Learn your lesson, then run away

Kanye West has a pretty interesting music video for his song Runaway. If you haven’t seen it yet, you may want to listen to the song first and then watch it. I believe there is a lot of symbolism in it but the song relates to a lot of what single people go through in dating.

One part of the song: “I always find something wrong” kind of hits home because this is classic commitment phobic thinking. You know how things can go really great and you get spooked by it and start to search for random things to justify you running away? That won’t stop happening until you catch yourself doing it. Hindsight is 20/20 but if you can find out that you are ruining a potentially great romance, you probably won’t regret taking a chance.

Of course, the song also refers to those jerks and scumbags that we should run away from (or stop acting like!) and this made me think about all my exes. Some of my worst relationships taught me the most. That’s kind of invaluable when you think about it!

What did you learn from your worst dating experience?

Do you have a problem of “always finding something wrong” in the people that you date? Do you recognize it before or after?

Blue – LOL! I laugh at my sister all the time about that but it drives me crazy too b/c she always wants me to help her carry all her plates.

I dont mind my food touching HOWEVER I will admit I dont like wet bread (roll, cornbread, etc). If my bread gets wet it goes in the trash

Depending on who’s cooking…some food has to be mixed together…to give it some taste.

@Kym – see, thats not right…lmao
@Mo – now i dont go so far as 5 different plates, but i will make sure that there is a gap between items, dont have a soggy bread problem cause usually dont bother with sauce, it doesnt like to stay where you put it, starts crossing borders and what not, cant have that….

oh speaking of OCD, we look at this house the other day that has an open floor plan, with just a little like 2 foot wall in the center of a large eat-in kitchen living room typ setup, one big square with this 2 foot wide wall in the middle, and the wall has a an arch in it, so you can see thru it. im like, ok, only got one large solid wall, and that would be where my couch goes, what about the entertaiment center (which is about 5 feet wide). mr.blue tells me put it on that tiny @ss wall in the middle of the room! i just stand there staring at him :| , and ask “have you ever MET me????” …wth?

@kimmie ~ I was on an interview at a law firm here in GA and crossed by legs at the ankles thinking this is what the southern women do. The interview took so long (first black secretary for them at that time), that by the time it was finished I had fidgeted with my ankles so much that my anklebracelet twisted itself onto the stocking of my other leg. Went to get up to shake his hand, and nearly fell face first. I recovered only after he came over and helped me. What a way to accept a job!

SCool – LOL!!! You are right and it depends on what’s mixing. But count me among those that don’t really like my food to touch either – I know, crazy!

Leggs – That’s wild about the interview! Reminds me of the time I was out on a date and we were leaving this restaraunt over by The Fox downtown. We were walking on the sidewalk and my heel got caught in one of those grates on the sidewalk. Here I am, just chatting away, thinking I look cute in my little black dress and heels and the next thing I’m going down face-first!! I could have crawled down in a hole! Luckily my date was a good sport!

LMBO Leggs. I had that happen to me once during a conference but it was that my foot had gone to sleep. I was sitting in a way that it was relaxed. I didn’t realize the feeling was gone from it until I untucked it and went to stand up. Quite embarrassing because there were execs from other companies there.

@Leggs – i thought i was bad with the clumsiness….there was the time we were walking thru Lenox mall, im wearing a pair of strappy wedge heels, and with nothing to trip on or slip in, my ankle twists as i step down and fall flat on my @ss. while im trying to get my wind back security dude whips over on his blasted Segway, little helmet on “you alright ma’am”…gimped to my car telling myself i cant ever come back here….

Leggs – Actually I’ve learned a lot as well. Gone are the years of doing something because it’s procedure to do, gone are the days of being in a team environment of say 200 folks and you exist,do your bit/drill and go home. This is straight accountability and they pull the same test or compliance training when something goes awry and said you blundered that? Thought you passed training. You gotta actually learn, know and understand what you’re doing every dang day up here…LOL
