Learn your lesson, then run away

Kanye West has a pretty interesting music video for his song Runaway. If you haven’t seen it yet, you may want to listen to the song first and then watch it. I believe there is a lot of symbolism in it but the song relates to a lot of what single people go through in dating.

One part of the song: “I always find something wrong” kind of hits home because this is classic commitment phobic thinking. You know how things can go really great and you get spooked by it and start to search for random things to justify you running away? That won’t stop happening until you catch yourself doing it. Hindsight is 20/20 but if you can find out that you are ruining a potentially great romance, you probably won’t regret taking a chance.

Of course, the song also refers to those jerks and scumbags that we should run away from (or stop acting like!) and this made me think about all my exes. Some of my worst relationships taught me the most. That’s kind of invaluable when you think about it!

What did you learn from your worst dating experience?

Do you have a problem of “always finding something wrong” in the people that you date? Do you recognize it before or after?

@i am ~ LOL no darling, I didn’t look like that. Never wore a curl.

@Raqi ~ I think the entire way it’s being done is rude! I agree, you shouldn’t be asked to provide the two hardest things on the list. Heck, they using your horse and your flatware, you have to decorate, etc. And, why the conniving Berta Butt sisters have to lie about your hubby agreeing to all of this!

Sidebar ~ any of you even know who Berta Butt is???

Man oh man….I have had enough bad experiences with men to last 2 lifetimes. I used to be the first to run away if I had to give you the side eye once. But after hearing everyone say how mean I was, I decided to ease up. Yeah that bit my in the azz! So now I am back to bolting. Will it cost me a possible good thing….maybe. But at least I will be nobody’s fool! I have had that just happen to me recently….and he is probably a decent guy. But oh well….that’s the way the cookie crumbles. I always say if it walks like duck and quacks like a duck…damnit…it’s a friggin’ duck! Don’t make excuses for it. I refuse to be one of these stupid chicks who chase a dude for years trying to make him “do right” (newsflash…you can’t do that. He has to want to do it. You will not be the special one who “changes” him). I don’t want to wake up as a middle aged woman and wanting to kick my own azz because I wasted years of my life that I will never have back, trying to catch what never wanted to be caught in the first place!

I’ve had somebody point out things to me before that I didn’t even realize I was doing

That’s me when it comes to sitting with my legs crossed and letting my shoe dangle if I am wearing heels. I didn’t realize I did it until it was pointed out to me.

I also, when wearing my glasses or sunglasses, when in deep thought or just waiting for some reason will use the temple (the side that goes over your ear) of my glasses to trace my lips. When not wearing my glasses I will use my “bird” finger. I also didn’t realize I did that until someone pointed it out to me.

I had a habit of touching my nose or my ear when I was talking…I was told that it was a sign of lying. I don’t agree with that. However, I am more aware of when I’m doing it now.

What really hate are people the smack when they eat. I don’t care what it is the smack. How the heck can you not hear yourself? I used to work with a guy that was nerve wrecking. He would come stand in my office to talk about something (or nothing) and would be eating crackers, chips, or whatever and would be smacking a way. I used to wonder why his wife doesn’t tell him to chew with this mouth closed so not to be so loud.

The only coworker that annoyed me more than him was the one that would let random particles of food drop from his mouth while eating and talking.

When we had company wide breakfasts and lunch I would make sure those two sat far away from me.

@Raqi ~ my mother smacks and she was the manager of a baseball team who made it to Puerto Rico. There was a dinner afterwards and I asked her to please “do not smack your food at dinner.” She laughed and said she would work on it. Not an easy thing to tell your mother, but it grated my nerves and I didn’t want her to embarrass herself. Sure her team members probably have heard her, but I wanted her to realize that people are listening to her! UUUGGGHHHH!!!

@blue yep..Ben had three different wives. One fancy blue blood, (Adam’s mom) one kind of I guess regular everyday woman(Hoss’s mom) and one French Quarter Creole woman(Little Joe’s mom)

I think old school tv was a bit more covert in their storytelling

The one thing I do that grates my husband’s nerves is I cut my food up in very small pieces. He always says that he is halfway finished by the time I am done cutting everything on my plate up. And on top of that he says I eat too slow.

For me it’s easier to chew in smaller pieces.

He’ll cut a 2”x 1” piece of steak and shove it in his mouth and it’s gone in 5 bites. I on the other hand prefer first dealing with smaller pieces and chewing longer.

Everybody envious of the Cartwrights and all the boys were fighters too…….it was hard to choose a favorite little Joe, big Hoss, and Adam all kikced ass but if I had choose it would Adam the level headed one.

Raqi – I did this in an interview once! My shoe fell off in the middle of the interview. That cured me of that. Luckily I knew I was not going to get the job before it happened and didn’t really want it anyway. But I still pride myself on being more professional than that. Lesson definitely learned!

He also hates the way I and I will have to say many other eat a baked potato. He very seldom eats baked potatoes when we go out because he likes to eat the whole potato skin and all. At home he knows I scrub the skin before baking so he tear into it. But I don’t eat the skin even when I know I washed it well.

He doesn’t get the reasoning of eating the potato out of the skin.

Raqi – It drives me nuts that my sister eats her food in sections and hates for her food to touch. So at a cookout she can have like 5 plates or if she has one plate, she turns it as she finishes each item. Now she has Lil Mo doing the same thing and I want to scream!
