Dating: Are you a good judge of character?

I believe the most effective way to improve your dating results is to be mindful of a person’s character. We can all be drawn to the outside but it’s the inside that makes us want to stick around.

I know we all put our best foot forward when we are meeting and exchanging phone numbers. Once it goes past the superficial things, it’s good practice to observe how a person handles situations, what their outlook on life is, and how compatible these things are to you.

Do you think that you are a good judge of character? How smart are you when it comes to figuring out whether or not the person is a good match to your personality and character?

I admit that I haven’t always trusted my judgment in the past. It’s partly why I get so cautious because I want to be clear on who the person is, as opposed to who I want them to be.

I think a lot of the dating misadventures we go through stem from the problems single people have figuring out who is a good match based on character.

How do you know when you are seeing a person’s real character?

I think that I am a good judge of character but sometimes it’s my heart that clouds what I already know.
Lately, I have decided to go with my instinct instead of my heart.
Human beings are the only species that second guess their instincts and go against the grain.
I went on a date on Friday, though the gentlemen seemed very nice, I have to go on my instinct with this one and not pursue opportunities.
He seemed a little off and red flags are now screaming sirens.

Good Morning All,

I like to think I am a good judge of character..I know what and who I like once I get to know the person or spend enough time with them. I also know what behavior attracts me and what gets on my last nerve. Now there have been some characters who I have come across that got passed my bs detector..and some guys who I misjudged unfairly..but for the most part I know a joker when I see them.

Morning Peoples,

how do you know when you are seeing a persons real character? im with 2C, its a matter of time. imo, no way of knowing until you have some time wiht that person under your belt. you have to learn them, not just men/women in general. the first step for me tho is just that, first impressions. if i meet you and we can have a good convo and my inner voice isnt screaming at me, then we may get to know each other. if we meet, and that inner voice just keeps going “danger will robinson”, we’re done. i tend to trust gut instinct….

Goooood morning all!!! (Two snaps and a twist for a short work week)

I’m with my honey bunny on this topic…only time will tell. When you first meet someone, they are putting their best foot forward and you really won’t know who they truly are until they get tired of playing the mask game. Plus I think once that initial excitement and newness wears off, all those things you thought were cute or endearing can become a bit annoying.

Morning all –

Yes, I think I’m a good judge of character. Even though I haven’t found “the one” I still pick guys who are good people. I hear so much drama from some of my girlfriends from the guys they deal with and it’s just sad to hear.

But one other benefit I give myself is that I give myself TIME to let a persons character show. So many women want companionship so badly, they’ll jump in feet first…quickly. It’s no wonder they pick such losers, you never got a chance to know them in the first place.

The more you hold out on the cootie, the more he plays a flash and dash game.

Give up the goods early and if he stays,u know he wants to stay. More than likely, what u see is real coz he knows u inside, out and spread eagled! So do u.

So it’s better to give up the goods early if u want to see if he’s an azzhole(female lingo) or if he wad just flossing just so he can hit.

Morning lovely people!

I think I’m a good judge of character. Like Amred, stuff just hasn’t worked out with some, they had human flaws just like I do. And I also give it time for the true colors to show and try to not get caught up in the chemistry. I am in awe of just what a good person my SO is though, he puts all others I’ve dealt with to shame on that front.

This weekend we went to a welcome home from Afghanistan party that the wife of one of my SO’s nephews gave. It was wonderful. She put together a slideshow of his tour, to the tune of Maria Carey’s Hero. It was so touching and a blessing that he is home safe. That really is the highlight to the start of the holiday season for us.

She is. His name is Kroy Biermann and he plays for the Falcons

She did a live show last night, she could be preggers but it’s still early and you couldn’t quite tell. Her stomach had a couple of rolls.

But she dodged the pregnancy question and said “no” that she wasn’t but muttered it under her breath

It’s just all about the drama. That’s what gets ratings.

Good day all.

“How do you know when you are seeing a person’s real character?”
I think you see a real persons character in dating whenever the consistency (good or bad) shows up. If someone is always flakey, late, or cancelling on you, that is a character flaw to me because you arent respecting their time.

However they start thats how they end.

I’m going to make a broad general statement here at my own peril…I believe women aren’t as good judge of character as some claim to be.

My reasons for believing this is because if a woman has been lied to, ran amuck on, lead astray, and cheated on by three or more men then they can’t claim to be a good judge of character. Granted there has to be some type of consistency in one’s personality in order to be a sane individual. But that doesn’t reveal true character.

True character reveals itself during a moment of crisis and/or when a person believes no one is watching. Sad to say be some people mistake style for character.

Experience is a tough schoolmaster. But…I learned. (Ya’ gone learn, lil mama. Ya’ gone learn.

I have learned that hints about a person’s character can be found in how they talk about themselves and those closest to them and the kinds of things that they talk about.

I have learned that character flaws can be disguised under flash and fluff.

I have learned that true character will always display itself….if you just give it some time.

What up Blog Fam!!!

1. Lets not confuse a person’s character with them being the one for you. Just because it didn’t work out doesn’t mean that person is of bad character.

2. I don’t agree with the “only time will tell” mindset. I believe if you ask the right questions or choose the appropriate conversation you can gather alot about a person’s character in 10 mins.

3. 8-2!!!!!

