I was lamenting with a friend of mine about no longer being eligible to donate my eggs to infertile couples. For some random reason this bummed me out! Normal single women have biological clocks that inch them towards marriage. Yours truly? I want to cling to the option of donating eggs. I know, I’ve always been a little strange, but I digress.
My friend consoled me by saying I may not be the perfect candidate to donate eggs but I would still make a great wife. He said that as a man, even with the option to have children at a later age, he has felt pressure to become a husband.
Awesome compliment aside (thanks Greg!), what he said me wonder about pressure single men have about relationships and marriage. Is it the same kind of pressure society places on women (and our ovaries!) and how do men handle it?
When men see their friends and peers getting married, do they get the feeling as if they are being left behind?
Ladies, do you think that a man past a certain age that has remain unmarried is still marriage material?

Infamous I truly think that if a person is going to play the “it’s my house” cards there is a character flaw already embedded there. You best believe a person that would make that statement will be harping on something else if pre-homeownership was not even the case.
Just like the ones that bark at the spouses about who makes the most money. If it’s part of their character it is going to rear it’s ugly head in some way.

ARED – Im just saying.. Marriage is hard enough so before you go in, try to eliminate as many obstacles you can. Im telling you. I had all the answers before I got married and you couldnt tell me I would be divorced. It wasnt any problem we wasnt going to be able to work out.. Lo and behold.. Life has a way of showing you things you didnt know..

If two people are even at the stage of him asking and her accepting I would think those affairs that can be worked out would already be. Mentally both should be marriage minded before asking and accepting. Financially, well outside of merging households those affairs are something that probably can be dealt with after the nuptials
Thank you Raqi – Now I may not have ever been married, but I know too many friends that are knocking on TONS on debt in student loans alone (even $100,000). They’d be old men and women before all their affairs are in order. You deal. You stay in the house you have. You don’t throw it in the other party’s face. *shrugs*

Raqi – Agree with your 3:32 totally! Amen! There is a character flaw in there somewhere, and guess what? That flaw more likely than not reared it’s ugly head before yall jumped the broom! You just chose to overlook it. Cause folks just don’t blurt out of the blue “it’s my house” all out-of-character all the time. They’ve said some equally shytty stuff before, so you should not be surprised. But yet, you still chose to marry them, so deal with it.

Raqi – Everyone doesnt have the perfect marriage you have.. You know how relationships can go bad “Scorned” and things happen that you never thought would. Nor would you ever allow them to happen again.. For instance.. The next chick that I love is gonna have a good man cause Ive learned from my mistakes.

Amazon, some people that want to are truly never going to get married hanging on to the “I need to work this out first” mindset ‘cause if it’s not one thing it will be another.
Hell I think some folks are better off getting married and working things out together. Working and building together can actually create greater bonds than not for some. And actually being willing to accept someone into your life who still carries a bit of a “something” speaks to the level of love and commitment you have for them.
But I will say this is all stuff that should be discussed before getting married. Even one does have a loan or what not and they don’t seem to be even trying to work on it, you probably should be asking some questions to them and yourself.

Raqi – I agree. If you take all the hard stuff out up front, what’s to work on? Besides, I’m over diggin myself out of life holes solo.
My parents have been through a lot in their 33 years of marriage, but I like how they worked on it together all these years.
I used to state I’d rather not date a man whose “established” cuz I wanted to look back on our golden years and marvel on how we built our kingdom TOGETHER.
I’m kinda over that now.

Infamous, my marriage is not perfect not even the least bit. We both have our “bads” but we are both trying our best to do this thing for the longterm.
We disagree just like the next couple but we didn’t see the reason to put our life together on-hold just for something we have before and are now working out together.

Ared: You finally got your wish. Simple is really working. I think he bout to cry if house, compliments and begging doesn’t work. And I’m not talking about that snubbing ish chicks do when they found out that DeCraig stole their bank card and they are about to turn off your water and you on your cycle. I’m talking about that 5y.o crying complete with snot and that one long azz slob that refuses to break crying while sing Lenny Williams backwards.
