What’s the worst that can happen?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to throw caution to the wind and just do whatever you wanted to do? No risk/benefit analysis, just following an impulse and do what feels good. Maybe it could lead to a new experience or a new romance!

I’m cautious with most things and I certainly have not been accused of being impulsive about dating. Maybe it’s time to switch things up, though. What’s the worst that can happen if you let your impulses dictate what you do? Would that be a brilliant idea or a slightly insane thing to try?

Sigman Freud theorized that the human personality is driven by the Id, ego, and the superego. The Id is the “irrational” part of our personality. If this is true, then my Id is all dormant! Rarely do I get irrational about dating, but maybe it’s time I did.

What’s the most impulsive thing you have ever done? How did it turn out?

Do you think our overly cautiousness sometimes cuts us off from experiencing something (or someone) important that we should really experience?

g’morning..

Well, since I’m a risk-taker by nature, damn near everything I do in my everyday life could be considered border-line impulsive….being single and free allows me opportunities to do such. the worst that can happen? To me, not much, cause nothing ventured, is nothing gained.

Diva you said, “Rarely do I get irrational about dating, but maybe it’s time I did.” Trust, you aren’t the only female who thinks likes this. Lotta y’all wanna be so calculated in ya movements til you come off as being sidditty, snobbish, or whatever….as I’ve said before, do what makes you happy…you only get one shot at this thing called life…live it up!

Good morning!

I have thrown caution to the wind on numerous occasions. When I did, I had lots of fun. Sometimes it’s cool to throw your inhibitions in the back seat of the car! Wait, wait…that didn’t come out right!

im with you Diva, not one much for impulse….usually have everything planned out, pros and cons, what if this what if that….scared of impulse, lol….
doing things on impulse….biggest thing i did on impulse, get married. just all of a sudden, lets do it! and we know how that turned out….now of course friends and fam thought id lost my mind, jumped from a 2 year relationship in he!! to getting married to someone out of the blue, but it worked! and i’ll admit, once i realized i had made that commitment to get hitched i almost puked out of fear, but it worked!

Good morning all

Do you think our overly cautiousness sometimes cuts us off from experiencing something (or someone) important that we should really experience? Yes, like blue I’ve been one to do the whole pro/con thing. Only recently have I started to just do what I feel. It’s hit and miss but I like it.

How much time you got WD? Seriously I’m not a “fly by the seat of my pants” kind of girl although I’ve had my share of do what feels good today and worry about the outcome tomorrow experiences…yes I’ve had plenty. IMO it sort of depends on where you are in life and if you can afford the risks. I have a kid and I know aside from that, I’m entitled to “live a little.” However and given the fact that she’s moving into the “make or break” years, I have to keep my wit about me cause somebody in the house gotta keep sane…LOL. Since I’m the adult looks like I got picked. But yes, to some extent too much thinking and planning and rationalizing can be a kill joy.

god morgon peoples!! calculated risk. it’s an oxymoron, but it works for me.

I’ll try something that carries the risk of hurt (financial, emotional, physical, etc.) but so long as it won’t devistate me. Won’t kill the savings, won’t have me out to kill all “3-legged” humans, won’t break my neck (sprain an ankle maybe), etc.

Life is meant to be lived. I’m jut not keen on rushing the ending. :-)

Ok, coffee finally kicking in a little bit. On-topic, I’m a pretty open chick so I love trying new things, spontaneity, learning about other people’s interest…So the worst that can happen is that you just don’t like it or it doesn’t work out. NEXT

see, for me grew up with a crazy spontaneous dad, that usually dragged us into not so grea ta situation. that kinda molds one to be more of a planner, kind of like since the other one wont be responsible you have to make sure you are, and then that just takes over. by the time i got married i had attracted enough SO’s and friends who were that way, that the pattern continues…now i am told sometimes that i am responsible to a fault, but its a hard mold to break….

Good Morning All,

First off I like the definition that Dr. Dwyer gives of ego..EGO stands for Edging God Out..so I try not to let it grow and take over..but I have been known to let the Id (her name is Tawanda!!!) do the driving from time to time. Results may vary with continue use. Sometimes its great..and sometimes someone winds up naked in the back of a van…sometimes someone winds up in handcuffs..these things happen…but I digress.

I have learned to keep Tawanda locked up..for her own good.

Morning crew!

Yeah, errbody should live a little and take a chance sometimes. I’ve actually found this to be an issue with a lot of my people – I luv ya and I’m down for ya, but a lot of you just won’t step out of the “box”!! You won’t try different food, different music, different vacation spot – heck some won’t even try a different route to work! It’s frustrating because most of the time it wouldn’t be that much of a “stretch” to try something new. If you always go for the tomatoes, cheese and bacon bits at the salad bar – really go for broke one day and try some mushrooms or a few olives!!! Will the world come to an end?LOL!! And yes, this is for both women and men!!!

I have had folks look at me like I’m an alien from out of space for suggesting something different. They trip when they find out where I met my man and really it was not anything so “risky” – at Publix!

Frankly I don’t see how some people do it. If I had to wake up doing and seeing the same exact things every day for the next how ever many years I have on this earth, I would scream!!!

Yes there is comfort and security with the familiar. But variety is also the spice of life!!!

Good morning folks! Thought I’d chime in this morning with my hair-raising experiences…

What’s the most impulsive thing you have ever done? How did it turn out?

Part 1 – I took a trip to Mexico for my 25th birthday, first time out of the country by myself. I expected to have 3 days of reading and laying on the beach, but as soon as I checked into my hotel, all that changed. Two hours later, I met a Canadian dude in the restaurant on site and we ended up deciding to take a cab into Playa del Carmen to drink tequila and do karaoke. Turned out fine and we had a great time, but I didn’t know this dude from Adam; the beans weren’t the only thing that could have ended up refried (no, I didn’t get my groove back…he went to his room when we got back and I went to mine…).

Part 2 – I did a bunch of other really REALLY stupid things with no real regard to my safety the whole trip, I must have decided that I didn’t love life or something. But on the last morning, I got up, put on a white bikini and heels and walked a mile to the marina. I don’t even know how I made it without getting snatched. I met an older Mexican dude there who treated me to coffee for my birthday and bought me a little necklace. We walked on the beach for an hour and he showed me some beautiful out of the way places with gorgeous water. He also took me to a house his friend owned and showed me around. It was empty and anything could have happened, but I was 25 and grown and I was going to see that house… Dumb as he11.

Needless to say, I’m still living. And I got some great pictures, an even better hangover and the one of the best trips of my life!!
