I vote that we date

Happy Election Day! I hope you are all at the polls today because it’s so important to vote.

I don’t know if it’s because I’m older now and have more at stake, but politics has become some what of a fixation. I usually don’t talk politics when I’m just meeting someone new. I figure that I should get to know a person before I start letting politics get in the way.

Do you feel pressure to date within your political party? Would it be difficult to date someone with opposing political views?

I think I would be willing to date someone with different ideals than I but I can’t recall having done so before.

I’m the type that have ideals across the spectrum so I suppose it makes it a bit easier. What do you think our political views say about us and our compatibility in dating?

g’morning y’all….

My political views don’t say nuttin ’bout me….but my buddy Kym says I’m a liberal…..really? Like you, Diva, I have a myriad of views, and the candidate that espouses those same views, is the one who gets my vote. And no, I’m not voting Democrat just because……if a chic I’m dating has differing views, that’s her prerogative…

Morning everybody, yawwwnnnn….
I’ll be honest, never had a great interest in politics. like 2C, i have a lot of different on views on different things, doesnt seem that they adhere to any particular party. as far as dating, we could have some interesting conversations on it, but unless we’re talking drastic things like he supports the candidate that says we go back to slavery or something wild like that, id consider it to be his opinion that he is entitled to. not automatically a turn off, imo

Good Morning All,

I guess the older I get the more my moderate roots show. I have somethings I am way left on and somethings I am middle of the road on. I have never ever..ever.. in my 20 years of voting always voted one party straight..down the line. Because I vote issues not people I really listen to what the jokers(excuse me politicians are saying or not saying) and I vote based on what I think of their “insert nice word of bs”. ..but I digress

No I don’t feel pressure to date someone with the same views and ideas as I have. I think it would be interesting to date someone with opposing views..but diffcult naww. To quote a coined phase from the weekend..”We do it every damn day.” Every day we deal with someone who doesn’t share our same idea of politics. But you find common ground and compromise. Cause seriously short of moving to your own private island or finding the mysterious Land of the Lost..you are pretty much stuck having to deal anyway.

Besides I can’t you just see the yard sign Now entering the home of Moderate,Conservative, Jon Stewart, Sean Hannity fans.

Politics and Dating don’t go together, it’s like Oil and Water … They should not be discussed unless you plan on making this a serious, long term committment.

Well i can tell you now..we are not going to far..if we don’t talk politics or current events or something..cause if all a dude has to talk about is KC and Jo-Jo come clean..or something else just as meaningless we might as well call it done…date one.

Kym, I feel ya on a date not being able to discuss current events…granted, we don’t have to share the same views, however, if we’re in a setting in which the topic comes up, at least be able to articulate your own views; Or know something about whats going on….I can’t stand a social dummy!

I’m a moderate and would rather date another moderate because I love stimulating conversation. Moderates seem more open to new ways of looking at things. I have dated indivuduals far ingrained to the left but would have a hard time with someone way to the right. The right leaning guys tend to be prohibitive of sexual expression, and sexual expression ranks just after stimulating conversation in my dating priority list.

Good morning everybody! :D

I wouldn’t know about dating someone with differing views. I tend to think of myself as more liberal on most issues. I don’t identify with any party particularly but I usually vote democrat usually because the candidate’s agenda is more aligned with my views.

I don’t know if it would be a conflict unless they were a really bigoted republican. I have went on a date with a republican guy who had way different views but in the end I think it boils down to maturity. As long as we can be mature about our differences than perhaps it can work. Most people are pretty fervent about what they believe so I don’t know if its a good chance you can work it out in the case of radical difference of beliefs.

@Kym/2C – im with you, got to be able to hold a conversation of substance. im not much into politics, but im a history and science geek. trivia shows like jeopardy and cash cab are hobbies for me, trivia that u actually use your brain for not stuff like what did Snooki get arrested for this time.

Agreed, it’s one thing to be able to talk about current events and things occuring in the world, it’s another to say I am a Dem or Rep, I like Hannity, blah, blah, blah… I want to have a meaningful conversation without mixing politics into it (of course unless I am running for elected office) …

I really am a news/political junkie..I love this election season..minus the angry radical groups..(Tea Party, Code Pink–yeah I said it..they rank right up there along with the loony anarchy groups..who plan to take over…and then what? etc..). It is nice to see Americans actively particpating and sharing ideas and views..

You don’t necessarily have to share the same political views and affiliation to date someone but it might help IMO. When you look to date, you seek commonalities that fit your personality and lifestyle but you don’t exactly want a clone either. It’s okay to have opposing political views just as long as you can compartmentalize your differences and they don’t spill over into other areas. I’d be more concerned about the lack of participation in voting and lack of awareness on the issues rather than the opposing viewpoints. Rousing discussions about politics can bring another dimension to the relationship if it can be pulled off, but everybody can’t discuss politics with potentials and loved ones…

blue, that’s the way to raise ‘em….expose ‘em to different stuff, then, as they grow into their own, they won’t be pigeon-holed into one mindset….goes for music, culture and the whole nine…

@2C – thats what im trying for, they watch more Planet Earth than Spongebob (tho i do like Spongebob, lol). trying to keep their horizons broad, and now their broadening mine, asking me questions i cant answer, sends me back to looking stuff up myself, lol

I am a die hard conservative, she is a die hard liberal. But we both agree with some of the others platforms. If you are mature a person that you are dating being from a different political party is minor. I really had to laugh at the post early saying that conservative men are prohibitive in bed. Good Morning:

My political views are mine and hers is hers I start from the middle and depending on the issue is where I will go Fair Tax I lean toward the right abortion rights I will lean toward the left so there is spectrum of issues which would determine my values and I can always respect hers no matter where she stands but if there something I don’t get that she stands for it would make for good conversation and not necessarily a break up.

Morning All!

I asked my sweetie if he could date me if I was a R. He said he didn’t know but we probably would not click as well as we do. Every conservative AA guy I know comes off as a lame sellout. We would not get along.

But the main thing is to be informed and stand for something. If not, you’ll fall for anything.

Many of our ancestors died so we could vote today. Show your appreciation and make your voice heard by voting.

That’s all I have to say about politics today, because I’ve really had enough of this election and the ugly, stupid stuff I’ve seen & heard in connection to it. I’m so ready for it to be over.

Have a great day!
