Do single men feel pressure to marry?

I was lamenting with a friend of mine about no longer being eligible to donate my eggs to infertile couples.   For some random reason this bummed me out!  Normal single women have biological clocks that inch them towards marriage.  Yours truly? I want to cling to the option of donating eggs. I know, I’ve always been a little strange, but I digress.

My friend consoled me by saying I may not be the perfect candidate to donate eggs but I would still make a great wife.  He said that as a man, even with the option to have children at a later age, he has felt pressure to become a husband.

Awesome compliment aside (thanks Greg!),  what he said me wonder about pressure single men have about relationships and  marriage.   Is it the same kind of pressure society places on women (and our ovaries!) and how do men handle it?

When men see their friends and peers getting married, do they get the feeling as if they are being left behind?

Ladies, do you think that a man past a certain age that has remain unmarried is still marriage material?

I dint think the McMansions are dying!

Only the financially able will buy them this time around.

Not the posers who bought them in the last round but lived on noodles and slept in there on the floors and sometimes with no furnishings to complement.

The era of easy money and no money down is gone

Well I love my home..it has plenty of space for me and the boy.. we had to give our dog away..(she apparently likes the taste of drywall) and since we lived in close quarters before..this works. plus I like having family and friends over..and I wanted a place for all to come and relax.

@kimmie – I dated a dude that wanted to live waaaayyyyy out in the woods, near this farmland he owned…Like a serial killer – whoa…yeah, i need to be somewhere that folks will notice i havent left the house in a month….
@PR – I think another reason families have problems is because everyone wants to move into a bigger house. You work all day then come home and have all of that space to be seprated – yeah, i agree with you there…between the space and tech-toys around the house, your all in the same house and have no interaction….on that note, for family day this past Saturday, traded the video gaes and kid movies for an old fashioned, low tech, game of Spoons, followed by Scrabble Slam and Jenga – tv OFF, lol. kids were confused by the no-tech aspect, but had a ball anyway!

The size of a house does not determine whether it’s cozy, it’s person or people living in it.

He has to deal with your mamma I think the moving to another home is an even exchange.

He doesn’t have to deal with anyone but me. My parents are very hands off. They raised us, now roll with those lessons. They don’t meddle unless asked. Love it. :D

If men feel pressure it won’t be from me!

While there are marriages that work there are plenty that don’t work…lots of people get married for the wrong reasons.
Some get the best out of a marriage and or relationship which is their kids.

Before being married I felt the need to get married. I thought it was the right thing to do. The natural progression. Marrige, Kids, Retirement, Travel, Blah Balh blah. Now after having been married. I dont think its necessary. Honestly I felt trapped when I got married. I felt like a part of me had died.. Dont get me wrong I loved my Ex and I wanted to marry her more than anything but I felt like my free spirited self had gone away as I became the family man. Now its not that I wanted to be out there chasing skirts or jumping every babe I met, it was more of the alone time I loved while being single is what I missed. I missed going to the fortress of solitude and shutting the world out if I wanted to.. I missed not being able to jump a flight and go anywhere I wanted without the obligatory explanation of why I wanted to be alone. I know it sounds incredibly selfish but I like being free to do whatever I want when I want.. Now I cant be that free because I have a son but it shows on my face now.. Im not the caged animal I used to be in the marriage. I have long came tot he conclusion that I dont want to be married I would do much better with a companion, so her and I can keep our relationship fresh and when she doesnt wanna see me I can go home and likewise. And no I dont want a whole bunch of different girlfriends.. I just want to be in a committed with one nice lady to grow old with.. And dont worry if anything happens to me… The will will take care of everything.. And her..

The only part of the house that did not change we she moved here was the garage. There are all sorts of plants and stuff hanging on the patio, brighter colors in living room and kitchen. Appliances that I do not know how to use. I am a grown man and do not know how to use the electric can opener. Whatever you call those scarfs you put on tables(every table has one of those on it…just for decoration) Plants all over the place, I just told her to stay out of the garage. The one thing that I do love is that she made the bathrooms all have themes and in the main hallway she has overloaded with pictures on both sides from both of our families. I just stand there and look at them tons. :)

“I don’t see how a 6 bedroom house can be cozy for two people.”

Well, we have 5 finished bedrooms at the moment (with a 6th stubbed out, but unfinished in the basement) for 2 of us & it’s full:

→ master (1)

→ bedroom on main, used as office for now (2)

→ 2 upstairs bedrooms commandeered by Mrs. Swiss for the extra closet and bathroom accessory space (3 & 4)

leaving…

→ 1 guest bedroom upstairs (5)…

It’s not about stating the obvious per se, but once a woman knows she’s pregnant, she has more options than the man(from that point on). So if she’s popping out kid after kid, it’s really more on her.

kimmie — We have a 3 car garage & the entire area above that garage is the master closets. It’s split right down the middle — one side is Mrs. Swiss’s closet, the other is 1/2 my closet, 1/2 exercise room. And Mrs. Swiss still had to take over a 2nd walk-in closet in another bedroom for “work” clothes and a 3rd closet for assorted other clothes. You are not alone…

Youre a sucker if you move into your girls home.. Stack Ya chips and present her with the option to move into a bigger one.. Sell the two and buy one.. BUT.. Dont move until one sells and if push come to shove rent the other ad alwyas make sure you can afford the other one until it sells.. If that means you gotta roll a bucket for minute.. The so be it.. But dont move into a babes home.. Its the quickest way to get chumped off..

Swiss what is your guilty pleasure when your wife is not home? Mine used to be drinking out of the bottle but one day while I am sitting down she just walks in drinks out of the bottle and puts it back in the ice box. I guess it’s just us two here and we hardly ever have company. So now it’s just taking a squat and leaving the door open and sleeping with the tv on all night. Oh yeah if she is not here on the weekend I will go all day saturday without showering or doing my hair and just stay in my underwear. LOL

Swiss – Those hoarding shows have really been disturbing me. So much so that I made a mid-year resolution to “simplify” my home and get rid of a lot of the stuff I’m holding onto.

I haven’t made the time to really go thru everything, but alot of the stuff just sitting in front of my face that I was trying to MAKE room for, I parted with. I’m trying to develop the discipline, however, to not go BUY things in place of the stuff I’ve let go. So far, I’m doing quite well, I must say. :)

What kind of chicks are you dudes dealing with. Seriously?

Or better yet, wha kind of chicks have you DEALT with for the level of trust to be so low that you couldn’t deal with this by a chick you MARRIED. This is no random broad, it’s your wife.

Really.
