I agree with 2C online dating can work great..haven’t tried in a while though I still get matches from eharmony..but I have met some really great guys that eventhough we didn’t work out to happily ever after. They are really cool dudes to talk to and check in on from time to time. As for questions to ask..well that varies depending on how the exchange goes.

@2C you know you gonna make some Bishop followers mad..but I will say this he better come with his checkbook or some serious legal representation..cause the young men suing him went and got BJ Bernstein. She was Gernarlow Wilson(sp) attorney..she doesn’t strike me as the type of attorney to take a bootleg case. The only real differences between online dating & trying to meet people the old-fashioned way(s) are:

1) Queuing up “prospects” is much more time efficient w/ online dating

2) There are some folks out there who will try to conceal their true appearance in their online profile pics. (Never understood this… What do these people think is gonna happen when their date sees them in person?)

Otherwise, it’s all the same. There are psychos, there are players, there are real folk. For best results, just be real.

On topic – I know quite a few people that have met online and gotten married. It’s just another way to meet people and since everyone is online now, it’s something that was bound to happen. Melo I missed the cnn report last night, I was out but I started getting text messages on my phone. I received as many text messages about EL as I did when MJ died. So I started reading then, and catching up. Yeah, it is my understanding that the PSH was like a BD gift that went along with the trip. The complaint names several Elders and advisors that allegedly knew what was going on. I do not listen to v103, but I hear frank ski played a lot of gospel music this morning. I have never really done alot of online dating; but I hear the most success from match.com. The key is any site where you have to pay only attracts serious people.

I think social media is alot different from online dating. Its funny how a few years ago, you could easily meet someone off blackplanet and myspace without the stigma; but facebook is totally different. You are friends with people you never met or really see and they frown somewhat on meeting and potentially dating.

One little bar I hang at has gotten more gay and it doesn’t bother me because still a lot of fine ladies there and hell it is in midtown but I had to talk to one of the dudes we hang with when there (regular) because this dude was out of control with the gay bashing one night like he was on a mission. I had to tell him he was blowing my high and ask why in the hell you care so much about them when that means we got more of the ladies to ourselves. Luvbug he dated/slept with a close friend of mine and continues to support her if she needs help. He met her on his show when they were discussing autism some years ago. If/whenever she flies into town he makes sure it’s first class…she’s been to his house and described it to me BEFORE pics were ever made public. He’s a walking contradiction….and I think of it whenever he gets on his soapbox.

Have been doing the online dating thing for almost 3 years now. One serious (1-year) relationship that ended last year. Lots of interesting characters including a guy I swear was mafia (he drove a ferrari and a rolls), guys who are looking for a one night stand (sorry, not me), guys looking for a sugar momma (once again, sorry, not me) and tons of much younger guys looking for a cougar (strike 3….sorry again). But it has been a heck of a journey for this almost 50-year old woman. I’ll keep looking, but my hopes for finding Mr. Right online are dimming.

Melo per your 12:44 I agree. When I was in high school I witnessed a wife and other woman get into a fist fight…IN CHURCH on COMMUNION Sunday. I’ve also known of adultery and thievery in the same church and for a while was jaded against it/church. Then I came to Atl and saw the “mega” churches and like it…..at first. Then I realized that the same small town problems exist here in the mega churches as well.

Beware of online love. Yes, yes, it’s true, I speak from experience. As long as we were simply writing back and forth all was well. Alas, then we decided to meet for dinner at a local restuarant. Although the lady was nice and personable, she looked nothing like the pictures she had sent me. She was much, much older and admitted the pictures were her granddaughter when I confronted her. Thankfully she left our planned first meeting dinner early. Said the meal had given her gas and she needed to go home and “Git a dose of sodie”. Ironically, she and my mother have become good friends and go gambling together at Cherokee. Turns out they went to highschool together. I’m returning to my old standbys- bars and churches.

I should have guessed that y’all are on the newest church scandal.

All I’m gonna say is that I’ve heard rumors for years (at least since 2002). I have an friend that has shouted for years that he was approached by EL. However, nothing went beyond that.