Celisea

I’m actually agreeing with C tha 1, I think I’m a pretty good judge of character overall but really when it comes dating and sizing things up about a person’s character you have to wait to see if what they say is what you see because frankly all the times you thought you hit it spot on, you missed something. I mean no, none of us are falling for the obvious man-hoes and those that are just out there with bad behavior. It’s those that say and do all the right things initially, is where you have to wait it out. I’m usually in tune with kinfolks, dirty coworkers and what not but just as I’ve pegged myself in general and most times on the money, more so can a man (or woman) with an agenda or ulterior motives conceal bad character.

#2? Rarely ever do you get the real Joe. And a good majority of the time, you can hear it. I’m a pretty good listener and I listen to what you say as well as what you didn’t say. If who you claimed to be is who you are then it’s easy. But ever so often you meet a talented one, a real joker, a real schisters. Even if you can hear it, you can’t call it until it’s out there. Sometime letting things play out ain’t all the time for you but sometimes it’s the let the jokers know, uh huh I see you.

And yes, sometimes, a person’s character flaws can be evident in the initial stages, but really, more often than not, when a person is trying sell themselves, put their best foot forward, they are giving you, not only what they believe to be the best about themselves, they are giving you the best of who they *aspire* to be…even those who are not *running game*.

And most often, it is time that will prove whether they overpromised and are under-delivering.

Wrong! I wish my exes the very best. I like to keep the floodgates open for my blessings.

I’ve been hurt to my core by some men and while I can’t stand them, I let God deal with them. I don’t want to block what is meant for me. Only letting what some dude did in the past block my blessings is what will anger me. I agree that folks can see the anger written all over you. That’s when I take a break from dating until I get myself together.

For Real….I think you’re getting lost in what I said. I know and understand there must be dialog. I was only saying that I agreed with the fact that you said most times you can listen and gather what you need in knowing a person intents or character. I went further to say that sometimes, just sometimes you might encounter a joker who’s talented beyond listening ears so sometime you have to allow time for what he didn’t disclose during the course of a conversation to rear itself. I mean c’mon, I old enough to know you can just SIT FOR MONTHS. What’s the point in talking up fronting if I’m just gonna wait everything out. We’re talking about judging character the inability to do so or where you’ve missed the mark….in those cases what came out most times is not what you assessed….That’s not with every incident. Yes, I agree you can pull the kill switch in many cases BECAUSE you listened.

a break up don’t mean a dude hurt u,it probably hurt him too that it didn’t work. Maybe not as bad and softish as you, but hurt a the same.

U should view a break up as an opportunity to grow on what failed u in the prior relationship.

Melo – Just reading this made me sigh and feel tired. Yada, yada, yada! Don’t you think at this point in the game me, as well as other ladies, have heard all this before and know all this?

When I said a guy hurt me, I’m talking about the things he did that led up to the break up, not the actual break up itself. The “misadventures” with exes that I’ve spoken of over the years on this blog – they were not fun! Yes, they hurt! I’m not going to rehash them. They are in the past.

As for the clingy thing, I knew that was a mistake, in fact, I knew it while I was doing it, but that’s where my head was at the time. I had just lost my mom and I was vulnerable.

As for intimacy, I know just cause we did it we’re not suddenly getting married! But for me it is more than just a physical release. I know myself, that’s why I prefer to get to know man before I go there with him. I know me.

That’s the wonderful thing about being this age! I have wisdom, I know what I like and don’t like. And I don’t give a flip what anyone else says that I don’t care about!

A lady at her bachelorette party was horsing around with her friends. One playfully pushed her in the pool. She went in head first in only 3 feet of water and is now paralyzed – doctors say she will never walk again. This happened a month before her wedding in May. The plans were put on hold while she goes thru therapy and learns to deal with life in a wheelchair. Her fiance’ is standing by her and caring for her and said he never once thought of leaving her. The wedding will be next summer. They were on the Today show.

kimmie – read that on the ajc last week. Supposedly the reason that the wedding was put on hold was due to insurance coverage. That their combined salaries would make them ineligible for some of the gov’t benefits that she is receiving now.

SlimGoody – that was the same battle cry that the private security companies used when TSA was created. All that happened was that most of the folks that worked from the private contractors got jobs at TSA. IF…big IF…TSA goes away, I suspect the trend will just reverse itself.

The unfortunate thing about the patdowns is that what it will take to make the complainers simmer down is an actual terrorist attack.

And…in my distrust of the media as a whole, I have to wonder if they aren’t focusing on the “verbal minority.”

“….plus depending on the size of em, they may get mistaken for a hidden parachute”

Slim — Disclaimer: I have no idea if this is true or not, but it’s such a good story that I really hope it is… This guy at the office was saying the he read that a lady somewhere got flagged by one of the body scanners for what they though was a stick of dynamite she was attempting to smuggle past security in a particular body orifice. Turns out, she was just traveling with her Aunt Flo.

kimmie — People are “randomly” selected & you can choose either the body scan or pat down.

Not sure. But my understanding is that the patdown is only if you refuse the scanner…and that’s IN airports that have them. Not every airport has them yet.

Swiss – Okay, random is the word I was looking for.

SCool – I know the ATL airport has them, the busiest airport and all.

As for the patdown, I guess the “wand” thing won’t detect everything. Crazy world we live in now!

i know we’re off on the TSA but this was too weird:

A court in the northwestern German city of Muenster has banned a man from tattooing his pony with the logo of British rock band the Rolling Stones (The owner said he wanted to make his pony “more unique and beautiful” with the tattoo) citing specific law against “tattooing warm-blooded vertebrates”. whats more hysterical, that he wanted to give the animal the tatt (already had it preshaved and stencil applied) or that they actually have a law against this specific thing? how many folks are looking to tattoo their animals??? (not referring to things like farm brands and such)
