syrup and some other crap) and doing heaven knows what else..yeah I stay in his ear. I was at his school for career day, they are not making these teenagers like they use to…they are wayyyyyyy more sexually advance in their looks and manners than we ever were. I couldn’t tell the teachers from the kids at times.

If more folks were shutting down foolishness sooner, there would be less bllsht running free in the streets.

But I know from my experience that I put up with some things out of fear of losing the relationship and suffering pain from that loss. When in reality, in walking away, I didn’t lose a damn thing. In fact, I ended up winning in the long run.