You can say rumors are just rumors, but a third lawsuit was filed against him today. EL better hope that this does not turn into an Earl Paulk like situation.

This just another case that folks should follow the Word and not a man.

@Mo- Lol. I started going to another church a couple years ago because it had that down to earth feeling. I could find a parking space IN FRONT OF THE CHURCH and the pastor was a good ol boy from Alabama and he seemed to be against mega churches. That lasted about a good 8 months and the next thing you know we getting bombarded with extra offerings and such because he now out the blue GAWD told him to go big. So all of a sudden he needed a dome too and I did pledge about $200 but went out of town for a month when I got back do you know that fool sent me what felt like a collection letter. I was like WTF. Back to worshipping in the living room.

How did you forget Creflo Dollar and World Changers?

My church isn’t small but it isn’t the size of those two either. Antioch Baptist North is where I am a member, but I don’t go as often as I should. I worry that some members worship our pastor as well. He is not a fan Eddie Long or Creflo Dollar. Rev. Alexander often refers to EL as the man who preaches in muscles shirts.

There are a number of megachurces. Ebeneezer isn’t exactly a small church either. Especially since they have moved across the street from the historical church building.

@PoppaG ~ I almost typed not Creflo Dollars…I know it’s not World Changes. When I went to New Birth (now wondering if I in fact was there), the lobby was painted a kind of lavender and the ATM machine was in one of the nooks in the corner. The lobby area was hugh and very pretty. I don’t remember it looking church like though, I remember the ATM and the colored walls.

I went to Elizabeth Baptist once and notice the timer on wall. Pastor Oliver has to have his sermon done within that time frame. I guess that it is done for television, but it was different.

I think after this most people will have a relook at attending mega churches.

There are there for the money rat race and big egos!
Eddie earned 1$mil in 1999. Wonder what he earns now?

I bet that Poppa pastor is proly envious too, why call another man of god like that?

I will say that I joined Antioch for what it is doing, not for the pastor.

The church bought an old hotel downtown and houses the homeless.

The church owns a house for battered women and children.

The church has its own substance abuse program. Helps to find people homes and jobs.

So, that is what I like to support. We have to support ourselves before asking for government to help us.

As for the pastor, he has been there since 1969. So, I am sure that he get paid nicely.

He just thinks that EL forsakes his congregation for his own popularity.

As for Creflo Dollar, Rev. Alexander just isn’t a fan of prosperity gospel, and think that he’s leading his congregation astray.

Poppa – My late godmother was a member of Antioch. The only time I went there, other than when she kept me when I was a baby and when I was 6 and flowergirl at her daughter’s wedding, was at her funeral in 1995. I remember it being very nice though. I like to here about churchs doing good in their surrounding community, like mine does. That’s what God’s work is all about.

@Dig That I had a similar experience small time pastor wanted to step up to the big plate. He first asked for each family to give one whole paycheck. Well people like me started asking questions on the fairness of that approach. Some people are paid once a week, once a month, every other week, the 1st and 15th etc. So he came back and asked for each family to pledge 1K. Long story short, he did not build anything or move anywhere. When people started asking for updates he tied it into his sermon and said you can come up now if you wanted to take your money back from the Kingdom. I was hoping someone would step forward. I didn’t give so I could not go up there, but I would have if I had given the money.

@PoppaG I know the Rev Bradshaw has been down the aisle a time or two…and I do believe Deacon Sharpe had some legal troubles..but you know at least they put they stuff out there and just let the chips fall where they may. Plus the service is always quite entertaining.

@luvbug he had his Bible, a sweat rag I meant towel and he turned red screaming like he was going mad. I am real silly so it was funny to me, but no I didn’t see a checkbook and he knew no one was going to step forward. I would have stepped forward if I would have given 1K and nothing happened. I still visit that church from time to time…that was over 4 or 5 years ago and nada to this day.

@Dig you are right str8 foolishness. I truly enjoy service and worshipping, but I can tell when something is wrong and I giggle and ask a few questions. My mom still makes me sit next to her when we go to church together…she doesn’t want me smirking when foolishness happens.
