Do single men feel pressure to marry?

I was lamenting with a friend of mine about no longer being eligible to donate my eggs to infertile couples.   For some random reason this bummed me out!  Normal single women have biological clocks that inch them towards marriage.  Yours truly? I want to cling to the option of donating eggs. I know, I’ve always been a little strange, but I digress.

My friend consoled me by saying I may not be the perfect candidate to donate eggs but I would still make a great wife.  He said that as a man, even with the option to have children at a later age, he has felt pressure to become a husband.

Awesome compliment aside (thanks Greg!),  what he said me wonder about pressure single men have about relationships and  marriage.   Is it the same kind of pressure society places on women (and our ovaries!) and how do men handle it?

When men see their friends and peers getting married, do they get the feeling as if they are being left behind?

Ladies, do you think that a man past a certain age that has remain unmarried is still marriage material?

DK – Suppose there is little or no “engagement” or “layaway” time?

I agree, it is nice when you can start fresh with someone, but life just doesn’t always work out like that sometimes.

Its just natural tendancies for someone to say this is my house when theyre mad..

Okay so what? You deal with that dumbass statement as you would any other dumbass statement your partner will make over the course of your lifetime.

And newsflash, homes aren’t selling so easy these days.

Melo – Not complicating things at all, just putting out something else that could come up that would have to be considered. Everything is not always black and white. Didn’t say Big Daddy wouldn’t be part of the equation either. But in the case I cited, the kids bio Dad lived in another state.

I agree with you Simple, I love being an Auntie. I have enough thru blood and love to have a football team. I love every minute of it, esp when the parents get told, “I’m calling Autie”. As far as having any of my own is up to the universe. I will not be defined by having or not having children.

I have them ranging from 2 weeks old to 26 years old right now. My advise goes along way with them. One of the 3 year old’s is off the hook though. He tells his mom everytime she cures in Spanish, he says in French he is calling me. It boils her blood. Laughing just thinking about it. My favorite aunt just passed at a young 45YO, I think about how much of an influence and sound ear she was to me. I hope I’m giving that to my neices and nephews.

Kimmie – Whats the rush?? Why people gotta run to the alter??? I think the engagement process is vital.. It gives you time to get your single affairs in order.

ARED – You avoid issues when you can.. So if you stick you hand on the stove and burn youself.. I guess you can deal with it after you get to the hospital.. Theres no need to get 3rd degree burns if you dont have to.. Its like clearing up as much debt as you can before getting married.. Why go into the relationship with a ton of debt.. Because as we all know finances cause divorces.. And overtime something as small as this is my house festers into something bigger.. Something as small as he always leaves the seat up on the toilet can lead to something bigger.. Babe you gotta get married first to realize things change when the names go on the paper.. If it were that easy Im sure the divorce rate wouldnt be over 50%..

My point is that that argument is not a guarantee. You’re worried about something that could never happen all for the sake of your EGO. No more, no less.

It gives you time to get your single affairs in order.

Infamous, which affairs would that be? Mental? Financial?

If two people are even at the stage of him asking and her accepting I would think those affairs that can be worked out would already be. Mentally both should be marriage minded before asking and accepting. Financially, well outside of merging households those affairs are something that probably can be dealt with after the nuptials.

DK – I really was referring to a blog topic about a month or so ago, about long engagements! I was just tripping really, because I don’t see the harm in an engagement period, especially if you are planning a wedding and bringing two households together. But alot came back with criticism of that, saying it was like putting someone on layaway, with no real intention of marrying them. Or that they really were not ready to marry them, but them wanted to put the person on lock until they got ready.

You know how stuff gets twisted on here!
