How much support do men need?

If you have ever watched HBO’s Entourage, you are familiar with the character, Ari Gold, played by Jeremy Piven.  Ari Gold is a foul-mouthed, raging jerk with a temper that makes you wonder how he has managed to get through the day without a black eye.  Since he is a Hollywood agent, this behavior manages to work for him in business.

In a recent episode, Ari’s wife walked out on him after his trademark public tirades embarrasses her.  Apparently he felt abandoned by his own wife.  She tells him that she refuses to sit by when her husband is acting like a classless idiot.  He says that is the exact moment when a wife should be supportive. (Paraphrasing)

I know loyalty and support is pretty high on a man’s mental list of what he needs from a woman.  When a man does not feel supported he is less likely to trust his partner to be there when he needs him.

So what happens when a man is dead wrong but still wants to be supported? How should a woman handle it? Does she keep her opinions to herself and offer him support and comfort?

How much support should a woman be willing to offer and provide when she does not agree with what he is doing or how he is handling it?

Is it fair to ask for the same loyalty and support from men that they need and want?

Guys, have you ever dated a woman who wasn’t accepting and supportive? Did you let her know that is what you thought about her?

Ladies, do you think women have a hard time supporting men in relationships? What have you learned about being supportive in a relationship? How did your mothers handle it?

Blog start was April 2004.

Toucan, you are one of the few that was banned. Rell was banned recently – not sure if it’s still in effect.
There was one other person that I can confirm was banned and that was the dude that was stalking the chick up at Carrington’s job.

@Leggs – I caught a 13 year old girl climbing into my sons bedroom window. He was 16! I let her get all the way in – he was helping mind you – then turned on the lights and called her parents to come get her. The girls are boldly FAST. Keep doing what you’re doing with Lil Leggs. Us parents of boys really appreciate it.

SexyCool – Why was he banned recently? He was pretty tame recently, for him. Did he buck up on WiseDiva or something?

@Leggs?!

My 16 year old can sneak all she want, not agreeing to dating. She can date her SAT tutorials and school.

I have put her on a punishing SAT schedule for Saturday and Sunday.

If she’s horny enough to come outa it wanting a date more power to her !
Told her if she don’t make it to college, she out of my house and I mean it.

@DreamsM ~ I realize some of the lil girls are fast learners too, but I don’t see mine like that (LOL). No, we all don’t say that cuz some of the mommies out there know their daughter is fast and furious to go.

Suffice it to say, all of them are young, ready to explore, and clueless…

I was 13 when I first dipped my pen in some ink.

We were both very busy, but found time to get that in. One day football practice ended early and her dance team (I think that they were called the drill team back then) had an early ending practice too. We just didn’t call our parents until we were ready.

So, we were fast back then, too.

I can see Leggs having a talk with Lil Leggs like Claire Huxtable did when Vanessa and friends went all the way the Balitmore for a concert when Claire thought that the girls were going to party in town.

She did the “answer me when I ask you a question!” and when Vanessa tried to answer Claire to Vanessa to “Shut Up!” . I only had one of those instances in my life and it was not fun at all.

But slapping the skin off…..I don’t see that from Leggs. I don’t see her going quite that far.

For me, the “i am disappointed in you” speech was more effective, than the physical stuff. The physical pain usually wore off pretty soon, but the disappointment stuff stuck with me for later decisions.

@Leggs? Way to go on that.

Now if they want to break it off when they get to college like Ared did, that’s good company to be in.

PG – that was my favorite all time episode of The Cosby Show.

Claire kept saying to Vanessa, “Oh but you wanted to go and have Big Fun.”

To this day, that is how I describe it when I’ve had a GREAT time or expect to have a GREAT time doing something. That I’ve had Big Fun. Or that we are “Going off to have Big Fun.”

And I always think about Claire and Vanessa and I always giggle just a little when I say it.

But he does everything possible so I won’t be disappointed in him.

@PoppaG ~ I remember that episode. When she said SHUT UP, I cracked up.

I’m stern and mean to a certain point. Ok, perhaps I won’t slap the skin off, but I would want to. I look at it as disrespecting yourself climbing into a boys room AT ANY AGE!

PG – That Cosby show episode when Vanessa went allllll the way to Baltimore really proved that my mother was Claire Huxtable. When she got right up in Vanessa’s face and screamed “GO TO BED!” I felt that. That was my mom too.

Well, when a woman is wrong I let her know, I don’t believe in smacks on wrist. When I’m wrong I don’t get smacks on the wrist, so there is your Equality for you.

A Fact

“How much support should a woman be willing to offer and provide when she does not agree with what he is doing or how he is handling it?”

Isn’t this pretty much all the time? Practically speaking, women tend to disagree with their spouses often. If they acted against it all the time then things just wouldn’t work. Assuming a woman picked and chose when to disagree, it should be done behind closed doors.
