Cyber Monday: Date shopping

Welcome back everyone! I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday weekend. I cooked my first Thanksgiving meal and there are no reports of ER visits, so I think I can call it a success! How was your holiday?

Today has been deemed Cyber Monday for online shoppers to get great deals. There are also some people who chose this weekend to jump into online dating!

There is something about this time of year that make conditions optimal for setting up a profile, posting a picture, and sifting through the many websites for potential romance.

Will you give it a shot? I believe some websites are even offering free features that normally cost money, so is it a good time to see what’s out there?

I haven’t tried online dating in years and I am a little gun shy about it, admittedly. Do you think people who are online dating have true intentions for a meaningful relationships for the most part?

How do you spot the players? For those of you who have tried online dating and found success, what do you think helped?

Happy Monday!

back from lunch

Raqi – I have been looking for a good butternut squash recipe. We went to SO’s uncle & aunts for dinner, like we have in the past, and then went to his brother’s house in Newnan to socialize with more of the family. His aunt can throw down. You name it, she had it and it was good. I kinda got overwhelmed with all the food so I didn’t take a to-go plate but I did leave with a sweet potato pie, which I ate a piece for breakfast with my coffee the next morning!

I made a caramel pound cake that I must admit was killer! The next day SO had his 3 nephews over with their SO’s. They are brothers and all in the military, so it is rare they are all together anymore. SO said they are the closest he has to younger brothers. The thing about eating out on Tday is you don’t have any leftovers. I like having at least a ham or turkey to make sandwhiches. So I baked a ham, got some of that Hawaiian bread and also made my special chicken chilli with toppings to go on it. They tore that food up – only thing we had left was about a 3rd of the ham. Glad they enjoyed it though!

SexyCool, you are lucky. LOL The only thing my marido cares about peeling , cutting and chopping during the holidays when I am cooking is peeling himself out of his recliner away from the game to cut himself a piece of a cake before I can barely finish icing it. Then chopping me off when I try to tell him to get out of my kitchen if he is not going to help. Don’t care nothing about my BMC.

Holiday doings are just not his thing. I do the cooking, shopping, decorating, gift wrapping…you name it.

One year I BMC’d about him not helping my wrapped gifts until he finally got up to help. Then purposely wrapped the first one wrong.

And when we are planning for these things he says we are going to do. But what he really means in ‘Raqi’.

Like he wants to know if we are going to make a sour cream pound cake for Christmas? Yeah right. And he knows how to cook.

@ARed ~ for those willing to “date in the dark” will probably get their just desserts.

Leggs – So many folks lie about their pics in the first place that I don’t think it’s a big deal if a picture isn’t posted. In fact, I’d rather no pic at all, than one taken in 1990.

One’s main focus should be past the pic anyway. You won’t know what you really get til you meet up with em.

TheDude actually did some things wrong Wednesday night, but…I figured I could either be thankful for the help or do it all myself.

I decided I was way less concerned about his method than my outcome. Besides, he take direction *really well*. (lol)

Kimmie, exactly. We have none.

I think I am kinda like your guy’s aunt. I like to make a little of everything when I cook for turkey day. When I cook for Christmas I have less food and more desserts. Two or three different types of cakes. A pie or two. Cookies, lemon squares, brownies. Just a whole bunch of goodies.

Oh and always a couple of bowls of fruit sitting around for the healthy eaters. LOL And nuts which I don’t eat but like to put out for company.

I think I’ve shared the story how this NFL player hit me up on MySpace. He did it just as he was coming out of college and right before he moved here and signed with the team. Me being the skeptic that I am, I didn’t take him seriously…

That is…until I read about 6 year, 18 million contract and $5 million signing bonus with the Falcons a few months later. Damn.

Leggs: 2:36, On a site where I am free to send an email, I will send one and only one flirt or whatever. If I get no response I keep it moving.
If I discover that I have to pay to send the email, I just delete my profile and keep it moving.

One of the reasons why I haven’t signed up on a dating site is because I have not found one with odds in my favor.
I just don’t like tacos (Eharmony and Match have more women than men. The odds are like 60% female which is still to high for me)
I go to http://www.giveyourhandabreak.com to find out which sites have more men then women.
BPM is a good site but also, women out number men there.
The site that I am which I will not name has more men than women.

You see, last year, he went and hung out with “the boys” the night before and left me to do all the cooking. Wednesday night, he came in and performed some quite helpful tasks, along with complaining/teasing noises BEFORE he went to hang out with “the boys”.

Yes, those hams are crazy. SO took one to his kid’s fall feast at their school a few weeks ago and a small one was $30.

I have made sweet potato biscuits a few times in the past. I got a great recipe from this very newspaper. I have not done them in awhile, but I remember them being pretty easy, like any other biscuits. I sprinkled a little cinnamon on top of them. Now you have me planning to go dig out that recipe!

The last fried turkey I had I nearly passed out from coughing so much…it was injected with too much cajun spices. And, I remember when I first heard of a “fried turkey.” I told the person they were pulling my leg cuz there’s no such thing as a fried turkey! Believe I was living in Atl one year. Came to work the next week with the most delicious, tender turkey I’ve ever tasted.

I have never had fried turkey because everyone I know does it with peanut oil.

I know there is fried turkey on the Christmas menu. Although I am to do none of the cooking because our house is being used for the dinner I think I will do a small butterball for myself and those that don’t want fried turkey.
